Chappell Roan Says Her New Album Could Be Half A Decade Away

Forbes8 hours ago
Chappell Roan isn't in any rush to follow up her Grammy‑winning debut album. Even as her latest single 'The Subway' generates plenty of excitement, the singer‑songwriter had made it clear in a new interview that her second album is still a long way off. For fans eager for a follow-up to the set that made her a star, the news may be disappointing, but Roan appears committed to taking her time.
Chappell Roan Says Her Second Album Isn't Ready
While some listeners see 'The Subway' as a sign that a larger project could be on the way, Roan insists otherwise. 'The second project doesn't exist,' the superstar told Vogue during a recent piece.
Roan revealed out that it took her five years to finish her debut album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, and she expects a similar timeline for its follow‑up.
'I'm not that type of writer that can pump it out,' she explained. 'I don't think I make good music whenever I force myself to do anything.' Her approach contrasts sharply with the rapid‑fire release schedules of many top stars today, but she's never been one to follow the crowd.
'The Subway' Keeps Fans Listening
Even without an album on the horizon, Roan is still delivering music that connects with a large crowd. 'The Subway' has already gained traction internationally since arriving only a few days ago, and it is expected to impact charts in several countries very soon. The tune could even bring her back to the top 10 on the Hot 100 if it continues to perform well.
The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess
Released in September 2023, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess introduced Roan as one of pop's most distinctive new voices. The project's insanely catchy pop anthems and introspective ballads earned her widespread critical praise, and its slow‑burn success helped her win the Grammy for Best New Artist.
The set, and several of its singles, continue to live on charts in a number of countries, so Roan may feel she still has time before fans are really ready for another full-length.
Standalone Singles Continue to Showcase Her Range
Since her debut album dropped, Roan has released three singles not included on the project cycle: 'Good Luck, Babe!,' 'The Giver,' and 'The Subway.' The first of that bunch remains her most famous tune, and the one that helped her break out in a major way – even though it followed a proper full-length.

Scarlett Johansson and Adam Driver Fighting in ‘Marriage Story' Is Being Used by the USDA to Scare Off Wolves and Save Cattle: ‘They Need to Know Humans Are Bad'

A new report from The Wall Street Journal reveals that audio of Scarlett Johansson and Adam Driver screaming at each other in Noah Baumbach's 'Marriage Story' is being used by the United States Department of Agriculture to scare off wolves from killing cattle and scaring livestock on farms across the America. The fight scene is the most emotionally volatile moment in Baumbach's 2019 drama, which earned both Johansson and Driver Oscar nominations. Per the WSJ: 'Riding to the rescue are drone cowhands, whose quadcopters have thermal cameras that can reveal any wolf lurking in the darkness and bathe it in a spotlight. A loudspeaker broadcasts alarming sounds like fireworks, gunshots and people arguing. One recording is of the fight between Scarlett Johansson and Adam Driver in the movie 'Marriage Story.'' 'Wolf hazing,' as the practice is called, also uses loud music like AC/DC's 'Thunderstruck' to scare off deadly wolves. The USDA has relied on drones because gray wolves had long been on the federal government's list of endangered species. The process seems to be working. As the WSJ reported: 'Drones were deployed in the Klamath Basin of southern Oregon after 11 cows were killed by wolves there in a 20-day period. Over the next 85 days when drones were on patrol, only two were killed.' 'Marriage Story' stars Johansson and Driver as a couple going through a bitter divorce and custody battle over their son. The movie earned critical acclaim after premiering at the 2019 Venice Film Festival. Variety's Owen Gleiberman named 'Marriage Story' the second best movie of 2019. 'Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson, in spectacular performances that work together with searing intimacy, enact the anger, pride, despair, and passion of a couple who tear their relationship apart, and their souls too, even as they both struggle to remain whole inside,' Gleiberman wrote. ''Marriage Story' tells the story of divorce in our time, and in doing so it earns a place next to those harrowing and heartrending texts of separation, 'Kramer vs. Kramer' and 'Scenes from a Marriage.'' Netflix Makes 'Rare' Decision to Cancel Beloved Show Featuring Hollywood Legend

On Friday, Aug. 1, Netflix reportedly called it quits on an action-comedy featuring one of the biggest action stars in Hollywood history: Arnold Schwarzenegger. The decision to cancel the series came just a few weeks after the release of Season 2 struggled to bring the same success as Season 1. Fubar centers on a CIA operative played by the legendary Scharzenegger who is on the verge of retirement who discovers a family secret and is forced to go back into the field for one last job. Why Did Netflix Cancel Schwarzenegger's Show? Netflix made the decision not to renew Fubar for a third season after the show's second season suffered what Deadline called a "surprisingly soft return" for the series that brought the stardom of Schwarzenegger combined with the acting prowess of Monica Barbero, who picked up an Oscar-nomination in between seasons 1 and 2 for her work on A Complete Unknown. "With Season 2 released more than two years after Season 1 dropped, Fubar barely made Netflix's Top 10 for English-language series in its first week, landing in the last spot with 2.2M views from Thursday through Sunday, down from about 11M views for the show's Season 1 premiere weekend," Deadline wrote. "Season 2 peaked at #7 in its first full week with 3.3M views and logged one more #10 finish in Week 3 with 1.8M views before dropping out of the Top 10." It's a 'Rare' Move From Netflix Deadline called it a "rare" move from Netflix, which has opted to renew 20 scripted series like Untamed for Season 2, Shane Gillis' comedy Tires for Season 3 and romantic dramas Ransom Canyon for Season 2 and Virgin River for Season 8. Fubar became just one of a handful of shows canceled by Netflix so far this year joining The Recruit, Pulse and The Makes 'Rare' Decision to Cancel Beloved Show Featuring Hollywood Legend first appeared on Men's Journal on Aug 2, 2025 Solve the daily Crossword
