SCF equips rural women with livestock, entrepreneurial skills
The workshop aimed to equip selected women beneficiaries with practical knowledge and skills to enhance their resilience and livelihood opportunities in the face of climate change.
On the first day, the training focused on various aspects of climate-smart livestock management, including disease prevention, vaccination animal care practices, habitat management, and adaptive strategies to cope with changing environmental conditions.
The second day was dedicated to building the women's capacity in entrepreneurship and small-scale business development, particularly in the areas of livestock-based and home-based food security income-generating activities. These women have been identified under the project's livelihood component to receive support in initiating their own small-scale businesses.
Ms. Hira Arain and Lateef Soomro facilitated the sessions as trainers, delivering technical and practical insights to the participants.
A concluding ceremony was held and attended by M.B. Khaskheli, Cluster Coordinator, Pathfinder International; Javed Hussain, Executive Director, SCF; and Fayaz Wagan, Deputy Director, Livestock Department, Thatta and Humera Ali SCF.
Speaking at the event, Fayaz Wagan, Deputy Director of the Livestock Department, Thatta, emphasized that women are the primary caretakers of livestock in rural areas. He stressed the need to raise awareness among women about modern techniques of livestock management, especially in the context of changing disease patterns due to climate change. He noted that vaccination, timely disease prevention, and proper animal care are essential for maintaining healthy livestock and ensuring sustained livelihoods.
Javed Hussain, Executive Director of Sindh Community Foundation, stated that while Pakistan remains one of the leading producers of milk and meat, the livestock sector faces growing threats from climate-induced diseases and environmental stressors. He underlined the urgent need to promote climate-smart livestock practices to protect rural economies and strengthen national food security.

SAU Syndicate approves academic, financial, governance reforms
HYDERABAD: The Syndicate of Sindh Agriculture University (SAU) Tandojam, chaired by Vice Chancellor Engr. Prof. Dr. Altaf Ali Siyal, convened a high-level meeting to review and approve a wide range of academic, financial, and administrative matters of institutional importance. The meeting commenced with unanimous confirmation of the minutes and approval of the implementation of decisions made during the 117th Syndicate meeting held on October 25, 2024. The Syndicate also endorsed various academic initiatives taken by the Vice Chancellor in recent months, aimed at enhancing academic continuity, strengthening educational delivery, and improving administrative efficiency. The Syndicate formally approved the university's annual accounts for the fiscal year 2023–24, along with the revised budget for 2024–25 and the budget estimates for 2025–26. These financial matters had previously been reviewed and recommended by the Finance and Planning Committee (FPC) in its meeting held on June 30, 2025. In accordance with the directives of the Government of Sindh, the forum ratified the implementation of the Ad-Hoc Relief Allowance 2025 and the increase in pensions for retired employees of the university. Additionally, the Third-Party Audit Report for the financial year 2023–24 was presented and formally approved. In support of staff welfare, the Syndicate approved an increase in the minimum wage for contingent and daily-wage workers in line with the provincial minimum wage policy. It also sanctioned an enhancement in impress and contingent allocations to sectional heads, with the objective of ensuring smooth and efficient functioning at the departmental level. PM ‘dissatisfied' with CDA chief's performance
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed dissatisfaction over the performance of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) chairman, as multiple reports point to administrative lapses and substandard construction work in the federal capital. The sources within the CDA told Business Recorder that the prime minister has decided to remove CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa and Chief Commissioner Islamabad and member administration Talat Gondal from their respective positions. The decision, the sources added, follows a string of complaints and documented irregularities concerning several civic projects. CDA faces criticism as audit reveals lack of transparency According to insider accounts, the prime minister has already conducted interviews with two former CDA chairmen as potential replacements. The prime minister is said to have taken serious note of irregularities in the Serena Underpass and the Business Facilitation Centre projects. A report detailing discrepancies in billing practices for LED lighting - where charges were allegedly drawn from the public exchequer - has also been submitted, sources said. In addition, drainage issues in the Diplomatic Enclave have reportedly caused damage to foreign missions, prompting several European embassies to lodge formal written complaints with the Prime Minister's Office. Concerns were further heightened over substandard construction at the Tayyip Erdogan Interchange, which, according to government officials, may have adversely affected Pakistan's international image. A separate report indicating alleged embezzlement of Rs500 million in a development project has also been received by the prime minister. Reports also suggest that the prime minister expressed dismay over inappropriate conduct by CDA officials towards elected representatives. The removal of Randhawa and Gondal now appears imminent, with an official notification expected shortly, according to government sources. Expo centre in Faisalabad is need of the day: FCCI
FAISALABAD: Expo Centre in Faisalabad is the need of the day to organize international level exhibitions to showcase quality products produced in this export city, said Mr. Rehan Naseem Bharara, President Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FCCI). Addressing the fifth meeting of FCCI Standing Committee on 'Council of Textile and Expo Centre' online, he said that efforts must be expedited in the right direction to materialize this objective as early as possible. He said that Faisalabad has emerged as the export hub of the country which was not only exporting quality textiles but also a long and diverse range of other products. He said that the expo centre would help our exporters to showcase their products in an internationally compliant environment. He appreciated the efforts of Bilal Jamil Convenor FCCI Standing Committee for the establishment of the expo centre in Faisalabad. Bilal Jamil briefed the committee about the progress made in this respect. The meeting discussed in detail the proper allotment of land for the expo centre and its related issues. The meeting was also attended by Dr Tanvir Ahmad Rector NTU, Mian Muhammad Latif, Bao Akram Regional Chairman APTPMA, Arif Ihsan Malik of APBUMA and Gulzar Naveed of APTMA.
