MLS-best Union out for 'togetherness' vs. Dynamo
Tai Baribo looks to heat up again on Saturday as the Philadelphia Union take a two-match winning streak into Houston to face the Dynamo.
Baribo scored his 14th goal of the season in Philadelphia's 2-1 victory over CF Montreal on Wednesday. He had been kept without a tally in four matches after erupting for six in his previous four contests.
Baribo is three goals shy of Nashville SC star Sam Surridge in the race for the Golden Boot Award and is two behind Lionel Messi of Inter Miami.
Defender Olwethu Makhanya scored his first career MLS goal for the Union (14-5-4, 46 points), who remain one point ahead of FC Cincinnati in the bid for the Supporters' Shield.
'If you follow the pathway of this system, whether it's 2018 or 2023 or whether it's now, I think you can see just the overall contribution of togetherness. Everyone has a role to play,' Philadelphia head coach Bradley Carnell said. 'Everyone contributes and you see that with this group.'
The Dynamo (7-11-5, 26 points) have been shut out on back-to-back occasions and fell three points behind ninth-place San Jose in the Western Conference.
'There's no excuse for how we performed today,' Houston coach Ben Olsen said after his team's 3-0 setback to the Vancouver Whitecaps on Wednesday. 'And we have a team coming up in Philadelphia that's going to try and do the same thing Vancouver did today. So it's up to us to respond.'
Jack McGlynn, who spent the previous four seasons with Philadelphia, was denied in his bid to put the Dynamo on the scoreboard in the 67th minute. Houston mustered just two shots on goal in the entire match.
'It'll be a fun game, and good to see everyone,' McGlynn said of his upcoming reunion, per the Houston Chronicle. 'But once we step on the field, they'll be just like any other opponent.'
The Union have allowed the fewest goals in the league at 22.

CF Montreal profits from Philadelphia Union transfer deal for forward Milan Iloski
PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia Union acquired striker Milan Iloski from Denmark's FC Nordsjælland on Tuesday in a deal that netted CF Montreal up to US$250,000 (all figures in U.S. dollars) in general allocation money. Montreal was involved because it held the first overall spot in the MLS waiver order, allowing the Union to sign Iloski. Philadelphia sent the Canadian side its 21st spot in the waiver order. Montreal acquired $100,000 in 2025 general allocation money and up to $150,000 in conditional GAM. Philadelphia, which hosts Toronto FC in league play Saturday, has signed Iloski through 2027 with an option for 2028. Iloski, 26, played 14 games (including three starts) on loan with San Diego FC this season before returning to FC Nordsjælland in mid-July. 'Milan is a dynamic, instinctive goal scorer who thrives in attacking transition,' Philadelphia sporting director Ernst Tanner said in a statement. 'His ability to convert goal chances is extraordinary and he has a willingness to defend. We look forward to integrating him into the team quickly.' Iloski scored 10 goals and added one assist for San Diego, making MLS history by scoring four goals in a 12-minute span against the Vancouver Whitecaps to register the fastest four-goal performance in league history. Before joining San Diego, Iloski scored 43 goals and added 11 assists in 70 matches over two seasons for Orange County SC in the USL Championship. Saquon Barkley has declined an invitation to join President Donald Trump's council on sports, fitness, and nutrition, which is being revitalized under an executive order that also reestablishes the Presidential Fitness Test for American children. Kyle Schwarber, Phillies hope to tee off on Orioles again

Fresh off his latest offensive masterpiece, Schwarber hopes to lead the Philadelphia Phillies to another win over the visiting Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday. In the series opener on Monday, Schwarber hit a two-run homer early in the contest and then belted a grand slam to cap an eight-run sixth inning as the hosts prevailed 13-3. He now leads the NL in homers (40) and RBIs (94), and his .975 OPS ranks second behind Shohei Ohtani's .978. 'He's had a great year,' Phillies manager Rob Thomson said of Schwarber. 'He really has -- the home runs, the RBIs, the big hits he's had for us, the on-base (percentage). He's had a great year. ... I can understand why everybody loves him, because I do, too.' Four other Philadelphia players homered in the Monday contest: Bryce Harper, Harrison Bader, Edmundo Sosa and Weston Wilson. In all, the power display helped the Phillies win for the fourth time in six games. Meanwhile, the Orioles have lost four of their past five outings. He gave up two runs and seven hits in five innings in a no-decision against the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday. 'He was up in the zone,' Thomson said after the Phillies lost that game 9-3. 'He gave up a lot of (hard hits) today, but he worked through it. ... He gave us a chance to win the ballgame.' Walker has made 10 career starts against Baltimore, posting a 4-2 record with a 2.77 ERA. He will be opposed by Dean Kremer (8-7, 4.27), who has made one lifetime start against the Phillies. Back in 2023, the right-hander limited Philadelphia to one run and three hits over seven innings. More recently, Kremer allowed three runs and six hits over five innings in a no-decision against the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday. After the Orioles dropped that contest 9-8, Mansolino noted the effect of the heat on both starting pitchers, including Kremer, who has not absorbed a loss in any of his past eight starts. 'He was pretty red-faced as he came in,' Mansolino said, 'but he was fighting it just a tick today.' Kremer certainly could use some offensive support from the likes of O'Neill, who has homered in five of his past eight games, and Westburg, who is 13-for-31 (.419) over his past seven games.
