WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Today, Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW) named Senators Alex Padilla (D-Calif.) and Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) its June 2025 Porkers of the Month for wanting to continue to throw away billions of taxpayer dollars on California's failed high-speed rail project.
Sens. Padilla and Schiff have a long history of pouring federal taxpayer dollars into this massive boondoggle.

Since the project was approved in 2008, the CHSRA has been off track, wasting more than $11 billion for incomplete segments in the Central Valley that won't be done until 2030. Sens. Padilla and Schiff have a long history of pouring federal taxpayer dollars into this massive boondoggle. In 2024, they begged former Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg for $536 million in federal funds. In 2023, they supported $3.35 billion in grants for this failing project. Sens. Padilla and Schiff said in a joint statement that 'high-speed rail is the future of transportation.'
CAGW President Tom Schatz said, 'Sens. Padilla and Schiff are tricking taxpayers into thinking that California's high-speed rail project is going somewhere but it has always been far off track. The project was billed as fast, affordable, and transformative but it has been an epic failure of transparency, planning, management, and fiscal accountability. Sens. Padilla and Schiff do not care that it's the most expensive and wasteful high-speed rail project in the country. For continuing to guzzle taxpayer dollars for a train to nowhere, Sens. Schiff: ‘Too many unknowns' to claim ‘victory' in stopping Iran nuclear weapons
Sen. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) said it's 'premature' for anyone to be claiming that Iran will not try to continue its nuclear program in Friday comments on ABC News Live. 'The Iranian regime had not made a decision to build a bomb, was not pursuing the mechanism of a bomb, even though it was enriching uranium,' he said. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has been on the defensive this week and lashed out at a Fox reporter who asked where the enriched uranium was. Trump also called to fire CNN reporter Natasha Bertrand for her reporting on this preliminary report. Schiff is responding to Senate Intelligence Committee Chair Tom Cotton (R-Ark.), who claimed on June 22 that Trump's attacks 'severely damaged Iran's nuclear infrastructure.' There has not been solid proof yet that the strikes completely destroyed Iran's nuclear program or Iran's stockpiles of enriched uranium. On Friday, the House and Senate received a classified briefing, but Democrats still question the attacks' success. 'I would say that that particular briefing left me with more concerns and a true lack of clarity on how we are defining the mission and the success of it,' said Rep. Katherine Clark (D-Mass.). The administration has been adamant that the strikes were successful. Trump said he would consider bombing Iran again if new intelligence finds that the strikes did not destroy Iran's nuclear enrichment capacities.

Sen. Adam Schiff introduces bill to support LGBTQ+ people in starting families
U.S. Sen. Adam Schiff, a California Democrat, has introduced a bill to assure LGBTQ+ Americans equal access to assisted reproductive services. Keep up with the latest in + news and politics. Schiff's Equal Access to Reproductive Care Act, introduced Thursday, would classify these services, such as in vitro fertilization and surrogacy, as medical care for which expenses are tax-deductible under the Internal Revenue Act. Many LGBTQ+ taxpayers can't deduct these expenses under current law. The bill would mandate equal treatment for all seeking these services, regardless of regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, relationship status, or ability status. 'Assisted reproduction shall be treated as medical care of the taxpayer or the taxpayer's spouse or dependent to the extent that the taxpayer or the taxpayer's spouse or dependent, respectively, intends to take legal custody or responsibility for any children born as a result of such assisted reproduction,' the bill reads. 'Americans, including LGBTQ Americans, should have the freedom to start or expand a family without additional financial and systemic barriers that make it harder to afford reproductive health care services. This bill is crucial in correcting outdated tax laws in order to support LGBTQ individuals in family planning care,' Schiff said in a press release. The Los Angeles LGBT Center and the National Health Law Program praised the bill. 'The Los Angeles LGBT Center applauds Senator Schiff for championing the Equal Access to Reproductive Care Act,' Joey Espinoza-Hernandez, director of policy and community building at the center, said in the release.
