However, Squally weather with wind speed reaching 40-50kmph gusting to 60kmph likely to prevail over many parts of East central Arabian sea & Adjoining, some parts of westcentral Arabian sea, many parts of southeast Arabian sea and adjoining, some parts of southweat Arabian sea, many parts of northeast Arabian sea & Adjoining parts of Northweat Arabian sea, along and off north Gujarat, Kerala, North Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, West Bengal, Bangladesh Coasts, over Lakshadweep and off Srilanka Coast and Andaman Sea.

Continuous rainfall in Delhi-NCR on Thursday has brought much-needed respite from the sweltering heat, while simultaneously delivering a remarkable improvement in air quality. According to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), July 2025 has recorded the cleanest air in over a decade, with Air Quality Index (AQI) readings falling below 50 in several parts of the region -- a level categorised as 'very good'. This drastic improvement is largely attributed to the frequent rain showers over the past week, which have significantly reduced dust and airborne pollutants. However, while the rains have cleansed the atmosphere, they have also led to waterlogging and traffic congestion, posing a major challenge for the municipal authorities and daily commuters. As of July 31, many monitoring stations across Delhi-NCR reported AQI levels in the 20s and 30s. Prominent locations such as Alipur (28), Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium (38), Bawana (36), Narela and Nehru Nagar (both 48), Indirapuram in Ghaziabad (31), and Noida's Sector 62 and Sector 1 (both 34) registered some of the cleanest air seen in the capital in recent memory -- often even cleaner than hill stations. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the region is expected to remain under a cloud cover with light to moderate rainfall continuing until August 5. Office-goers and daily commuters faced significant delays as several arterial routes were submerged, highlighting the persistent urban planning and drainage challenges. Still, the rare combination of cool weather and sparkling clean air offered a silver lining -- giving Delhiites a breath of fresh air, quite literally, in what has become the city's cleanest July in over 10 years.

IMD augmenting its observation network in T.N. under Mission Mausam: MoS Jitendra Singh
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) is taking measures to augment its observation network, including in the flood-prone coastal districts of Tamil Nadu, under the Mission Mausam and Panchayat level Mausam Seva, said Jitendra Singh, Minister of State (Independent charge), Ministry of Science and Technology. In his response to the unstarred question raised by MP Dayanidhi Maran on Wednesday, Mr. Singh said there are 65 automatic weather stations and 80 automatic rain gauges in Tamil Nadu. In the flood-prone districts of Chennai, Cuddalore and Nagapattinam, there are a total of eight AWS and eight ARGs. It would be augmented further based on requirement. Mr. Maran had raised a question on the Union Government's plans to expand observation network, including AWS, ARGs and doppler weather radars. He had also raised another query on whether there was a dedicated strategy to enhance nowcast and short-range forecasts targeting vulnerable geographical regions of T.N., including Western Ghats and Delta region. To a question on plans to collaborate with Tamil Nadu State Disaster Management Authority (TNSDMA) to improve flood preparedness, Mr. Singh said IMD collaborated with TNSDMA and shared real-time weather data and sector-specific weather warnings. The Central Water Commission has been instructed to issue short-range flood forecasts with a lead time of 24 hours. Mr. Maran had also enquired whether the Union government had plans to make Tamil-language versions of the IMD mobile application and farmer-specific forecast platforms. This would help reach out to the rural population and agricultural workers. In his reply, Mr. Singh underlined the ongoing efforts to include 'Uzhavar' mobile application developed by the State Agriculture Department. District level agromet advisories issued by IMD along with various agencies are now available in Tamil on the app. Multiple platforms, including WhatsApp, are being used to disseminate farmer-centric weather information in Tamil, he added.
