Govt. schools to get ICT labs, students high-end laptops

NEW DELHI
Education Minister Ashish Sood said on Tuesday that the Delhi government will set up Information and Communication Technology (ICT) labs in 175 government schools and distribute free high-end laptops to 1,200 meritorious students who passed the Class 10 examination.
The initiative is part of the Mukhya Mantri Digital Education Scheme and aims to equip students with digital tools aligned with evolving technology, he said at a press conference.
The laptops, equipped with i7 processors, will be provided to academically outstanding students at a total cost of ₹8 crore. 'This will enable them to pursue their aspirations in the digital age without technological barriers,' Mr. Sood said, adding that the scheme aligns with the National Education Policy 2020.
The Minister said each ICT lab will follow the CBSE parameters and be equipped with 40 computers. The government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with a private organisation to establish 100 ICT labs in as many government schools under its Corporate Social Responsibility, he said.
Political blame game
Hitting out at the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, Mr. Sood claimed that not a single government school in Delhi currently has a functional computer lab, despite AAP's repeated claims of having transformed education in the Capital. 'Out of 1,074 government schools, not even one has a working computer lab. I invite the media to verify this on the ground,' he said.
AAP dismissed Mr. Sood's claims. 'He has developed a habit of ranting about the previous government. If he believes there's any merit in his claims, he should order an inquiry or refer the matter to the ACB (Anti Corruption Branch)for probe,' it said.

Punjab, top Sikh body spar over events on Guru Tegh Bahadur's martyrdom day

A fresh tussle has erupted in Punjab between the Bhagwant Mann-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government and the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD)-aligned Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC). This time, the friction centres around their separate plans to commemorate the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur, the 9th Guru of Monday, Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains announced that the state government's upcoming celebration has been scheduled from November 19 to 25, where the government will organise several events, including a major yatra starting from Srinagar, which will be flagged off by Chief Minister Bhagwant yatras from Punjab's Majha, Malwa, and Doaba regions will converge at Anandpur Sahib, the birthplace of Guru Tegh Bahadur, and the city will be turned into a white city to mark the day. However, the SGPC has voiced strong objections after the government announcement, calling the overlapping of events disruptive and disrespectful to Sikh traditions. SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami accused the Mann government of intentionally sidelining Sikh institutions and calling for avoidable controversy with the Panth. 'Instead of following the cooperative spirit shown by earlier governments, this administration is intruding into Panthic affairs,' Dhami said.'SGPC, as the premier religious body of the Sikh community, holds the rightful authority to lead such historic religious commemorations in coordination with Sikh organisations and sangat (devotees). The role of governments should be to facilitate arrangements for the devotees—not to interfere in religious affairs,' Dhami told India response, CM Mann hit back at the SGPC on Tuesday, questioning if the body held a 'copyright' on organising events for Sikh Gurus. Mann also mentioned that during Prakash Singh Badal's government, similar events were hosted together by the SGPC and the SAD-led Punjab is not the first time that the SGPC or any government excluding SAD is in contradiction. The situation mirrors a similar conflict in 2019, when the SGPC clashed with the then Congress-led government over parallel events for Guru Nanak's 550th birth anniversary, due in November, carries political weight ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly polls. For the SAD, struggling with internal divisions and a waning voter base, the commemorations represent a chance to reconnect with the public. Meanwhile, the AAP government seems determined to assert its role in religious and cultural the controversy, preparations are moving ahead at full pace. The state government expects over one crore devotees in Anandpur Sahib and plans to turn the city white for the occasion. A 'tent city' will be erected for visitors, and sound-and-light shows will be held across all 23 districts. Seminars in universities are also on the cards to spread awareness about Guru Tegh Bahadur's legacy. Coordination is underway with Haryana, Delhi, and Jammu & Kashmir to facilitate the SGPC has stated it will invite leaders from all states to its commemorative events, aiming for inclusivity. However, the body's secretary, Balwinder Singh, claimed he was unaware of any official communication with the Mann the two sides choose to reconcile and organise joint events, it could lead to the unlikely scenario of CM Mann sharing the stage with SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal—a politically sensitive prospect, given the SGPC's frequent criticisms of the AAP government.- EndsMust Watch

‘First 30 years it was Cong, then BJP; time for change': Kejriwal tells people to prepare for BJP's exit

'Samay ka chakra ghoomta hai…pehla tees saal Congress, phir tees saal BJP. Ab BJP ke jaane ka time aa gaya. Bye bye BJP. (The wheel of time turns…first 30 years of Congress, then 30 years of BJP. Now the time has come for BJP to go),' Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal trained his guns at the two national parties while addressing a rally along with Punjab Chief Minister Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, in support of party's arrested Dediapada MLA Chaitar Vasava. Vasava was arrested on July 5 in an alleged attempted murder case after a brawl with Dediapada taluka BJP president Sanjay Vasava during a meeting at the Dediapada Prant office. On Thursday, the two AAP leaders also talked about the MGNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act) scam and paper leaks apart from discussing issues of employment, education, healthcare and road infrastructure during the rally in Narmada district's Dediapada. Criticising both the BJP and the Congress, Kejriwal and Mann termed party leader Gopal Italia's recent victory from Visavadar as 'a positive sign' for the AAP in the upcoming elections. Punjab CM Mann said, 'Aam public hai, chup rahe toh paanch saal, seene pe pathar rakh le dus saal, aankhein band kar le pandrah saal, jeeb ko taala laga le pachees saal, kuch bina bole tees saal… par tees saal ke baad jab janta jaagti hai toh tees saal ka hisaab tees minute me le leti hai (The common public remained silent for five years, endured for 10 years, shut their eyes for 15 years, locked their pockets for 25 years, didn't say anything for 30 years…but after 30 years when the public awakens… they will ask for accountability in 30 minutes). Kejriwal added, 'Samay ka chakra ghoomta hai…pehla tees saal Congress, phir tees saal BJP. Ab BJP ke jaane ka time aa gaya. Bye bye BJP (The wheel of time turns…first 30 years of Congress, then 30 years of BJP. Now the time has come for BJP to go).' Kejriwal and Mann, who were on a two-day visit to Gujarat, had attended the Mahapanchayat of cattle herders in Modasa on Wednesday. 'In 2022, an Adivasi man, Chaitar Vasava, fought the elections. He is an educated member of the tribal community and an honest man… so you made him your MLA. Since Vasava has become an MLA, he has raised the issues of the public regarding schools, hospitals, electricity, jal, jungle, jameen, roads… Then Chaitar began getting government records. He saw that the government money sent for school, hospitals and roads were going into these people's pockets. One small neta of theirs becomes MLA and from cycle he has now 10 big cars… from a small house, he has a palace, from where? From stealing your money. Chaitar began exposing their secrets and became the voice of the Adivasi community,' said Kejriwal. He added, 'The BJP government got scared that if Chaitar keeps speaking up for the Adivasis, they won't vote for them. Then Chaitar looked into the MGNREGA scheme, where you get a minimum wage for 100 days. Who goes to work for minimum wage? The poorest of the poor. These BJP people are so 'gande and neech' (bad and selfish), that they even stole that money. Chaitar exposed corruption in MGNREGA first in the Vidhan Sabha, then in front of the media and then on the roads'. 'The minister didn't resign but both his sons went to jail,' he said while taking a dig at Gujarat minister Bachu Khabad. Meanwhile, Vasava's wives, Varsha and Shakuntala, were also present at the gathering and the former read a message from the jailed MLA to his constituents, who in turn, raised the slogan 'jail ke tale tutenge, Chaitar Vasava chhootenge' (The jail locks will break, Chaitar Vasava will be free). Thanking the people for their support, Varsha read Vasava's message saying, 'After becoming MLA, I haven't stayed at home for a single day. My people have faced injustice by the government and I have fought against that, and so the government has falsely put me in jail. The truth is that where the meeting was held, no such incident took place. It is a made up story and the police made the CCTV footage disappear…they are trying to implicate me in a false case. When I went to file an FIR, the police made me sit for 3 to 4 hours and didn't let me speak to the media…the police are working with the government.' Varsha further read out, 'The Rs 2,500 crore MGNREGA scam was done by Bachhu Khabad and his sons are out on bail and the one who exposed them is in jail. Isn't this a political conspiracy? If anything happens to me or my family, the police will be responsible for it.' Speaking in favour of Vasava, Kejriwal said: 'They keep sending AAP leaders to jail. Last year, they kept me in jail for a year. They put Manish Sisodia, Satyendar Jain, Sanjay Singh in jail, they thought we would get scared, that this would break our party but our party became stronger. We are not going to be scared. There are still two years for the next election. You just see, they will send Gopal Italia and Isudan Gadhvi to jail as well.' Meanwhile, Punjab CM Mann said, 'They think the poor people can be controlled.. they have corruption money and can purchase the administration. I say collect how much money, diamonds and pearls you want, but a coffin doesn't have pockets. Chaitar hasn't been jailed for the first time. Last time, when the administration came to crush a farmer's crops under a tractor, Chaitarbhai stood in front of the tractor. He went to jail then also.' Saying that AAP gives tickets to the 'Aam Aadmi', Kejriwal exhorted the youth to step forward to take part in the upcoming Taluka Panchayat, Zilla and Nagarpalika elections. Slamming the Congress, Kejriwal added, 'Beware of the Congress. Gujarat doesn't have a BJP government. It has a Congress-BJP alliance government. They loot the people together. Till now, there was no opposition in Gujarat. Now there is. We will fight with you but you have to take responsibility.' Hitting back at Kejriwal for his remarks, Gujarat Congress spokesperson Dr Manish Doshi said, 'His habit of lying is still going on. Whether it is Delhi, Haryana or Punjab, or (during) Gujarat 2022 elections, if you see any poll results, it is clear they have helped the BJP. AAP should stop misleading the people of the country and stop cheating the public of Gujarat. Kejriwal is working to damage the Congress and help the BJP win.'

14 govt school students to visit Germany for vocational training: Delhi CM

New Delhi: Fourteen top-performing students from Delhi government schools on Thursday received special tips as Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Minister Ashish Sood interacted with them ahead of their vocational training in Germany. At a special felicitation ceremony held at the Delhi Secretariat, CM Gupta and Education Minister Ashish Sood praised the students who, despite limited resources, gave wings to their dreams through hard work and excellence. The 14 selected students from Delhi Government schools will soon study in Germany under the APAL (Ausbildung Programm für Auszubildende in Deutschland) Project 2025 for a vocational education and training programme. The Federal Employment Agency (BA) of Germany, responsible for employment benefits and job market operations across the country, had launched a flagship initiative known as APAL - 'Training Partnerships with Latin America, India, and Uzbekistan.' CM Gupta stated that it has always been the commitment of the Delhi government to ensure that every child receives world-class education, skill development, and global opportunities, regardless of their socio-economic background. The selection of these children is a living example of that very commitment, she said, adding, "I extend my heartfelt congratulations to all these children. This journey is not just theirs, but also a step toward building a new India - one where dreams know no bounds." Sood also briefed the 14 students from Delhi Government schools who have been selected to participate in the APAL Project 2025. This programme offers an opportunity to young individuals to pursue dual vocational training in Germany, a global leader in skill development and education. Sood stated that a kind of exchange programme has been established between the Delhi government and the German government, focusing on both skilling and employability. Under this programme, these 14 students will go to Germany, where they will receive training and pursue their education for a duration of 3 to 3.5 years, and eventually secure placements. He further shared that the way Delhi's meritorious students are getting inspired in the field of education will open up many new opportunities for technical education and training, along with other countries. Sood said ever since Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched initiatives like Skill India, the country's reputation has grown internationally. 'Under the guidance of the Government of India, the Delhi government has also made significant strides in the areas of skilling and employability. We have made conscious efforts to ensure that Delhi's children receive quality skill-based education and become employable,' he said.
