She expressed happiness at taking charge as the Joint Collector of an important district.

Collector expresses concern over growing number of school dropouts in Chittoor
District Collector Sumit Kumar expressed concern over the growing number of school dropouts despite the introduction of welfare benefits such as free books, uniforms, footwear, and even the Thalliki Vandanam scheme by the State government. 'Several children continue to leave schools and this malady should be addressed immediately,' he said. The Collector was addressing a review meeting with mandal education officers (MEOs) and cluster headmasters at the Collectorate here on Thursday. Sumit Kumar highlighted the imminent need to transform Chittoor into a district with zero dropouts and excellent academic standards. 'As many as 4,447 dropouts were identified this year. School headmasters must visit each child's home, offer a patient hearing to their challenges, and get them back to the classrooms,' he said. He also directed the teachers to 'adopt' dropout students, visit their homes at least five times, counsel the parents, and explain the benefits of education. 'The staff entrusted with the duty of bringing back school dropouts should track the students who studied in 2023-24 and 2024-25 academic year, and confirm they are continuing their studies in 2025–26. Those missing from the classrooms must be re‑enrolled,' Sumit Kumar said. 'Teachers of government schools are capable of imparting quality education to the students. They also hold the potential to address the learning gaps among their students,' he said, adding that this phenomenon helped the government schools in Chittoor district post remarkable improvement in the Class 10 results this year.

Thanjavur officials convince family, help Class 12 girl join college under Naan Mudhalvan scheme
A Class 12 student from a fishing community, who chose to support her family, was persuaded to join college at a special grievance redress and guidance session held under the Naan Mudhalvan scheme in Thanjavur on Wednesday. The meeting, part of the initiative's fourth phase, was chaired by District Collector P. Priyanka Pankajam at the Collectorate. The programme, which began on June 9, is aimed at supporting students from disadvantaged backgrounds to pursue higher education and career opportunities. During the session, K. Lavanya, a student of Adirampattinam Government Girls Higher Secondary School, became the focus of attention. Despite scoring 415 marks in the Class 12 board examinations, she was asked to take up work to support her family's income. Her school teacher Jepar Kavi, along with Chief Educational Officer Madhavan and school mentors, intervened in the matter. They met the family members and persuaded them to support Lavanya's educational aspirations. Within a brief time, Lavanya was admitted to course at an Arts and Science College, close to her residence.

Collector reviews arrangements for Aadi Amavasai at Memalayanur temple
District Collector Sheik Abdul Rahman reviewed the arrangements being made for the 'Aadi Ammavasai' festival at the Melmalayanur Angalamman temple. Chairing a meeting at the Collectorate on Monday, Mr. Rahman reviewed the arrangements being put in place for ensuring public transport, drinking water supply, medical support and other amenities for the benefit of the devotees. The Collector said that entry of heavy vehicles would be restricted on Thursday. Sanitary workers would be deployed in adequate numbers to ensure cleaning operations round-the-clock. Elaborate security arrangements have been made to regulate the crowd and CCTVs have been installed in addition to the control room, he added. Officials from the departments of Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR and CE), Transport, Rural Development, Health and Family Welfare and senior officers from the Police department participated.
