Former England star Gascoigne released from hospital

The 58-year-old, who lives in Poole, on England's south coast, was admitted to intensive care on Friday after being found semi-conscious by a friend.
However, his management company has confirmed he has now been discharged.
"Paul voluntarily went into A&E (Accident and Emergency) on Friday after struggling with a throat condition (not by ambulance) he has had for a while," said a statement from the MNT Agency. "He is already back home and doing well."
Gascoigne, who won 57 caps for his country, was discovered by Steve Foster, who works as his driver and personal assistant.
He was treated by intensive care staff and later moved to an acute medical unit, where his condition was said to be stable, and he has since been released.
One of the most naturally gifted footballers of his generation, Gascoigne played for Newcastle, Tottenham, Lazio, Rangers, Middlesbrough and Everton.
He became a global star after his eye-catching performances at the 1990 World Cup in Italy, where England reached the semi-finals, and he also impressed at Euro 96.
The midfielder's issues with alcohol addiction and depression are well-documented and he has suffered a series of health problems in recent years.
In 2020, Gascoigne said he had turned his life around after having anti-alcohol pellets sewn into his stomach.
But last year, he admitted on the High Performance podcast that he was a "sad drunk" living in a spare room at the home of his agent.

Wallabies wing Potter rubbishes 'ridiculous' losing mentality jibe

England's World Cup-winning coach Clive Woodward slammed the home side after captain Harry Wilson kicked the ball dead after the hooter to end the first Test in Brisbane, rather than try to score when 27-19 down. "Talk about a losing mentality," said Woodward. "For me, it is the last play of the game so why not have a mentality to try and score as this could be the situation in seven days' time, only closer?" he wrote in a British newspaper column. "Why would any player, especially the captain, want to end the game?" Potter blasted Woodward's claim as unwarranted. "It's pretty ridiculous to suggest that the 23 people who played on the weekend have a mentality of losing," he said at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, which will host the second Test on Saturday. "We went out there to win the game, and we didn't win the game. But it was our intention very much and you could tell from every player in the team we wanted to win that game." Potter said coach Joe Schmidt and the side learned plenty of lessons which they will take into Saturday's showdown in front of an expected crowd of 90,000. "It's been tough looking back at that game, certainly learnt a fair bit," he said. "It felt like we didn't put our best foot forward, particularly the first 50-60 minutes. "Lot of lessons to take out of that one. They're an incredibly strong team, but we know that we've just got to come out better and start the game stronger. "And I suppose there were some positive signs towards the end of the game where we felt like if we string enough things together, then we can go a lot better than we did," he added. The Wallabies need to win on Saturday to keep the three-Test series alive and Potter said there was no lack of determination within the squad. "Emotionally it's very simple this week and we all know the task at hand, so I don't think anyone's got any questions about what's at stake," he said. The third and final Test is in Sydney on August 2.

'A bit surreal' - England coach Wiegman hails reaching Euro 2025 final

"I have many emotions again. I feel relief, I feel happy -- it feels a bit surreal but we are here and we are going to the final," Wiegman said following the 2-1 win in Geneva, secured thanks to a Chloe Kelly goal in the 119th minute. Italy were seconds away from a shock victory over the defending champions and a place in the final as they led deep into injury time thanks to Barbara Bonansea's 33rd-minute goal. But substitute Michelle Agyemang equalised for England in the sixth minute of stoppage time to force the extra period, before Kelly -- who had also come off the bench -- followed in to score the deciding goal after her penalty had been saved, just as another shoot-out loomed. "It does feel like a movie. When it finishes like that I am enjoying it but it was a little bit dramatic," smiled Wiegman. Her team had already produced a stunning comeback against Sweden in the quarter-finals, when they trailed 2-0 before two goals by Lucy Bronze and Agyemang in the space of three minutes late on forced extra time and they eventually advanced on penalties. "We know with the players we have in the squad that we can always score more because we have shown that multiple times," Wiegman added. "At the end we did it and then we got extra time, and then we got the penalty. We were a bit lucky to score it in the second stage but we are through." Three in a row England, who saw winger Lauren James come off at half-time with an ankle injury, will now go to Basel for the final on Sunday against either Spain or Germany -- they meet in their last-four clash on Wednesday. It will be a third consecutive major tournament final for the Lionesses, who beat Germany in extra time in the Euro 2022 final at Wembley and then lost to Spain in the deciding game at the following year's World Cup in Sydney. "That is what happens when a great team comes together and makes things happen -- three consecutive finals playing under an unbelievable manager in Sarina," said Kelly, the Arsenal forward who got the winner in the 2022 Euro final. "It is incredible to be part of this special team. I am so proud." She added: "I can't believe what has just happened. The belief in the squad, the resilience and the togetherness in this group is just so special." Meanwhile, Italy coach Andrea Soncin said he was proud of his team despite the agony of seeing the Azzurre fall just short of reaching a first final since the 1997 Euros. "It hurts but we are very proud for all that we have done," said Soncin, who took charge of the team in 2023 and is now eyeing the 2027 World Cup. "The fact we were just a minute away from the final can be encouraging for us. "We will need a few days to get over this bitter moment but we will keep growing, and our future goal is to go to the World Cup in Brazil so we are already looking forward."
