Jo Wood tackles drunk man as he accosts her daughter

Daily Mirror12-07-2025
Jo Wood, who has been boxing for years, reveals a scary encounter when out with her daughter - and how she stepped up to the plate in her defence when it happened
Jo Wood, who turned 70 in March, has opened up about an encounter which left her shaking with anger during a night out with her daughter Leah, 46. The model, TV personality and health entrepreneur, who has attended regular boxing classes for years, had an unexpected run-in with a drunk stranger - and no prizes for guessing who came off worse.
'Years ago, some drunk guy grabbed a hat off my daughter and I just took off and ran after him, grabbed the hat and tripped him over at the same time,' Jo recalls during an exclusive chat with OK!,. 'He fell on the floor. I said, 'Don't f**k with me and my daughter.' I was so furious. I wonder if I could do that now? Of course I could!'

Jo, who divorced from ex, Rolling Stones rocker Ronnie Wood in 2009, admits she's still got a mean right hook. 'I have actually,' she smiles. 'I've been doing it for years. I love it.'
And the multi-talented star packs a punch in more ways than one. As well as running successful businesses Jo Wood Organics and Longevity Wellness - and being a doting grandmum to 10, Jo has penned her debut novel - inspired to do so after going on a date.

The Resurrection Of Flo draws on the star's own fighting spirit, following her own experiences of heartbreak and divorce - and a call to arms for women, that divorce doesn't mean your life's over. 'It's a story really for women to be able to pick themselves up whatever age you are, even if you'd be 70 or 80, to pick yourself up and get back out there again,' Jo explains.
'I bumped into a girlfriend I hadn't seen for years, and she turned around to me and said she'd just split with her husband. She said, 'My life's over now.' I said, 'No, it's not. Are you crazy?' I was 53 when my husband walked out on me. I said, 'It's not over.'
The date with a man, which inspired her to write her book involved him opening up to her about the breakdown of his marriage. "I walked out of that restaurant and I walked down the road and I thought, 'That would make such a great story.' And that was it.'
From there, mum-of-three Jo — who as well as daughter Leah has sons Jamie, 50, and Tyrone, 41, laughs as she admits of her main character, 'She's not as silly as me, but she does make lots of mistakes like I have."

SAS Who Dares Wins' Jason Fox says there was one star he was 'concerned' about

Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins is set to return to Channel 4 with a star-studded line-up facing a number of gruelling challenges A fresh instalment of Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins is set to hit our screens imminently, with instructor Jason Fox disclosing which celebrity left him feeling most 'worried' about their involvement in the demanding Channel 4 programme. ‌ Renowned for its punishing trials and brutal living arrangements, SAS: Who Dares Wins has established itself as the ultimate examination of psychological, emotional and physical endurance, with precious few managing to see it through to the end. ‌ This year's edition, premiering on 3 August, features the participation of Chloe Burrows, Hannah Spearritt, Louie Spence, Bimini and Tasha Ghouri all accepting the gauntlet, reports OK!. ‌ Among the contestants is Michaella McCollum, recognised as half of the Peru Two duo. She and companion Melissa Reid were notably detained at Jorge Chávez International Airport, Lima, Peru, in 2013 on charges of drug trafficking. Both women completed sentences in a Peruvian jail. Michaella joined This Morning alongside Jason on Friday (1 August) to explore her choice to participate in the reality programme, marking her television debut. ‌ Jason, who features on the Channel 4 series as part of the directing staff with Rudy Reyes, Chris Oliver, and Billy Billingham, shared his apprehensions about Michaella's involvement. "I think obviously there's a level of resiliance there," he told hosts Dermot O'Leary and Olivia Attwood. "We were... not concerned, but we were wondering whether there would be a trigger there as well, though. "Because, obviously, we're cutting around screaming and shouting, restricting your ability to manoeuvre, you don't know what's going on from one minute to the next." ‌ Jason also shared the words of encouragement he offered Michaella during her stint on the course, reminding her that she'd endured "through worse" in one of the challenges. Michaella clarified that her participation in Celebrity SAS wasn't about altering public perception but was a personal endeavour. In other news, Jason disclosed that neither he nor his colleagues have any say in the casting process "at all". "No. So, we don't get involved in the casting at all. Normally, we'll try and find out who's on it, but they keep it pretty much under wraps. Then, we might get told the day before, we'll have a briefing on who they are," he revealed on This Morning.

Zoe Ball devastated after trying and failing to buy Harry Styles' sex toy

Zoe Ball has opened up about rediscovering her libido post-menopause – and the surprising role Harry Styles nearly played in her journey. The 54-year-old BBC Radio 2 presenter, who co-hosts the Dig It podcast with fellow broadcaster Jo Whiley, revealed that she was intrigued by Styles' latest venture: a sleek, double-ended vibrator launched through his lifestyle brand, Pleasing. The device, which dropped alongside a companion lubricant, sold out almost instantly – much to Zoe's dismay. 'And I tell you what, if I could have bought one, I would have bought one and I would have given you a full report, but sadly you can't buy them anymore!' she told Jo with a laugh. Zoe, who says she's always had 'lovely chats' with the famously gracious singer, praised Styles' business savvy and design eye. 'He's got this company, and they've brought out a sex toy—beautifully designed and very stylish, just like Harry himself. A friend of mine was disappointed it wasn't shaped like his face!' Her curiosity extended beyond her interest in the pop star. After years of dealing with menopausal symptoms and a significant dip in libido, Zoe says things have started to shift – and her younger friends encouraged her to get back in the game. 'They said, 'Zoe, you need to get yourself this,'' she recalled. 'And honestly, the world of sex toys has changed so much.' She and Jo shared a few laughs over how to dispose of outdated devices ('I didn't put them in a skip!' Zoe joked) and swapped tales of rogue toys flying out of knocked-over bins. But the conversation kept returning to Harry's unexpected foray into sexual wellness. 'So apparently, the pinky bit is for external play and then the other end for internal play, which is also the handle. I have to say, I think he is a smart boy, Zoe said. 'The byline is, 'Please yourself like you mean it,' which I love.' The products – The Pleasing Double-Sided Vibrator (£51) and The Pleasing Lube (£19) – were developed in collaboration with sex educator and author Zoe Ligon. Ligon told The Times that Styles was 'very behind' the concept, wanting to thoughtfully enter the sexual wellness space rather than simply slap his name on a product. More Trending Styles, who launched Pleasing in 2021 with nail polishes and skincare, has now expanded the brand with what fans are calling a bold and body-positive step. The launch was teased with a trio of cryptic ads – glass milk slams, vibrating phones, Morse code messages – before culminating in a video of Harry scribbling 'Please yourself like you mean it' on a diner bill. Though the move surprised some fans who were expecting a new music drop, Zoe Ball thinks he's struck gold. And if any listeners manage to get their hands on one of the elusive toys? Zoe and Jo want a full review. Got a story? Coronation Street Daniel actor's real-life romance with co-star leaves fans floored

Coronation Street viewers were left picking their jaws up off the floor as they realised that Daniel Osbourne star Rob Mallard is dating a well-known soap star Coronation Street viewers were stunned to discover that Rob Mallard, who portrays Daniel Osbourne, is in a relationship with a fellow soap star. ‌ Daniel, brought to life by Rob since 1995, has become an integral part of the show as Ken Barlow's (William Roache) son, entangled in numerous high-stakes plots. ‌ His Weatherfield journey has been anything but dull, marked by tumultuous love affairs, a near-fatal attack on his father, and the tragic loss of his wife Sinead Tinker (Katie McGlynn). ‌ Recently, Daniel's woes continued as he faced heartache when Daisy Midgeley (Charlotte Jordan) departed from the street after a five-year stint. ‌ However, it's Rob Mallard's off-screen romance that has left fans agape, as they learned he's dating a familiar face from the soap world, reports OK!. Earlier in the year, Rob's partner Matthew Martin made a cameo on the cobbles as a police officer who arrested Cassie Plummer (Claire Sweeney) in a nail-biting scene. ‌ Matthew took to Instagram in February to express his excitement about his role, posting a photo with Rob and praising him for his support. He captioned the post: "Ey mam! I'm on the telly box! Quite a surreal time being pulled in SUPER last minute to step in as a Policeman to arrest Cassie Plummer. All thanks to @mossy737 for giving me the opportunity to work on the iconic show that is @coronationstreet and of course my lad @ for being the biggest support and showing me the ropes." ‌ Fans were absolutely stunned after working out why Matthew looked so familiar to them. One viewer exclaimed: "I thought I recognised them well then! !" Another fan wrote: "Amazing and well done. How wonderful for Rob too. This is a great photo of you both!" A third added: "Bring you boyfriend to work day! amazing xx." In the past, Rob was romantically linked with fellow cast member Daniel Brocklebank, who portrays vicar Billy Mayhew on the cobbles. The soap actors were an item in 2017 and made their official public appearance as a couple at the British LGBT awards. Nevertheless, they parted ways just two months after confirming their romance publicly.
