'I just trained with him!' – Coach shocked by Appollis' Pirates switch

Polokwane City head coach Phuti Mohafe is in disbelief after learning that his star player, Oswin Appollis, has joined Orlando Pirates.
The Buccaneers announced the news on Tuesday afternoon, shocking many fans. Appollis, a Bafana Bafana player, had been heavily linked to Kaizer Chiefs for over a year, but no deal ever materialised.
Upon hearing that Appollis had been sold, the City coach noted that the player had trained with the club on Tuesday before Pirates made the announcement.
'My man, I don't know if that is true or what. When did he join Orlando Pirates because I have just left training and I was with him at training?' Mohafe told KickOff.com.
'So I don't know… when did he join Pirates?
'But I'm not shocked, maybe a bit surprised because you will never know what's happening during the night.'
'So, I will only believe the news about Appollis when I don't see him at training. When the boss tells me I will no longer see Appollis at training, that's when I will believe he is gone. That's the only time I will accept the decision.
'But again, already last season I had players who are better than Appollis but were not playing. So, if he goes it's fine. It won't be a big loss,' Mohafe said.
Appollis is Orlando Pirates' ninth season after the club announced eight new players last week.

Kaizer Chiefs news: Transfer frustrations mount, Striker joins squad

Kaizer Chiefs fans are growing increasingly anxious as the transfer window edges closer to closing without a major marquee signing. While local rivals Orlando Pirates have already bolstered their ranks with several top players, Amakhosi's activity has been slower, raising questions about the club's recruitment strategy. Despite these frustrations, Kaizer Chiefs recently confirmed the signing of Flavio Silva, a promising striker who joins the club with hopes of injecting new energy into their attack. Silva's arrival signals that the club is committed to strengthening the forward line, even if bigger names remain elusive. Naledi Hlongwane, a rising star from the Developmental Division, has been promoted to the senior squad and is expected to be given opportunities in the upcoming season. Sources reveal that the club is still on the lookout for at least one more experienced striker to complement Silva and Hlongwane. However, the price tags on top African forwards like Michael Olunga and Fiston Mayele have made negotiations difficult. Jessica Motaung, the club's director of football, recently addressed these concerns. 'We are working closely with the technical and sporting departments to identify and sign players who fit the team's style and ambitions,' she said. Motaung emphasized the importance of patience, reminding fans that the transfer window remains open and signings can still happen before the new season begins. As the new campaign approaches, Kaizer Chiefs supporters will be watching closely to see if their club can finalize key additions to match their rivals' impressive recruitment. Orlando Pirates set to land 11th signing continuing transfer spree

Orlando Pirates look set to finalise their eleventh signing ahead of the new season, with 22-year-old TS Galaxy defender Lebone Seama training with the Soweto giants. A source has confirmed that the player is currently under close assessment by the technical team. Seama, who joined TS Galaxy in 2022, played a pivotal role for the Mpumalanga-based side last season. He featured in 30 matches across all competitions, 22 of those in the Betway Premiership, as Tim Sukazi's men finished a respectable fifth. 'Seama has been seen training with the Buccaneers, who are taking their time to fully assess the defender.' If Pirates secure Seama's signature, he will add to an already impressive list of new recruits at Mayfair. The club has brought in a flurry of players as they strengthen under new coach Abdelsam Ouaddou, who took over from Jose Riveiro last month. The confirmed new arrivals so far include: Yanela Mbuthuma and Nkosikhona Mbatha (Richards Bay) Oswin Appollis (Polokwane City) Masindi Nemtajela (Marumo Gallants) Tshepang Moremi (AmaZulu) Sinoxolo Kwayiba (Chippa United) Tshepo Mashiloane (Baroka) Sihle Nduli (Stellenbosch) With Seama potentially completing the set, Pirates continue to back their ambition with bold transfer decisions. Pirates are preparing for an intensive pre-season tour in Spain, where they plan to play four friendly matches. The trip will provide an early glimpse of Ouaddou's tactics and how the new signings fit into his system. The Bucs, who finished second in the league for the third consecutive season. And claimed their third straight MTN8 title, appearing determined to go one better in 2025. Will Orlando Pirates complete signing number eleven? Gayton praises son's success: 'You grew up seeing me in jail'

Gayton McKenzie has heaped praise on his eldest son, Calvin Le John, who recently purchased SuperSport United, which he will rename Siwelele FC. The Minister of Sport has spoken about having eight children – from six women – including the advocate who helped him during his army robbery prison sentence. In an emotional Facebook post, Gayton McKenzie praised his eldest son, Calvin Le John, for his successful acquisition of SuperSport United. The 51-year-old shared how Calvin was born mere hours after he was convicted of armed robbery in 1996. He posted of his son: 'You grew up seeing me through jail bars. You never visited me on the weekends of the home games of Siwelele because you and your grandpa would go and watch the games religiously just like me and him when I was young. Gayton McKenzie has praised his son Calvin Le John for purchasing SuperSport United. Calvin plans to rename the club Siwelele FC. Images via X 'I remember you told me that it brings you closer to me emotionally. Knowing that you're doing the same thing I did with my father and your grandfather. Despite not having his father around, Gayton claims that Calvin Le John – who changed his last name – was a 'good kid with good intentions'. He continued: 'You suffered not growing up without your Dad. I thank God for a powerful mother who stood in the gap. You are the main reason why I behaved better. Because I wanted to come out and didn't wanna see you grow up through jail bars forever. After Gayton was freed and established his political party, the Patriotic Alliance, Calvin stepped up to take control of the family businesses. He has been at the helm, ever since. Of his decision to purchase the club, which they hope to bring to Bloemfontein, Gayton added: 'I agree fully with your purchase of SuperSport [United]. Because we both stood at the deathbed of my father and your grandad and we promised that we will always look after Siwelele. 'Siwelele is not a team, it's our Heritage, our culture, and part of our soul'. Gayton McKenzie has stayed mum about the identities of the six women who birthed his eight children, one of them being Calvin Le John. However, it is public knowledge that he wed lawyer, Nicolette Joubert, in 2003. This came after Nicolette was sent to investigate Gayton and others' allegations of corruption at the Grootvlei Prison involving prison gangs, warders, and inmates. The exposé became international news, and Gayton was named one of the 'Grootvlei Four.' The couple had two daughters together. A decade later, Gayton hinted that he had wronged his wife, whom he had since divorced. He tweeted: 'I hurt my ex-wife indescribably. But a bad word about me will never be heard by strangers or our kids, sheer class always.' Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1 .
