Former England star Gascoigne released from hospital

The 58-year-old, who lives in Poole, on England's south coast, was admitted to intensive care on Friday after being found semi-conscious by a friend. However, his management company has confirmed he has now been discharged. "Paul voluntarily went into A&E (Accident and Emergency) on Friday after struggling with a throat condition (not by ambulance) he has had for a while," said a statement from the MNT Agency. "He is already back home and doing well." Gascoigne, who won 57 caps for his country, was discovered by Steve Foster, who works as his driver and personal assistant. He was treated by intensive care staff and later moved to an acute medical unit, where his condition was said to be stable, and he has since been released. One of the most naturally gifted footballers of his generation, Gascoigne played for Newcastle, Tottenham, Lazio, Rangers, Middlesbrough and Everton. He became a global star after his eye-catching performances at the 1990 World Cup in Italy, where England reached the semi-finals, and he also impressed at Euro 96. The midfielder's issues with alcohol addiction and depression are well-documented and he has suffered a series of health problems in recent years. In 2020, Gascoigne said he had turned his life around after having anti-alcohol pellets sewn into his stomach. But last year, he admitted on the High Performance podcast that he was a "sad drunk" living in a spare room at the home of his agent.

Former Tottenham and England midfielder Paul Gascoigne is recovering at home after being released from hospital. Bellotti 'absolutely coming to spoil' Garner's party

Reece Bellotti says he is coming to "spoil the party" when he fights Ryan Garner in Bournemouth on Saturday. The 34-year-old British and Commonwealth super-featherweight champion will travel down to the south coast and compete for the chance to add Garner's blue and gold European strap to his collection. Bellotti has 20 wins and five defeats to his name but since moving up to the 130lbs super-featherweight division he has a perfect six out of six record, picking up his two titles along the way. "Both of our styles are very similar," he told BBC Sport."It's going to be nothing but a great fight in my opinion and I think everyone else agrees."But absolutely I'm coming to spot the party, I wouldn't be here for anything else."Bellotti will step into a packed Bournemouth International Centre where Garner cruised to a convincing unanimous decision win over Salvador Jimenez earlier this year. The build-up to their fight so far has been respectful between the two but "the Bomber", as Bellotti is known, has already had a taste of what the atmosphere could be like on fight night. The two faced off in Garner's hometown at Southampton's St Mary's Stadium, external a few months ago and Bellotti was on the end of some jeers and boos from fans of "the Piranha". "I've dealt with these kind of atmospheres already," Bellotti added."I've been on a few away days across Manchester and Liverpool before and I'm looking forward to the challenge."My mindset is that he [Garner] is the toughest opponent by a mile, others might look at someone like Ray Ford, who's a world champion, and say he is, but for me Garner is the top one and I've trained accordingly." New-found form since moving up in weight Last time out, Bellotti forced rival Michael Gomez Jr to retire after putting him down twice at the Co-op Live arena in Manchester. That contest was originally supposed to take place in October 2024 but was put back to February of this year after Gomez Jr was taken ill on the night and ruled out of the contest by doctors. In the rescheduled bout, despite being cut over the right eye in the sixth round, Bellotti inflicted enough damage to Gomez Jr that he retired in his corner in the 10th. Before his switch to super-featherweight, Bellotti, from Watford, was defeated five times at 125lbs, between 2018 and 2021. But since then he has flourished at his new weight, claiming the iconic Lonsdale belt in 2024 with a victory over Liam Dillon."I believe in myself and I believe I can beat Garner," Bellotti said."People can write me off if they want, they'll see what happens on fight night, I learnt loads from my defeats and I'm better for it now."Mentally and physically I feel the best I've felt in my career right now, experience is key in this and coming up to super featherweight has really helped me, I've become more adaptable and grown as a fighter."

Briton was trying to save friend when both died in Portugal, sister says

The sister of a man who drowned in Portugal has said he died while trying to save his best friend in the water. King Edonmi, 29, and Mo Liasu, 27, both from Ipswich, died less than 24 hours after arriving on holiday in Albufeira, on the south coast of Portugal. They are believed to have drowned in a hotel swimming pool on 15 July. In a statement online, King's sister Kemi Edonmi said: "My best friend is really gone. "Rest in peace to my big brother and his best friend Mo, we love you and will never forget you both." She also wrote that King "died trying to save his friend's life". She added that reports suggesting the two had been drinking were false, saying: "My brother and Mo do not drink and were not intoxicated at the time of the incident." A GoFundMe fundraiser for the repatriation of their bodies and to support their families has raised more than £24,500 as of 9pm on Friday - well above its £20,000 target. Organiser Angelo Antonio wrote that the two "were more than friends to us" and "were brothers to many," before adding: "They were warm, loyal, funny and full of dreams. "The sort of men you never hear a bad word about because there simply were none." Mr Antonio then said that the total cost of returning their bodies to the UK would be more than £10,000. He added: "Repatriation involves complex legal paperwork, international funeral care and transportation costs no family is ever prepared for, especially not under such heartbreaking circumstances." Read more on Sky News: A spokesperson for Portugal's criminal investigation police said the incident is not being treated as suspicious. "The inspection of the scene revealed no evidence of criminal activity," they added. "Witnesses to the events were interviewed, confirming the investigation's belief that it was an accident." A Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office spokesperson also said: "We are supporting the families of two British men who have died in Portugal and are in contact with the local authorities."
