Robert Irwin and Shawn Mendes romance rumours rock the internet

Metro21-06-2025
The internet is convinced Robert Irwin and Shawn Mendes are a couple for a very bizarre reason.
Yes, you read that correctly. The latest romance rumours in 2025, following JoJo Siwa and Chris Hughes, and Elizabeth Hurley and Billy Ray Cyrus, follow two of the most unlikely heartthrobs.
Of course, social media is at the source of the rumours, more specifically, a slew of AI-generated images of the duo embracing.
Pictures began cropping up online which show the Senorita hitmaker, 26, and the conservationist, 21, alongside clickbait headlines such as 'Shawn Mendes thought the cameras were off 🎥… but Robert Irwin remembers everything 🐊. Whatever happened in the wild didn't stay there 🌪️, and it's starting to smell 🔥.'
Another post from June 18 reads: 'Shawn Mendes and Robert Irwin dropped one silent bombshell—one glance, one laugh, and the whole internet started whispering 🔥👀.'
But why? In an even stranger turn, this rumour allegedly began three years ago when both Robert and Shawn alongside Javier Bardem were promoting 2022 film Lyle, Lyle Crocodile.
After watching an interview clip in which Robert passionately talks about his love for reptiles, internet sleuths began to decode his and Shawn's body language, which they think point to a romantic connection.
It has gone so far that the Irwin family has received congratulations for the happy couple, despite assuring fans that Robert and Shawn are 'just friends.'
'It's been a whirlwind,' an insider told Daily Mail Australia.
'People are congratulating Robert on social media like it's official, but he and Shawn are obviously just friends.'
'Shawn has always had fun with fans' theories, but there's clearly nothing going on romantically,' they added.
Fans have run with it online, sharing posts speculating over their potential relationship. https://www.instagram.com/reel/CjbTLbLBRCB/
'Shawn Mendes and Robert Irwin dating rumors…' Shakenjaeke wrote on X, adding in a separate post: 'and im choosing to believe it bc that would be fun and cute.'
On Facebook, Salvatore Canino said: 'This is awesome! The internet can be so funny sometimes.why can't guys embrace. Why so much jealousy and judgments.Life is about caring.Whatever pics are on media is fine .Stop putting opinions on embracing .Both great guys .x'
Many said they would be a 'hot couple' while sharing their congratulations, but others pointed out the photos were obviously fake.
Both Shawn and Robert are reportedly single after Shawn was previously rumoured to be dating Charlie Travers and Dr Jocelyne Miranda following his split from popstar Camila Cabello.
TV presenter Robert, meanwhile, reportedly split with his rumoured girlfriend Charlotte Briggs earlier this year after ending his relationship with Rorie Buckey in 2024.
It comes just weeks after Robert broke the internet with a series of racy shots posing for Australian underwear brand Bonds More Trending
He appeared in the snaps with with a perentie lizard in his arms, and a snake wrapped around his bare torso, garnering legions of thirsty comments.
Taking to Instagram with a video of him lifting and doing press ups ahead of the underwear shoot, Robert explained just how he got so shredded: 'There isn't one single formula to follow. I reckon the most important thing is not to compare yourself to anyone else, just keep trying to be the best version of YOU.
'Listen to your body, keep moving and improving. Treat your whole body, inside and out with kindness, focus on good nutrition and apply a healthy amount of discipline. It has done wonders for my mind, and given me that extra lightness in my step.'

MAFS expert John Aiken breaks silence on cast being snubbed from Logies and why the reality juggernaut will never win TV's top gong

Married At First Sight may be one of the biggest shows on Australian television, but in a surprising twist, it has never taken home a Logie. Speaking to Daily Mail Australia ahead of Sunday night's Logie Awards, expert John Aiken admitted that despite dominating the ratings every year, the reality series has never been recognised with a win on Australian TV's night of nights. 'We have never won anything at the Logies,' Aiken admitted. 'But we're pretty happy with the ratings that we have. At the end of the day it all comes down to who's prepared to vote. 'The shows that win usually have people who get online and vote. With MAFS, while we have a lot of committed viewers, they don't seem to vote.' From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. Aiken said the team does not measure success by trophies. 'We don't do it to get a Logie, we do it because it's fun, it's exciting and a lot of people watch it. The real prize is the huge audience engagement we get every year,' he said. This year, like in the past, many MAFS cast members have been left off the official Logies guest list, something Aiken says is out of everyone's hands. 'It's a privilege to be invited, but it's completely out of my hands and out of the hands of the talent. Every year people are going to miss out, but you have no control over it,' he explained. And even if the show did win a Logie, Aiken joked it would be risky to let some of the brides or grooms accept the award. 'You'd have no idea what they're going to say,' he said with a laugh. 'They're very brave people who put themselves out there and I'm grateful to them for doing the show, but you never know what they'll do once filming wraps.' Aiken says that while the Logies may elude them, the show's reach is undeniable. 'It's now in its 13th season and it just keeps growing. It's sold into over 120 countries and it's consistently high in the ratings here. We keep putting out a high-quality product that people respond to,' John said. The social media ripple effect is also huge. 'TikTok, Instagram, Snapchat - it's all part of the cast's life now. Even if they don't get to go to the Logies they still get big opportunities in the media afterwards,' he said. Aiken says the show is polarising and that is exactly why it works. 'People either love it or hate it, but no one feels lukewarm. If it gets people talking, frustrated, cheering or angry, we're doing something right.' As for Sunday's Logies, Aiken is expecting a ribbing. 'I'll cop a little serve from all sorts of people. But you've got to have a thick skin and be able to laugh at yourself in this industry,' he said. With filming on the new season underway, Aiken teased that viewers can expect a fiery group of women leading the charge. 'We've got a cast full of very powerful, opinionated, outspoken women who will hold everyone to account. Some also have a heavy TikTok flavour to their dating approach which is very entertaining,' John explained. He says the cast is unlike anything we have seen before, with fresh cultural diversity, a sports presenter who loves cricket, and personalities who break the mould of previous seasons. Fans can also expect Aiken to continue his no-nonsense approach at the dinner parties. 'My role is clear now. I call out bad behaviour and hold people to account,' he said. 'Over the last few seasons I've become more direct and blunt because sometimes the behaviour is more extreme. People at home learn from that too.' Aiken also weighed in on some of last season's breakout stars – and why they became household names. 'Eliot Donovan was such an interesting journey. He came in polarising, had some ups and downs, but by the end people could see a different side of him. That redemption arc is rare on reality TV and it made people lean in,' Aiken said. Aiken meanwhile praised fellow bride Jamie Marinos, calling her 'a total breath of fresh air'. 'Jamie was bubbly, funny and had that unfiltered way of speaking her mind that you just cannot script,' he said. 'People loved her energy and it translated into huge social media engagement.' He added that these big personalities are exactly why MAFS continues to dominate the cultural conversation. 'They're authentic. Sometimes that makes them controversial, but it also makes them relatable. Whether people are cheering for them or against them, they're watching.' Voting is now open for all awards and will remain open until 7pm AEST, Friday, August 1.

Emmerdale exit 'confirmed' in early ITVX release as Robert faces John's wrath

The following article contains spoilers from an episode of Emmerdale that hasn't aired on ITV1 yet, but can be viewed on ITVX. John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) has uncovered some huge information about Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) in Emmerdale. The two siblings have been involved in a tiresome back and forth ever since Robert returned to the village. John wants Robert gone because he's worried about Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) getting back with him, while Robert wants to see the back of John because he's convinced he is too good to be true. Robert's views on John were highlighted in this evening's episode when Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson) arrived at his house. The local GP had been asked by John to check in on Robert, believing his time in prison was having a serious impact on his mental health. Liam wanted to talk to Robert about life behind bars, and how the trauma has impacted him today. When Robert found out that Liam was only visiting because John asked him, he focused on the fact he thinks his sibling is bad news, rather than opening up about his past. Unbeknownst to them both, John was listening in on this conversation as a result of planting an audio bug in the living room. More Trending While Robert didn't tell Liam anything that made John's ears prick up a great deal, he did say something that left John smirking later in the day. Back in the van, John discovered that Robert was the one who stole the weed from Ross Barton (Michael Parr) and Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) a couple of weeks ago, and then sold it to Ray. Before the week ends, John will find Ross in the street and reveals to him that he's discovered something about Robert. Ross doesn't like Robert at the moment because he's suspicious that he stole the weed. He currently doesn't have any confirmation it was him – so what will he do next if John reveals the truth? Tributes pour in after legendary Australian singer and TV star dies following shock health battle: 'The music industry has lost an icon'

Tributes have flooded in for legendary Australian singer Doug De Kroo, who died aged 84 this week at a regional NSW hospital, after a short battle with pneumonia. The Perth-born singer was one half of the iconic Aussie '60s vocal group The De Kroo Brothers, who enjoyed enormous success across the country. His death was confirmed on Tuesday in a statement from Australian band The Road Runners. 'It is with extreme sadness to let everyone know that legendary rocker Doug De Kroo passed away on Monday from complications of pneumonia at Bellingen Hospital,' the statement began. 'Doug will be greatly missed by his family, bandmates and friends... Also the Australian Rock 'n' Roll fraternity in general.' From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the Daily Mail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. They added De Kroo's legacy would live on through his incredible music. 'His music with The De Kroo Brothers will live on not only on the internet but also on the treasured vinyl records they released during the '60s,' they wrote. The performer was born Doug Brewer and took on the stage surname De Kroo to perform alongside his bandmate Leo as The De Kroo Brothers. Their journey began in Perth and flourished in Sydney from 1960 onwards. They quickly made their mark with Columbia Records, releasing their debut single On The Job Too Long in March 1960, followed closely by Loveland. Despite their early efforts, commercial success proved elusive until they joined Festival Records, where their breakthrough hit (And Her Name Was) Scarlet climbed into the Australian Top 10 in September 1963. Their success was boosted by a string of high-profile TV appearances on some of the most popular shows of the day, including Channel Nine's Bandstand, The Graham Kennedy Show and Teen Time. They toured extensively, including supporting Cliff Richard and the Shadows on their Australian and New Zealand tour in 1961. Their music, characterised by an upbeat rockabilly sound, resonated deeply with audiences, cementing their place in the Australian rock 'n' roll scene. Heartbroken fans took to social media to pay tribute to Doug. 'Very sad news. The DeKroo Bros, Australia's answer to The Everly Bros,' one person wrote. 'The music industry has lost an icon today. Condolences to his family,' a second added. Doug De Kroo continued to enrich the local Australian music community until shortly before his passing. He established a music teaching business in Sydney and remained active in various rockabilly groups. His passion for music and dedication to his craft extended well beyond the stage, and his passing marks the end of an incredible chapter in Australian music history. He is survived by his wife and three daughters.
