Sharjah: The Sharjah Airport International Free Zone Authority (SAIF Zone) and Hamriyah Free Zone Authority (HFZA) have received four prestigious accolades at the 6th Financial Excellence Performance Award for 2024–2025, organised by the Sharjah Finance Department (SFD).
The awards recognise both free zones for upholding the highest standards in financial and tax management, transparency, compliance, and governance.
Hamriyah Free Zone Authority was named the Leading Independent Entity in applying revenue standards, while SAIF Zone received the Leading Independent Entity award for excellence in implementing accounting and tax standards.
In the individual categories, Mohammed Al Marzooqi from SAIF Zone was honoured as Outstanding New Financial Employee from Independent Entities, and Dhiju Balakrishnan, Financial Planning and Analysis from HFZA, was awarded Outstanding Tax Analyst for Independent Entities.
Sound governance principles
His Excellency Saud Salim Al Mazrouei, Director of Hamriyah Free Zone Authority and Sharjah Airport International Free Zone Authority, stated that receiving these awards is a true testament to the ongoing efforts to enhance financial and administrative systems in line with the highest international standards.
Al Mazrouei emphasised that the two entities are committed to building an integrated, efficient, and transparent framework in full compliance with financial and tax regulations as well as sound governance principles.
This achievement, he noted, was made possible thanks to the continuous support of Sheikh Khaled bin Abdullah bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Sharjah Ports, Customs and Free Zones Authority, whose close oversight of the two authorities' operations has been instrumental in their success.
Al Mazrouei further noted that this honour demonstrates the keenness of both free zones to adopt smart systems and ensure financial and operational sustainability, key pillars in improving the investor experience, thereby supporting the sustainable economic development goals of the Emirate of Sharjah.
He extended his gratitude to the Steering Committee and the Sharjah Finance Department for this recognition. His Excellency reaffirmed that HFZA and SAIF Zone will continue striving for excellence by upholding the highest standards of governance and advanced financial management. This is not only to strengthen investor confidence, both locally and internationally, but also to attract high-quality, diversified investments that solidify the free zones' position as leading economic and investment hubs on the regional and global stage.
The current edition of the Financial Excellence Performance Award witnessed remarkable participation from over 60 government and independent entities, along with more than 700 financial professionals.
Participants competed across various institutional and individual award categories, reflecting the strong culture of financial excellence in the Emirate of Sharjah. The award continues to play a vital role in enhancing the capabilities of both individuals and institutions while contributing to the overall improvement of financial sector performance.

This mission reflects SCCI's commitment to supporting the expansion of the UAE companies and the private sector representatives into the Indian market, while also showcasing Sharjah's diverse and high-potential investment opportunities to Indian counterparts. The forum was attended by Abdallah Sultan Al Owais, Chairman of SCCI; Waleed AbdelRahman BuKhatir, Second Vice Chairman of SCCI; and Jamal Mohamed Sultan Binhuwaidin, SCCI Board Member. The program featured a range of business meetings and B2B engagements between companies from both sides, aimed at exploring cooperation opportunities, forging agreements, and forming strategic investment partnerships to drive bilateral trade growth. In his keynote speech, Abdallah Sultan Al Owais expressed his gratitude to the Indian side for their warm welcome and generous hospitality. He emphasized the deep-rooted relations between the UAE and India, noting that that both economies are among the fastest growing in the world, which signals strong prospects for expanding economic opportunities in the coming period. He highlighted the remarkable growth in the two countries' economic partnership, with the UAE ranking as India's third-largest global trading partner in 2024. The volume of non-oil trade between the UAE and India exceeded AED 240 billion in 2024, marking a 20.5% increase from AED 199.3 billion in 2023. This sustained growth reflects the robust momentum and strategic depth of the bilateral trade ties between the two nations. 'Mumbai boasts a strong economic foundation rooted in financial services, information technology, trade, and maritime shipping. It stands out as a strategic gateway for UAE businesses to explore and capitalize on high-potential investment opportunities across these vital sectors. This forum represents a key milestone in advancing bilateral business collaboration and enhancing joint efforts to grow trade and investment volumes,' Al Owais added. He noted that this collaboration will further strengthen the economic ties between the UAE and India, marking a significant stride toward fulfilling the objectives of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), which aims to increase mutual investment and trade flows and raise non-oil bilateral trade to $100 billion by 2030 . He outlined the emirate's diverse economic landscape, its advanced infrastructure, vital industrial and commercial zones, and world-class logistical facilities. The presentation highlighted the Sharjah Chamber's initiatives to support investor engagement through its structured network of business councils. As part of its ongoing visit to India, which will continue until July 11, the delegation will head to Ahmedabad for the second leg of its tour. The report, titled 'The Middle East Cryptocurrency Landscape 2025', highlights how the country's forward-thinking approach to regulation, combined with its zero-tax environment for digital asset transactions, has unlocked unprecedented growth. 'The UAE's clear regulations and zero capital gains tax have created the perfect environment for crypto growth,' said Solaiman AlRifai, Founder and Board Member of Mining Grid.'With an engaged and forward-looking population, it's no surprise the country is now seen as the crypto capital of the Arab world.'Mining Grid's data shows that over 93% of the region's total crypto inflows – amounting to $338.7 billion across the Middle East during the same period – came from large, institutional-sized transfers. It says that this signals that regional markets are increasingly focused on long-term strategies rather than speculative, high-risk the Middle East now ranks as the seventh-largest crypto market, and the UAE's contribution has been pivotal in this growth. The reports analysts point to the country's clear legal frameworks, sophisticated financial infrastructure, and Web3 adoption as central factors in attracting both retail investors and major youth's interest in the market was identified as a key driver of the UAE's crypto boom. Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank (ADIB) announced it has mobilised AED17bn ($4.63bn) in sustainable finance by the end of 2024, marking major progress toward its AED60bn ($16.3bn) commitment by 2030. The milestone was detailed in the bank's newly released 2024 Sustainability Report, which outlines ADIB's environmental, social, and governance (ESG) progress in line with the UAE Net Zero 2050 and UAE 2031 national strategies. ADIB became the first Islamic bank in the region to publish sector-specific financed emissions targets, focusing on six high-emission sectors including real estate, utilities, and home finance. Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank reported an 87 per cent reduction in Scope 1 emissions and a 3.51 per cent drop in Scope 2 emissions compared to 2022. These gains are attributed to continued investments in energy efficiency, electrification, and operational optimisation. The bank's double materiality approach ensures that it evaluates not only how sustainability affects business performance but also how ADIB's operations impact people, planet, and economy—in line with global best practice for corporate sustainability disclosures.
