Prince Harry gave playful telling off after Meghan Markle kiss at Royal Ascot

Daily Mirror18-06-2025

One month after their royal wedding in 2018, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were in attendance at Royal Ascot, with jockey Frankie Dettori stealing the show with a rogue kiss
Prince Harry once playfully reprimanded jockey Frankie Dettori after he kissed Meghan Markle at Royal Ascot. Just a month after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's lavish wedding at St. George's Chapel in Windsor, they made a return to Ascot Racecourse for the first day of the historic Royal horse racing event.
The couple didn't attend the 2019 event as Meghan was on maternity leave with their first son, Archie. Following their dramatic decision to step down from senior Royal duties in 2020, neither have attended the five-day extravaganza since, spending most of their time in America as their relationship with the Royal Family continues to strain.

However, in 2018, they presented the winning trophy for the feature race of the opening day, the Group 1 St James's Palace Stakes, with the late Queen Elizabeth II also in attendance, and the winning jockey of the event caused quite a commotion.

Dettori was the triumphant rider. The Italian boasts an impressive 81 winners at the Royal meeting over the years and is famed for his charismatic flying dismount, as per Aberdeen Live.
The famous jockey, who featured in series 23 of reality TV show I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!, was victorious on board three-year-old colt Without Parole, riding for trainer John Gosden.
Dettori was in high spirits after his mount, the 9-4 favourite, burst from the stalls and secured a half-length victory to take home the £300,000 prize.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were spotted in the winners' enclosure post-race, where Dettori received his trophy but not before he cheekily kissed Meghan's hand, prompting a playful telling-off from a blushing Prince Harry who pointed his finger in mock admonishment.
The crowd enjoyed a chuckle over the exchange, and the successful Dettori-Gosden duo celebrated further triumphs with Monarchs Glen in the Wolferton Stakes and Calyx in the Coventry Stakes earlier that day.

"A fantastic day for the whole team. To have three winners in a week is amazing. To have three winners on the first day is fantastic," Dettori said on their opening day success.
Reflecting on the St. James's Palace Stakes, Dettori added: "I was afraid of Ryan (Moore, on long-time race leader US Navy Flag) when he got those three lengths in the straight, as I know what a good horse he is.
"I went all guns blazing after him, and a furlong and a half out, I found myself in front with nobody to help me. I was rowing like in the boat race on the Thames to get to the line."
Despite the triumphant and incredibly successful day, Dettori was slapped with a seven-day whip ban for his ride on Without Parole and subsequently fined £4,300.

Jeff Bezos' star-studded guests finally leave Venice after 72-hour wedding

Amazon billionaire Jeff Bezos and new wife Lauren Sanchez tied the knot in front of 200 of the world's richest people over the weekend The Kardashians and Oprah Winfrey were among the biggest names pictured leaving Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez's 72-hour nuptials in Venice that has been dubbed 'the wedding of the century'. Around 200 of the world's richest people descended on the Italian city for a thee-day celebration when the Amazon billionaire, 61, tied the knot with the 55-year-old American journalist and TV star over the weekend. ‌ Looking a little tired out by the extravaganza, Kris Jenner, 69, was spotted walking arm in arm alongside Oprah, 71, and her BFF Gayle King, 70. But the trio still looked chic, with Kris in a jungle patterned two piece, Oprah in all white and Gayle in a colourful striped midi dress. ‌ Also spotted leaving the high profile event was Microsoft billionaire Bill Gates, 69, and his glamorous new girlfriend Paula Hurd, 62, who he has been dating since 2023 following his split from wife of 27 years Melinda in 2021. Pirates of the Caribbean and Lord of the Rings star Orlando Bloom, 48, was there as a 'newly single man' following his reported split from Katy Perry, who he was engaged to and with for almost a decade. Another huge Hollywood actor who bagged himself an invite was Titanic legend Leonardo DiCaprio, 50, who was there with his 27-year-old Italian model girlfriend Vittoria Ceretti. Pregnant model Karlie Kloss, 32, was a guest alongside her husband Joshua Kushner, 40. Karlie stunned in a pink floor length dress. The couple are expecting their third child later this year. ‌ Also in attendance was Josh's brother Jared Kushner, 44, who is married to Donald Trump's 43-year-old daughter Ivanka. Though it's thought the US President was invited to the nuptials, he reportedly declined as a result of 'scheduling conflicts'. White Lotus and Euphoria star Sydney Sweeney, 27, R&B star Usher, 46, NFL star Tom Brady, 47 and fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg, 78, were also amongst the big name guests. But perhaps one surprising celebrity who managed to bag an invite was British singer-songwriter Ellie Goulding. King Charles's 'final act' will bring Prince Harry and Meghan Markle back into royal fold

King Charles III and Prince Harry have barely spoken for years, but His Majesty is said to have a plan that could heal the royal rift - however, it requires one very sad event to take place first The reign of King Charles III has been marred by the tragic rift between him and his son, Prince Harry. The Prince and his wife Meghan Markle stepped back from their Royal duties in early 2020, relocating to the United States and causing a fracture in relations with the rest of the Royal Family. The divide was further deepened following a shocking interview with US TV host Oprah Winfrey a year later, and, after the release of Harry's memoir 'Spare' in January 2023, it seemed there was no path back to Royal life for Harry. ‌ However, it has come to light that His Majesty the King may have a plan to mend the Royal rift – but it hinges on a very sombre event occurring first. ‌ Operation London Bridge – the funeral plan for the late Queen Elizabeth II – was devised in the 1960s when she would have been around 40. The plan detailed the announcement of her death, the official mourning period, and the specifics of her state funeral. The code-name 'London Bridge' has now been repurposed for the new monarch's funeral. According to the Daily Telegraph, this plan includes a significant role for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. The Telegraph's Palace source reveals that Harry and Meghan will be invited to participate in the family vigil during the lying in state at Westminster Hall, and are expected to be seated amongst the most senior royals during the funeral service. Harry and Meghan were seated directly behind the King and Queen Camilla at Queen Elizabeth II's funeral at Westminster Abbey, a move by Palace officials that saw them relegated to the second row near Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie. ‌ In contrast, Prince William and Princess Katherine of Wales, along with their eldest children Prince George and Princess Charlotte, occupied the front row across a small aisle from the King and Queen. This perceived snub reportedly left Harry and Meghan feeling more alienated and bitter upon their return to Montecito. ‌ However, a Palace insider has suggested that for the King's funeral, whenever it may occur, the Sussexes will be "enveloped in the plans at the highest level," It is expected that Harry will walk alongside his brother through central London in the funeral procession as they mourn their father. By planning to put aside past differences and placing Harry and Meghan at the centre of his funeral, the King has ensured that "his final public act brings his family together," according to the paper. Any concerns Prince Harry may have about security will be addressed, as their protection will be incorporated into the broader funeral plan. ‌ Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet are also expected to participate in age-appropriate parts of the funeral when the unfortunate passing of the King occurs. The King's commitment to environmental issues is anticipated to play a significant role in the proceedings, with a strong focus on sustainability. A representative for Buckingham Palace has been contacted for comment on these claims.
