Sword of goddess Tuljabhavani safe, says temple trust
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Aug 4 (PTI) Shri Tuljabhawani Temple Sansthan has clarified that the sword of the goddess is safe and not stolen as alleged by some priests last week.
'It was alleged earlier that the sword had been stolen, which is not true. The sword was used earlier in a ritual by Ganeshwar Dravid Shastri of Varanasi in June. The sword has been handed over to the head of Wakojibuwa mutt for performing daily rituals on the sword," the temple trust stated in a release.
Some priests of the Tuljabhavani temple on Saturday alleged that the sword of the goddess had gone missing.
The ancient Shree Tulaja Bhavani Temple is considered one of the 51 Shakti Pithas located on the banks of the Mandakini River in Dharashiv district of Maharashtra.
The goddess is considered the 'kuldevi" (clan deity) of several Maratha families.

Nancy Mace Launches 2026 Gubernatorial Bid In South Carolina With Bold Agenda
The 2026 Republican primary for governor is shaping up to be highly competitive. Republican Congresswoman Nancy Mace officially announced her candidacy for governor of South Carolina on Monday, entering the 2026 race with a fiery speech and an ambitious 10-point agenda. Speaking before a crowd of supporters, Mace declared that her campaign would offer a 'roadmap to rebuild South Carolina from the ground up," vowing to bring bold leadership and reform to the Palmetto State. 'South Carolina is tired of politicians who smile for the cameras, lie to your face, and then vanish when it's time to lead," Mace said during her campaign launch, as reported by CNN, adding, 'I'm running for governor because South Carolina doesn't need another empty suit." Mace, currently serving her third term in the US House of Representatives, laid out a wide-ranging agenda in an interview with the Associated Press. Her priorities include overhauling the criminal justice system, eliminating the state's income tax, and expanding protections for women and children. Education reform also features prominently, with Mace pushing for greater school choice and an expansion of vocational training options. A notable element of her campaign announcement video included footage of President Donald Trump praising her as a 'fighter," a nod to their evolving political relationship. Once a vocal critic of Trump, particularly in the aftermath of the January 6 Capitol riot, Mace has since become one of his allies, endorsing him during the 2024 GOP primaries. Mace has also positioned herself as a staunch advocate for women's rights. In a May congressional hearing on non-consensual recordings, she revealed a naked silhouette image allegedly taken without her consent by her ex-fiancé. Simultaneously, she has taken conservative stances on other gender-related policies, including support for banning transgender women from using women's restrooms at the Capitol. The 2026 Republican primary for governor is shaping up to be highly competitive. Mace will face several prominent GOP figures, including Attorney General Alan Wilson, Lieutenant Governor Pamela Evette, state Senator Josh Kimbrell, and US Rep. Ralph Norman. Governor Henry McMaster, a Republican, is term-limited and will not seek reelection. Mace has already taken aim at Wilson, accusing him of neglecting his duty to protect women and children. In February, she publicly claimed that Wilson ignored evidence of sexual misconduct involving her ex-fiancé and other men, alleging a broader failure of accountability. Two Killed, Six Wounded In LA After-Party Shooting; Police Investigation Underway
The identities of the deceased have not yet been fully released by police. Two people were killed and six others left injured in a shooting that occurred during an after-party in downtown Los Angeles overnight on Sunday. According to KTLA, the Los Angeles Police Department stated that the incident took place around 1 am on August 4. Authorities confirmed that the gunfire broke out near 14th Place and Griffith Avenue, an area reportedly hosting multiple parties at the time. Police had already patrolled the location earlier in the evening, around 11 pm, after observing an individual entering an unauthorised gathering. The LAPD said they cleared out the event, which had more than 50 people present. During that sweep, one attendee was arrested for carrying a firearm. Despite this intervention, officers were called back to the same venue following a radio alert about shots being fired. When they arrived, they found that eight individuals had been struck by gunfire. Two victims succumbed to their injuries, while six others were left wounded. One of the surviving victims is in critical condition, according to an LAPD spokesperson speaking with KTLA 5. 'It was pretty clear and loud… You knew that if those bullets landed in somebody, that they weren't walking away from the situation," said local resident Tyrone Laney in an interview with the Los Angeles Times. The identities of the deceased have not yet been fully released by police. However, officials confirmed that the victims included a man and a 52-year-old woman. One died at the scene, while the other was pronounced dead after being transported to the hospital. Some of the injured victims were admitted to California Hospital Medical Center for treatment. One of the victims has been identified as 29-year-old Gregory Derisso, according to his father, Judner Derisso. He described Gregory as a dedicated music producer and the father of three young children, all under the age of five. As reported by the Los Angeles Times, the party was promoted online as an 'unofficial after-party" for the Hard Summer festival and featured house and techno music. An Instagram post advertising the event reportedly listed the names of DJs scheduled to perform. No arrests have been made so far. Investigators are still working to determine a motive for the shooting. Get breaking news, in-depth analysis, and expert perspectives on everything from geopolitics to diplomacy and global trends.
