Moved by the family's plight, Madikeri MLA Dr. Mantar Gowda visited the bereaved parents in May 2024 and pledged to build a new home for them at an estimated cost of ₹8.5 lakh. True to his word, the house was completed and handed over to Meena's parents on May 9, a day before her first death anniversary.
The award was instituted by senior journalist Coovercolly Indresh, along with his siblings Savitha, Sundresh, and Chandresh, in memory of their parents B.V. Chandrashekar and Pushpalatha. A corpus fund of ₹1 lakh was deposited with the Kodagu Press Club to support the annual award. The recognition includes a cash prize of ₹5,000 and a memento.
Ravishankar Nanaiah, Special Officer of Kodagu University, presented the award during a ceremony held at Patrika Bhavan in Madikeri on Sunday.

CS directs intensive vehicle-checking drive from Aug 1
Patna: Amid a surge in crimes, chief Secretary (CS) Amrit Lal Meena on Tuesday instructed the officials of home department and district administration, besides police, to establish permanent check posts at important locations in all districts, and prepare action plans to conduct intensive vehicle-checking drives from Aug 1. Chief secy holds review meet with DMs, SPs of 7 border dists
Patna: Bihar chief secretary Amrit Lal Meena on Thursday held a review meeting with the district magistrates (DMs) and superintendents of police (SPs) of seven border districts, and asked them to maintain law and order in view of the coming assembly elections. Meena directed the officials of Supaul, Katihar, Purnia, Madhepura, Saharsa, Araria and Kishanganj districts to ensure facilities like drinking water, toilets, electricity, furniture and ramps at all election booths. "All arrangements should be in order in the buildings identified for the stay of paramilitary forces (CAPF) during the elections," he said. DGP Vinay Kumar, chief electoral officer Vinod Singh Gunjiyal, additional chief secretary (home) Arvind Kumar Chaudhary, ADG (HQ) Kundan Krishnan and others were present in the meeting. Meena instructed them to take strict action against land mafias and smugglers by collecting information about their activities. "Form a special cell at the SP level and collect information about the criminals from various offices. Run a comprehensive campaign to arrest and attach the properties of notorious criminals, who are absconding," he told them. The chief secretary also directed the DMs and SPs to speed up the arrest of criminals, check vehicles, conduct continuous raids against liquor mafias, identify notorious criminals and take strict action against them by imposing CCA. DGP Kumar asked the SPs to take strict action and cancel the licences of the arms dealers found guilty. HC denies bail to ACB addl SP in monthly bribe case
Jaipur: Nearly two months after the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) exposed a bribery network and arrested its own additional SP, Surendra Kumar Sharma, the Rajasthan High Court Tuesday refused to grant him bail. At the same time, the court approved bail for district transport officer Poonyaram Meena, who was accused of supplying bribe money to Sharma in exchange for protection from action. Meena's lawyers told the court that his name was not mentioned in the First Information Report and there was no direct evidence linking him to the alleged bribes. They said he was implicated only through statements made by co-accused persons and that no cash was recovered from him. The court also considered that another co-accused, Vivek Soni, was already granted bail on June 27. The prosecution countered that Sharma, while posted in the Anti-Corruption Bureau, worked with others to collect bribes from transporters and received a share through intermediaries.
