Madhya Pradesh Cop Dies By Suicide, Alleges Harassment By Police And Sand Mafia
The 51-year-old officer, Pramod Pavan, was found hanging in his official quarters inside the police station premises, said officials.
An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) posted at Godan police station in Madhya Pradesh's Datia district died by suicide after accusing his seniors and a sand mafia of mental harassment.
The 51-year-old officer, Pramod Pavan, was found hanging in his official quarters inside the police station premises, said officials.
Before his death, ASI Pavan recorded and shared multiple videos, alleging mental harassment by senior colleagues and links between local police personnel and illegal gambling and sand mining operations.
He also alleged caste-based discrimination and threats to his life.
In the videos, ASI Pavan named Godan police station in-charge Arvind Singh Bhadauria, constable-driver Roop Narayan Yadav, and Tharet police station in-charge Anfasul Hasan, accusing them of mentally harassing him after he intercepted a tractor allegedly transporting illegally mined sand.
'I have been confined to the station, denied basic tasks like updating my ID documents, and subjected to casteist slurs. I've been threatened with death," he said in one video.
He also claimed that the illegal activities of sand mafia member Babloo Yadav continued with police protection.
Another video alleged that gambling operations were openly run in the area with the support of local police. Pavan claimed these dens were linked to several violent crimes, including the 2024 murder of Narendra Yadav.
'If call records of Constable Roop Narayan Yadav are investigated, key links to such crimes will emerge," he said.
Superintendent of Police Datia, Suraj Verma, confirmed the death and said a transparent probe has been initiated into the case.
'Given the seriousness of the allegations in the videos, the Deputy SP (AJK) has been directed to conduct a thorough investigation. Meanwhile, the officer in charge of Godan police station has been removed from his post and attached to police lines to ensure fairness."
The incident highlights ongoing concerns around illegal sand mining in the Gwalior-Chambal region, where several officials have previously lost their lives in confrontations with the mining mafia.
In past incidents, a deputy forest ranger and an IPS officer were killed in similar circumstances while acting against illegal mining.

‘Cat Meat Tastes Better Than Human': Kerala Man's Grisly Instagram Story Triggers Probe
Last Updated: A video of Shajeer, a lorry driver from Cherpulassery, killing a cat and sharing it on Instagram has sparked outrage in Kerala. Police are investigating and trying to locate him. A disturbing video of a man killing a cat and sharing the footage on Instagram has triggered outrage in Kerala, prompting a police investigation. The accused has been identified as Shajeer, a lorry driver from Cherpulassery in Palakkad district. The video, posted as an Instagram Story from the account 'Shajeer_Tool', first showed the cat being fed. What followed was far more horrifying as another clip showing the cat's head and body parts separated was uploaded. As the footage circulated on social media, users flagged it to the police. Cherpulassery police have launched a probe and are verifying the authenticity of the video. Preliminary findings suggest Shajeer is currently in Tamil Nadu. The police are trying to trace his exact location. According to Kerala Kaumudi, when questioned informally about the act, Shajeer allegedly said, 'Cat meat tastes better than human meat." Authorities are still trying to establish where the video was filmed. The incident has sparked widespread condemnation. Under Section 325 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, killing or maiming an animal is a punishable offence. The new law, part of the overhaul that replaced the Indian Penal Code, clearly states that anyone who kills, poisons, or renders an animal useless can face up to five years in jail, a fine, or both. The act may also attract charges under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, which lays down additional penalties for causing unnecessary pain or suffering to animals. While extreme cases of consuming pets are rare in India, this is not an isolated incident. In Chennai, residents in July 2025 sounded the alarm over a group of youths from the Narikorava community allegedly trapping and killing residential cats for meat, later selling it to roadside eateries as chicken or mutton biryani, according to a report by the Times Of India. Pet owners across areas like Tiruvottiyur and Ambattur complained of missing cats, calling for urgent police action. view comments First Published: August 04, 2025, 22:09 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. 'It was alleged earlier that the sword had been stolen, which is not true. The sword was used earlier in a ritual by Ganeshwar Dravid Shastri of Varanasi in June. The sword has been handed over to the head of Wakojibuwa mutt for performing daily rituals on the sword," the temple trust stated in a release. Some priests of the Tuljabhavani temple on Saturday alleged that the sword of the goddess had gone missing. The ancient Shree Tulaja Bhavani Temple is considered one of the 51 Shakti Pithas located on the banks of the Mandakini River in Dharashiv district of Maharashtra. The goddess is considered the 'kuldevi" (clan deity) of several Maratha families. view comments First Published: August 04, 2025, 21:30 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Defence Ministry Debunks ‘Fake' Viral Report On Pahalgam Terrorists' Identities
Last Updated: Three terrorists, who were involved in the Pahalgam terror attack, were killed in an encounter code-named 'Operation Mahadev' on the outskirts of Srinagar The Ministry of Defence on Monday clarified that no report on the identities and background of the Pahalgam attackers has been prepared by the Indian armed forces. The defence ministry's statement came after some social media accounts put out a report on the 'Identities and Background of the Pahalgam Attackers." The ministry said the report appears to be a compilation of information on post-encounter findings, collated from open sources. 'A report on identities and background of the Pahalgam attackers is being circulated through media/social media handles and attributed to the Services. No authorised media handle of the Indian Armed Forces has prepared or issued any such document. Neither have any remarks of this nature been made by the Armed Forces Public Relations Offices/nominated spokespersons," read the statement. Last week, three terrorists, who were involved in the Pahalgam terror attack, were killed in an encounter code-named 'Operation Mahadev' on the outskirts of Srinagar. The three senior Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commanders had been hiding in the Dachigam-Harwan forest belt since the April 22 attack, news agency PTI reported, citing officials. The terror attack in Pahalgam's Baisaran meadow had claimed 26 lives, mainly tourists. The slain terrorists were identified as Suleman Shah alias 'Faizal Jatt", an A++ category terrorist, mastermind and lead shooter; his close associate Abu Hamza alias 'Afghan', an A-grade commander and the second gunman; and Yasir alias 'Jibran', also an A-grade commander and the third gunman, the officials said. The evidence collected by security agencies leaves no doubt about the terrorists' nationality, with Union Home Minister Amit Shah detailing key findings in Parliament. Forensic, documentary and testimonial evidence collected during and after 'Operation Mahadev' conclusively shows that all three attackers were Pakistani nationals and hardcore terrorists of the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba who had been hiding in the Dachigam-Harwan forest belt since the day of the attack. Biometric records of Pakistan's National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), voter identity slips and digital satellite phone data, including logs and GPS waypoints, are among the evidence gathered by the security agencies confirming the Pakistani nationality of the three terrorists, the officials said. The terrorists crossed the Line of Control (LoC) through north Kashmir's Gurez sector in May 2022, when the intelligence intercepts placed their radio check-in from the Pakistani side, the officials said. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
