Bihar electoral roll revision: 1 lakh electors untraceable, says EC
It said 20 lakh electors have been reported 'deceased" so far and 28 lakh have been found to have permanently shifted from their present addresses.
The poll authority noted that 15 lakh electors' enumeration forms have not been returned to local poll officials.
On August 1, on the completion of the first phase of the SIR, the draft electoral roll will be published.
If there is any error in the draft poll roll, any elector or political party can file an objection regarding the inclusion of the name of any proposed elector with the concerned electoral registration officer of that assembly constituency by September 1.
Similarly, if any eligible person does not find their name in the draft roll, they can file their claims up to September 1, the EC noted. PTI NAB DIV DIV

Lucknow: To renew its "resolve to protect the reservation system enshrined in Indian Constitution", the Samajwadi Party functionaries on Saturday assembled in large numbers across the state to observe July 26 as the Samvidhan Mansthambh Divas. He said Samvidhan Mansthambh Divas encapsulates the spirit of PDA Prakashsthamb which is about lighting up the path for the Pichhde (backward classes) Dalits and Alpsankhyaks (minorities) to reclaims their rights as enshrined in the Constitution and which they were being deprived of by the BJP in a systematic manner. SP MP from Azamgarh Dharmendra Yadav, who was the chief guest of the Samvidhan Mansthambh Divas event held in Jaunpur, called upon the PDA community to come forward to help save the Constitution and protect reservation. In Mainpuri, SP MLA from Karhal Tej Pratap Yadav chaired the event and urged the "oppressed sections of the society" to rise and voice their concerns by dislodging the BJP from the government. Senior party functionary Rajpal Kashyap, who chaired one of the most largely attended event of the day held in Shahjahanpur, underlined the evolution of PDA since the run-up to the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. ‘Poll panel has no mandate to do citizenship checks'
Kolkata: TMC MP Sushmita Dev on Saturday called EC's special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls an "overstepping of its mandate". In a Facebook post, Dev said, "EC has all powers to review the electoral rolls. We have no issue with that. Our point is that EC cannot overstep its mandate and start doing citizenship checks, which is the Union home ministry's job. Check the SIR requirements. SIR demands birth certificates and parents' documents, directly mirroring Section 3 of the Citizenship Act," she said. "This is precisely what is being asked in NRC, an exercise being done in Assam for the past six years. Why is the EC then doing this exercise?" Dev asked.
