Edgewater woman charged with animal cruelty after 7 dead animals found in home
A woman believed to have abandoned her pets for almost a year was arrested June 27 on charges of aggravated animal cruelty after Edgewater Police found seven dead animals at her home. According to police, Danielle McGinnis, 57, vacated her property on Pine Tree Drive for nearly one year, during which time a "long-standing civil dispute" impeded access to the house. But stakeholders, including McGinnis and six others, were just allowed access back into the home when officers received a call about possible animal cruelty, according to a press release. When officers arrived at the property, they discovered "deplorable living conditions, including widespread animal feces and severe disrepair, rendering the property uninhabitable," the release stated. Animal cruelty laws: DeSantis signs Dexter's Law, championed by local animal rights activists In addition, officers found the remains of two dogs, two cats and three birds all in "advanced stages of decomposition." Police said there were "no signs of food or water available for the animals," which led investigators to believe the pets died from "prolonged starvation and dehydration." Police sent an alert on social media later that night asking the public to help locate McGinnis. She was later found in Daytona Beach, where police interviewed her. "During the interview, (McGinnis) admitted to leaving the animals inside the home when she moved out a year ago," the press release said. "She claimed to have asked a 'friend' to look after the animals, but could not provide a name or contact information." McGinnis also admitted to not following up on the animals' well-being, police said. Edgewater Animal Control services removed the animals' remains from the house and handled the "appropriate final disposition," police said. McGinnis is charged with seven counts of aggravated animal cruelty resulting in death, a felony charge. She is being held at the Volusia County Branch Jail on $70,000 bond. Prayers Pouring In After College Student Found Dead In Dorm Room originally appeared on The Spun. It was sadly announced this week that Maniishapriet Kaur Akhara, a college student in Cyberjaya, was found dead in her dorm room. She was just 20 years old. Kaur, a physiotherapy student at the University of Cyberjaya, was left alone in her dormitory starting on June 21. While the events leading up to her death are still unclear, the police found no signs of forced entry or sexual assault. The cause of death for Kaur was blunt force trauma to the head. A man and two women were arrested in connection to this killing. "The arrests were made within 48 hours of the report being received," district police chief Norhizam Bahaman said. "We hope the public will not speculate on the case or share unverified news that could jeopardize the investigation … We will take stern action on any unlawful act." Even though arrests were made this week, that doesn't erase the pain that Kaur's family is feeling. "I don't know how to respond. We're still devastated from Maniisha's death, and now we've lost another family member," Kaur's uncle said, via the Hindustan Times. Prayers have been pouring in for the Kaur family over the past few days. "This morning, I took the time to visit the family of the late Maniishapriet Kaur Akhara, the victim of the tragic incident at Mutiara Ville, Cyberjaya, before making my way to Putrajaya. I spent some time speaking with the grieving family," Nancy Shukri wrote. "I extend my deepest condolences to the family on their heartbreaking loss. May they be granted strength and perseverance during this time of sorrow." "The loss of Maniishapriet Kaur Akhara is a tragedy that has touched many hearts. Her passing is not merely a loss, but also a question that demands answers," one person said. "Shocked and saddened RIP Maniishapriet," another person wrote on X. Two more people arrested over damage to aircrafts at RAF base
Two more people have been arrested on suspicion of a terror offence after two aircrafts were vandalised at RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire. Counter Terrorism Policing South East said the men, aged 22 and 24 and both from London, were arrested on Saturday afternoon on suspicion of the commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism, contrary to Section 41 of the Terrorism Act 2000. On Thursday, police said a woman, aged 29 of no fixed address, and two men, aged 36 and 24 from London, had been taken into police custody after the incident at RAF Brize Norton on 20 June. A 41-year-old woman, of no fixed address, was also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, they previously said. Read more: The group posted a video online claiming it was behind the vandalism at the Oxfordshire airbase last Friday, saying activists had damaged two military planes at the base. Palestine Action - which focuses its campaigns on multinational arms dealers and has previously - said two activists "broke into the largest air force base in Britain and used electric scooters to swiftly manoeuvre towards the planes". Repurposed fire extinguishers were used to spray red paint into the turbine engines of two Airbus Voyagers, while further damage was made using crowbars. "Red paint, symbolising Palestinian bloodshed was also sprayed across the runway and a Palestine flag was left on the scene," a statement by the group said. Brize Norton is the largest RAF station, with approximately 5,800 service personnel, 300 civilian staff and 1,200 contractors. A security review was launched across the "whole defence estate" following the breach, which was condemned as "absolutely staggering" by Ben Obese-Jecty, a Tory MP and former Army officer. Sir Keir Starmer condemned the "act of vandalism" as "disgraceful", adding: "Our Armed Forces represent the very best of Britain and put their lives on the line for us every day. It is our responsibility to support those who defend us." Home Secretary Yvette Cooper said on Monday that Palestine Action will be proscribed as a terrorist organisation following the breach at RAF Brize Norton. She said a draft proscription order will be laid in parliament next week, and if passed, it will make it illegal to be a member of, or invite support for, Palestine Action.
