Yasmim brace sends Brazil into Copa America semis with 4-1 win over Paraguay
Yasmim opened the scoring in the 27th minute with a curling free kick that nestled inside the far post and she doubled Brazil's lead 12 minutes later with an almost identical effort, catching the Paraguayan keeper off guard once again.
Brazil goalkeeper Lorena produced a superb save to deny a long-range strike from Claudia Martinez before Paraguay's Camila Arrieta was sent off after receiving a second yellow card for a foul on captain Marta.
Brazil made their numerical advantage count with Amanda Gutierres making it 3-0 on the hour mark but a lapse in defence allowed Paraguay to pull one back in the 65th minute through the tournament's leading scorer Martinez, who notched her fifth goal of the competition.
However, any hopes of a comeback were short-lived as Duda Sampaio restored Brazil's three-goal lead with a composed finish in the 75th minute.
'I'm very happy for the goals but above all for the result and for the victory,' Yasmim said at the Estadio Gonzalo Pozo Ripalda.
'We are very happy for the qualification to the semis. We have many aspects that we know we can improve. We have to keep working and giving our all for this shirt.'
Brazil remain unbeaten in Group B and will face Colombia in their final group-stage fixture on Friday - a rematch of the previous edition's final.
'Colombia are a very strong team, we know it will be difficult,' Yasmim added.
'This match is like a derby, we have to prepare ourselves in the best way to face them.' — AFP

There is a growing rivalry between the nations, with England winning in extra time when they clashed in the quarter-finals at Euro 2022. The sides have also already faced each other twice this year in the UEFA Nations League, with England winning 1-0 at Wembley in February. Spain avenged that result by claiming a 2-1 victory in Barcelona at the beginning of last month, when Claudia Pina scored twice after Alessia Russo had given England the lead. 'We have played each other a lot over the last couple of years and I think you always have learnings from the games we have played,' said England coach Sarina Wiegman. 'Tomorrow is a new situation where we have an opportunity to hopefully take out their strengths a bit and exploit some of their weaknesses too.' 'Football, especially women's football, really celebrates community and people's different ways of showing their style, whether it be fashion or tattoos, and celebrating community through individualism,' Mills told Reuters. 'And so, I think it's a really big crossover between people who love football and also love tattoos.' The Australian, herself a 'massive football fan', has also done tattoos in commemoration of Arsenal winning the women's Champions League earlier this year and England's victory at the 2022 Euros. 'I just always loved designing tattoos that are around things people are super passionate about, and designing them in a way where people who want something a bit more simple or subtle or more feminine, and celebrate sport as well,' she said. Football federation duped by fake emails claiming Xavi and Guardiola applied for India coaching job
NEW DELHI, July 26 — The All India Football Federation (AIFF) confirmed today that a job application attributed to former Barcelona manager and Spain midfielder Xavi Hernandez for the India head coaching role was a hoax. The AIFF's national team director told The Times of India on Thursday that Xavi's name was on the list of applicants. The report also quoted an AIFF technical committee member saying the his candidacy was deemed too expensive to pursue. 'The AIFF received an email furnishing the applications from Spanish coaches Pep Guardiola and Xavi Hernandez. The authenticity of their applications could not be confirmed, and it has since emerged that the email applications were not genuine,' the AIFF said in a statement. It had not been previously reported that the AIFF had also received an application purporting to be from Manchester City manager Guardiola. The AIFF Technical Committee said it had reviewed 170 applications for the Indian men's head coach role, narrowing the list to 10 before short-listing three candidates. The AIFF sacked former India manger Igor Stimac in June last year before appointing Spaniard Manolo Marquez, who left the job this month and returned to his role as coach of Indian Super League team FC Goa. — Reuters
