Conduct polls on 2024 electoral rolls: Dipankar

Election Commission
(EC) should conduct the assembly elections on the basis of the state's electoral roll used during the 2024 parliamentary polls, as the special intensive revision (SIR) of the electoral roll has got mired in controversies.
"The voting right of each and every elector in the state should be guaranteed. The EC wants to meet every political party separately and has also sent a letter asking us to present our points of view, which we will do. Our singular demand is that the ongoing SIR should be withdrawn," Bhattacharya said while talking to reporters,
He took strong exception to the alleged "misinformation" being spread that foreign nationals are present in the state.
"It is a bland lie. Did anyone, or any political party, make such complaints regarding the electoral roll used during the 2024 parliamentary elections?" he asked.
"People of Musahar caste are found in
Bihar
in large numbers. Are they being presented as people from Myanmar? The Bihari migrant workers and Muslim migrant workers from West Bengal are being described as Bangladeshis," he alleged.
Pointing out that the visits of the CPI(ML) workers to houses have shown the EC is insisting that the documents have to be furnished in any case, if not in July then in August. "The documents that the poor can furnish are the domicile and caste certificates, but even these certificates are not being issued to them by the authorities concerned," he alleged.

EC: Just over 5% of electors left to submit EFs
P Tired of too many ads? go ad free now atna: The Election Commission (EC) on Friday said that so far, 94.68% of electorate were covered under the ongoing special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar. Only a small percentage (5.2%) of electorate are to submit their filled-up enumeration forms, even though seven days are still left, it added. "Only 41,10,213 electorates, which come to 5.2% of the total electorate, are to submit their filled-up enumeration forms," a statement issued by the EC said, adding the list of forms that could not be collected is being shared with political parties. The draft electoral rolls will be published on August 1. The EC stated that the lists of electors who are probably deceased, permanently shifted, enrolled at multiple places, or have not returned the EFs even after multiple visits by BLOs, are now also being shared with the district presidents of political parties, and 1.5 lakh booth-level agents (BLAs) appointed by them. This is to ascertain the exact status of each elector before July 25. "As per the SIR order, each of the more than 1.5 lakh BLAs can submit up to 50 forms a day after certifying them. This step is in line with the ECI's commitment that no eligible elector is left out," the statement said.

AAP no longer part of INDIA bloc: Party MP Sanjay Singh
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) distanced itself from the INDIA bloc on Friday (July 18, 2025), saying it is not part of the Opposition alliance anymore and questioning the Congress party's role in leading it. Remarks to this effect were made by Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh ahead of an online meeting of the leaders of the INDIA bloc parties scheduled for Saturday evening to discuss the prevailing political situation in the country. The meeting comes ahead of the Monsoon session of Parliament, which starts on Monday (July 21, 2025). It will be held after a long gap since the constituents of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) last deliberated on the country's political situation jointly. Gaya roll revision reveals 1.5 L ineligible voters
Gaya: The ongoing special intensive revision (SIR) of the electoral roll in Gaya district has revealed that there are 1,50,005 ineligible voters, which include 62,803 dead, 60,578 permanently transferred and 26,824 having double entry. The data, based on the report received from the booth level officers (BLOs), was presented by district magistrate-cum-district election officer Shashank Shubhankar at a meeting with representatives of political parties at the collectorate on Friday. The DM said, "A total of 30,95,428 enumeration forms were distributed through the BLOs out of which 28,17,758 have been received from the electors. The work of uploading 27,10,100 forms through the App has also been completed." He added: "Total number of polling stations previously approved by the Election Commission in Gaya district is 3,262. Due to more than 1,200 voters at some places, the newly proposed polling stations are 604. After rationalisation, the number of proposed polling stations is 3,866 in 10 assembly segments in the district," he added. The DM appealed to the representatives to activate the booth-level agents so that they can coordinate with BLOs in providing the forms to the electors, who are left out. He also received feedback and suggestions regarding the ongoing revision exercise.
