PSG president writes Aberdeen a glowing letter after decking Celtic as Scottish Cup exploits impress world's best
Dave Cormack has revealed he received a personal letter of congratulations from Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi following Aberdeen's shock Scottish Cup triumph over Celtic.
Against all the odds, Jimmy Thelin 's men fought back from a goal down to win the trophy for the first time since 1990 via a penalty shootout, with Dimtar Mitov keeping out Alistair Johnston 's spot-kick to send the Red Army inside the national stadium wild.
That victory has also guaranteed the club a European campaign next season that will last until Christmas at the earliest, with the Reds entering the play-off qualification stage of the Europa League next month.
An estimated 100,000 people lined the streets of Aberdeen on the following day to welcome their heroes home as Cormack, Thelin and the players paraded the trophy along Union Street.
As well as reigning Champions League winners PSG -taking notice, the Atlanta-based software business tycoon revealed that the Aberdeen also obtained a touching letter from the board at 2022 Europa League winners' Eintracht Frankfurt, with the two clubs developing a healthy relationship from their group stage clash in the Conference League in the 2023/24 season.
In an interview with Ally Begg ABTV, he said: "You get to know directors of other clubs when you play in Europe.
"The guys at Frankfurt looked after us the last time we were over there in the group stages. They are great guys.
"When they came to Aberdeen, we booked out Maryculter House (for them), and the old-dining room in there that goes back to 1225 and the Knight's Templar.
"Germans love their whisky. Axel (Hellman) is the CEO and when we played them at Pittodrie and won 2-0, he was staying on in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire for three days after it to go on a whisky tour. Thankfully he had a driver!
"We gave them a five litre bottle of whisky.
"We then got a lovely letter from all the board and the sporting director Markus Krosche congratulating us on winning the Scottish Cup and they said 'now is the appropriate time for us as a board to open the bottle of whisky'.
"I (also) got a lovely letter from Nasser Al-Khelaifi who is president of PSG and also the chairman of the ECA (European Club Association).
"Aberdeen is a well-known club in Europe."

New Food and Drink Producers to be Showcased at Royal Welsh Food Hall
An array of new Welsh food and drink businesses will feature on the Cywain Stand in the Food Hall at this year's Royal Welsh Show (July 21st-24th). From concept to counter, the Cywain stand has been the launch-pad for countless up-and-coming food and drink producers, eager to showcase their products to a broad audience. Four different producers will take to the stand per day, each bringing their individual style and flavours to an audience looking to try and buy something new. Cywain is a programme run by Mentera and funded by the Welsh Government, working with food and drink producers across Wales, helping them grow and develop their businesses. Support is offered in various areas, including marketing, brand development, sustainability, and finance. An essential part of that work includes supporting producers at events and test trading. Alex James, Cywain Project Manager, said: 'We take great delight in helping producers to grow in experience and confidence, bringing new products to the marketplace and adding their talents to the Welsh food and drink industry as a whole. 'The Royal Welsh Food Hall is a hugely important showcase for Welsh food and drink producers, and the ultimate shopwindow – and, for the public, it is one of the 'must visit' attractions of the show. 'Such opportunities are part of Cywain's portfolio of support available for businesses throughout their growth journey, from day one start-ups to more established enterprises.' After making a successful appearance at the Cywain stand in 2024, Swansea-based Nonna Assunta, has confidently stepped up to host its very own stand in the Food Hall this year. The brand will be showcasing their meticulously handcrafted, small-batch liqueurs that capture the vibrant essence of the Mediterranean. Alex Diiulio, said: 'Trading in the Food Hall with Cywain gave us an excellent opportunity to chat with customers and to grow brand awareness, which not only drove sales but also led to us securing a significant wholesaler listing. Attending the Show for the first time with Cywain was invaluable in helping us assess the viability of trading there independently and gave us a clearer understanding of the logistics and expectations for our own stand. It was a great learning experience.'

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) THERE are plenty of new faces at Rangers' training ground this summer amid major changes at the club. But there's also been a surprise appearance from an iconic footballing figure at the Ibrox club's Milngavie base. 2 Legendary footie boss Sir Alex Ferguson Credit: Getty 2 Sir Alex has been at the Rangers training ground Credit: INSTAGRAM/@NICDOC11 Russell Martin's Rangers squad have been back in pre-season training for almost a month and they're just a week away from the real stuff getting started. The Light Blues face Panathinaikos in a crunch Champions League qualifier at Ibrox next Tuesday. New boss Martin has seven new players at his disposal, with winger Djeidi Gassama the latest new recruit. There's been plenty of change on the women's team too with boss Jo Potter leaving her role. They've also bid farewell to key players including Kirsty Maclean, Chelsea Cornet, Tessel Middag and Jane Ross. There has, of course, also been the US takeover of the club. But amid all of that change, a VERY familiar face has been spotted at the training centre. None other than Sir Alex Ferguson. The footie great, 83, of course had a two-year spell as a Rangers player - his boyhood club - between 1967 and 1969. Sir Alex is of course much more famous for a glittering managerial career, in which he led Aberdeen to league title and European glory before going on to become the greatest Manchester United boss ever. Rangers boss Russell Martin opens up on transfer plans as he delivers updates on Dessers and Igamane Govan-born Fergie has made the odd trip back to Ibrox in recent years. In fact, he was a guest of honour just last month when he was given the honour of a tour at the Rangers Museum. During his walk around the New Edmiston House shrine, Sir Alex spotted a letter he'd written to Dick Advocaat after the Gers' treble triumph back in 1999. Just a few weeks on, Sir Alex has been back at Rangers AGAIN. Rangers Women captain Nicola Docherty shared a picture of herself alongside the legendary boss in the training centre. Buzzing Docherty posted the snap to her Instagram stories and said: "Met a legend today, Sir Alex!" She also added: "His greatest quote - 'there was no way I could contemplate taking the England job. Can you imagine me doing that? A Scotsman? 'I always joked that I would take the position and relegate them: make them 150th rated country in the world, with Scotland 149'." Ferguson revealed in his autobiography that he HAD been offered the chance to become England manager during his career. Exactly what he was doing at the Rangers training centre remains to be seen.
