Ambush on Texas ICE agents: 10 charged with attempted murder; 'not a peaceful protest', says US attorney
The US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents and other federal officers involved in immigration enforcement have come under attack in at least two ambush incidents recently in Texas, as per Fox News.
The US Justice Department on Monday announced charges against 10 individuals accused of shooting a police officer in the neck and firing at other correctional officers outside the Prairieland Detention Center in Alvarado, Texas, during a Fourth of July attack.
'Make no mistake, this was not a peaceful protest,' said Nancy Larson, acting US attorney for the Northern district of Texas. "This was an ambush on federal and local law enforcement officers,' she added, as reported by NBC.
In the attack, the group was dressed in all black, and reportedly started shooting fireworks at the facility which is used by the Department of Homeland Security to detain individuals engaged in immigration violations or awaiting deportation.
The complaint notes that the defendants were "dressed in black, military-style clothing," some were donning body armor, some were armed, and some carried two-way radios.

The individuals charged are Cameron Arnold, also known as Autumn Hill; Savannah Batten; Nathan Baumann; Zachary Evetts; Joy Gibson; Bradford Morris, also known as Meagan Morris; Maricela Rueda; Seth Sikes; Elizabeth Soto; and Ines Soto. Three of the perpetrators are each charged with three counts of attempted murder of a federal officer and with three charges of firing a weapon during, in connection with and in support of a violent crime.
Roughly 10 minutes after gathering at the ICE facility, one or two individuals separated from the main group and began spraying graffiti on vehicles and a guard post in the parking lot, as per the authorities. Photographs included in the criminal complaint, filed in the Northern District of Texas show messages like 'ICE pig' scrawled on the vehicles. Correctional officers informed 911, prompting a response from an Alvarado police officer.
As the officer got out of his vehicle, a suspect hiding in the nearby woods allegedly shot him in the neck, the complaint states Another attacker, wearing a green mask and positioned across the street then allegedly fired 20 to 30 rounds at correctional officers who were unarmed, as they came outside.
The group fled the scene, and sheriff's deputies stopped seven individuals roughly 274 meters from where the officer was shot, as reported by AP.
"The shooting was captured by both CCTV and the APD officer's body-worn camera," the complaint says, as reported by FOX news.
'There was an AR-style rifle found at the scene' that was jammed, said Nancy Larson.
Law enforcement also found a flag that read, 'RESIST FASCISM-FIGHT OLIGARCHY' while flyers stating , "FIGHT ICE TERROR WITH CLASS WAR!" and "FREE ALL POLITICAL PRISONERS," were also found along with spray paint and magazines with ammunition.
'It was a planned ambush with the intent to kill ICE corrections officers,' said Nancy Larson, as reported by AP.
The shooting happened three days before another incident on Monday, when a man with an assault rifle opened fire at federal agents and a US Border Patrol facility in McAllen, about 643 kilometers south, injuring a police officer before being shot and killed by authorities, as reported by AP.
The attacker is identified as 27-year-old Ryan Louis Mosqueda.
On the fourth of July, four other suspects were arrested for allegedly targeting an ICE facility in Portland Oregon. The accused are Jeremy Andrew Hummel, Andrew Lee Wyatt Marcum, Riley Freeman and Ian Joseph McCarthy.
Freeman, Marcum, and McCarthy appeared in federal court on Monday and were released pending further legal proceedings, according to KATU.
Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche said Saturday that the Justice Department was "closely monitoring the attacks on DHS detention facilities in Prairieland, TX, and Portland, OR, and are coordinating with the USAOs and our law enforcement partners."
Since June, nearly two dozen people have been arrested in association with protests and attacks taking place in an ICE facility in Portland. The shooting comes amid US president Donald Trump ramping up deportations, which are set to accelerate further following the passage of a major spending bill last week.

Delhi HC directs Udaipur Files screening for petitioners
NEW DELHI: The Delhi high court on Wednesday directed the producer of 'Udaipur Files', a movie based on tailor Kanhaiya Lal murder case, to arrange a screening of the film for those opposed to its release. The HC's direction came after the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and the makers of the movie claimed that "objectionable" portions had been removed from the film, and there was no ground to stall its release. The petitions claimed that the movie had the potential to inflame communal tensions and disrupt public order in the country. A division bench of Chief Justice D K Upadhyaya and Justice Anish Dayal directed the producers to arrange the screening on Wednesday itself for senior advocate Kapil Sibal, representing the petitioners, including Maulana Arshad Madani, Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind president and principal of Darul Uloom, Deoband. The bench asked the petitioners to view the censored version and come back to the court on Thursday. Earlier, Sibal argued that while free speech is protected, "the film's intent appears to fuel communal disharmony". ASG Chetan Sharma, appearing for I&B ministry and CBFC, responded that the censor board had already removed the flagged content. Sibal, however, maintained that the movie's "overall tone remains problematic", and the entire purpose appeared to be to target an entire community. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Gold Is Surging in 2025 — Smart Traders Are Already In IC Markets Learn More Undo The petitioners said while Lal was murdered by two fanatics, the movie's trailer, released on June 26, "falsely" showed the crime being carried out with the complicity of religious heads/leaders of the community. The producer informed the court that the trailer had been removed, but Sibal responded that the damage was already done. The petitioners also claimed that the film violated constitutional morality by weaponising the freedom of expression to weaken the constitutional vision of a plural, inclusive and secular India, and instead attempted to mainstream narratives that would deepen social and religious divisions. 1 2 Kolkata: A complaint of harassment and attempted molestation was reported from the Patuli area on EM Bypass where 16-year-old girl from Bansdroni and two of her friends alleged three men threatened and verbally abused them on the Pauli overbridge on Tuesday. The authorities have urged anyone with information about the incident or the whereabouts of the suspects to contact the local police station. "We will appeal to court so that the statements of the girls can be recorded before a magistrate. We are also trying to contact independent witnesses," said an officer.

Why no probe against theft complainant: Seeman
Madurai: Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) leader Seeman on Wednesday evening led a protest at Thiruppuvanam in Sivaganga condemning the custodial death of temple security guard B Ajith Kumar. He demanded to know why no action or investigation had been initiated against J P Nikitha, the complainant in the gold jewellery theft case in which Ajith was interrogated as a suspect and later died. Seeman paid tribute to Ajith's portrait at his home and met his mother B Malathy and brother B Naveen Kumar. "It has come to light that there have been numerous fraud complaints and pending cases against Nikitha. The tainted policemen's wives have said that they only followed their higher officials. Why are they not being investigated," he asked. He wanted to know whether the gold jewellery as given in the complaint by Nikitha has been recovered. "Getting permission for a protest by NTK comes with such a huge process and hurdles whereas no procedures were followed when Ajith was questioned," he said. Seeman claimed that the transfer of the case to CBI shows the fear of chief minister M K Stalin. "It is merely an attempt to delay things. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 月 *만원대 '실비보험' 최적가 비교추천! Earlier, Seeman met with the families of undertrial Muslim prisoners 'Police' Fakrudeen, Bilal Malik, and Panna Ismail, involved in the murder of a milk vendor in Madurai in 2013. He condemned the DMK govt for not fulfilling its election promise of early release of eligible undertrial Muslim prisoners. Noting that Fakrudeen, Malik, and Ismail are being lodged in prison for years without being proven guilty, he said NTK will hold a protest in Madurai in Aug, demanding their early release. He also inspected arrangements for the cattle conference to be held in Madurai on Thursday.
