My50 pass goes digital via TNG eWallet from July 1
KUALA LUMPUR: The My50 unlimited travel pass will transition to a digital renewal system via the Touch 'n Go (TNG) eWallet app starting July 1, Transport Minister Anthony Loke announced today.
The new digital process allows users to renew their monthly passes using an NFC-enabled TNG card, removing the need for physical MyKad verification or queuing at Rapid KL counters. Loke highlighted that the current manual renewal system takes approximately three minutes per customer, often leading to long queues at busy stations.
'Users can verify their Malaysian citizenship through the e-KYC feature in the TNG eWallet app and renew their My50 pass seamlessly. No MyKad is required,' he said during the My50 Pass Digitalisation Briefing and Launch at KL Sentral LRT Station.
The digitalisation project, developed at a cost of RM2.75 million over six months, aims to streamline the renewal process. While counter renewals with MyKad remain an option, the eWallet method is expected to reduce congestion significantly.
'TNG was selected due to its extensive payment network and existing e-KYC infrastructure, which covers over 24 million Malaysians,' Loke added.
By year-end, the TNG eWallet will introduce a feature enabling users to track their My50 usage and monthly savings, aiding financial planning. The initiative will also extend to other travel passes, including MyCity and MyTourist, as part of broader efforts to digitalise public transport services.
Loke emphasised that seamless ticketing systems are crucial for delivering efficient public transport, aligning with Kuala Lumpur's 2040 urban mobility goals. He encouraged operators to adopt emerging technologies like AI to enhance user convenience.

Settle summonses or face enforcement, RTD warns commercial operators
KOTA BARU: The Road Transport Department (RTD) says it will act against express buses and commercial goods vehicles that fail to settle outstanding summonses within the 14-day deadline. RTD director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli said the deadline will end on July 8, after which enforcement will follow. He said the vehicles will be blacklisted and barred from the roads if payment is not made before the deadline. "We guarantee that by midnight on the final day, RTD officers will be on the roads to act against the vehicles found to have unsettled summonses. We are fully prepared for this. "Since the announcement by Transport Minister Anthony Loke last Friday, company operators have been rushing to pay their summonses. "If any company feels the number of summonses issued does not match their records, they are welcome to visit the nearest RTD office for verification. "They may even find that they have more summonses upon further checks," he said. He was speaking at a press conference after attending the RTD's Setia Assembly here today. Also present was RTD senior enforcement director Muhammad Kifli Ma Hassan.

Rapid KL On-Demand services can be booked through the Rapid On-Demand phone application from 6am to 11.30pm. PETALING JAYA : The Rapid KL On-Demand van service will be expanded to the Kuala Lumpur central business district (CBD) as well as education corridors in the Klang Valley from June 30. Its operator, Rapid Bus Sdn Bhd, said the expansion, involving four high-traffic zones, was a strategic step to facilitate urban mobility. In the CBD, nine vans will serve Kuala Lumpur's golden triangle of Jalan Imbi, Jalan Sultan Ismail, and Jalan Raja Chulan. Three vans will ply the route of the Gombak LRT station to Taman Selaseh or International Islamic University Malaysia. The two other routes are Universiti Putra Malaysia MRT station–IOI City mall and Kelana Jaya LRT station–Taman SEA/Damansara Jaya, with two vans allocated to each. 'The introduction of these new zones proves our commitment to providing a public transport system that's not only inclusive but also responsive to the needs of commuters,' said Prasarana Malaysia Bhd chief operating officer Amir Hamdan. Rapid KL On-Demand services can be booked via the Rapid On-Demand phone application from 6am to 11.30pm at a promotional price of RM1 per trip.

Rapid KL on-demand service expands to four new zones including city centre
KUALA LUMPUR: Rapid Bus Sdn Bhd (Rapid Bus) will launch four new zones for its Rapid KL On-Demand service starting Monday, targeting high-traffic areas in the federal capital and key educational corridors as a strategic move to enhance urban mobility. In a statement today, Rapid Bus said the new zones are the Kuala Lumpur Central Business District (CBD), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) MRT-IOI City Mall, Kelana Jaya LRT-Taman SEA/Damansara Jaya and Gombak LRT-Taman Selaseh/International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). "One of the main zones introduced is the CBD zone, covering the Golden Triangle area, namely Jalan Imbi, Jalan Sultan Ismail and Jalan Raja Chulan, which will be served by nine vans," it said. The service expansion aims to provide a smoother and more responsive last-mile connection for commuters travelling from rail stations or major bus stops to their final destinations in the city centre. "With heavy traffic congestion and limited parking in the CBD, this service offers a user-friendly micro-mobility solution and supports efforts to transform Kuala Lumpur into a transit-oriented city," the statement added. Beyond the city centre, the service is also being extended to educational corridors such as UPM, IIUM and nearby schools to facilitate safer, more organised and flexible access for students, lecturers and staff. Prasarana Malaysia Bhd group chief operating officer (Operations) Amir Hamdan said the introduction of the new zones reflects the company's commitment to building a public transport system that is not only inclusive but also responsive to user needs. "Our city centre zone is designed to tackle the 'first/last-mile' issues faced by commuters in the country's busiest areas, while the education zones focus on the daily commuting needs of students and academic personnel. "This marks the second-last rollout before the full deployment of all 300 Rapid KL On-Demand vans by early July 2025, representing another milestone towards a more sustainable and comprehensive public transport system," he said. The Rapid KL On-Demand service guarantees a reserved seat and operates daily from 6am to 11.30pm via the Rapid On-Demand app, available for free on Google Play Store and Apple App Store. The promotional fare of RM1 per trip remains in place. Payments can be made using Touch 'n Go cards, MyRapid Concession Cards, the OKU Smile Travel Pass, and unlimited travel passes such as My50, MyCity and the Family Pass.
