Is this Luke Clanton's week? John Deere Classic odds, picks and PGA Tour predictions
Most of the game's top players are getting ready for the 153rd Open Championship at Royal Portrush in 2 weeks, so they're taking this week off before playing in the Scottish Open next week. The red-hot Ben Griffin is the favorite to win in Silvis at +1400, with Jason Day (+2200), Denny McCarthy (+2500) and Michael Thorbjornsen (+2800) near the top of the board, as well. Thompson is +2500 to repeat as the champion.
TPC Deere Run (par 72) is 7,289 yards long and began hosting this event in 2000. It's a traditional layout with tree-lined fairways and larger greens, typically leading to low scores. The winner has been 18-under or better each year since 2010, with Thompson finishing 28-under last year in his victory.

Thorbjornsen is due for his first win soon with the way he's been playing this season. He has 3 top-5 finishes in his last 6 starts alone, including a T-4 at the Rocket Classic where he missed out on a playoff by 1 shot. He finished second here last year and 17th in 2023, proving to have a good feel for the layout at TPC Deere Run.
McCarthy comes into this event having finished sixth twice and seventh once in the last 3 years alone, riding a hot streak at TPC Deere Run. His putting is exceptional once again this year, ranking 9th in SG: putting in 2025. In his last start at the Travelers Championship, he finished T-12 at 8-under par.
John Deere Classic picks – Contender(s)
Smalley missed the cut last week, but in the event prior he finished T-13 at the RBC Canadian Open, which had a fairly strong field. Though he missed the cut in this event last year, he finished 47th, 16th and second in his previous 3 starts, so he's come close to winning here before.
Clanton has shown a lot of promise in his young career and this is a good week to back him in a field that isn't exactly loaded. He finished second here last year and gained 3.19 strokes off the tee, which is an exceptional number. He doesn't have any glaring weaknesses in his game and despite not having a top-20 since the Cognizant Classic in March, he's still trending up and could be nearing a win.

John Deere Classic picks – Long shot(s)
Schenk has had a tough year, missing the cut 10 times in 18 starts. However, he does have 2 top-10s and 4 top-25s, one of which came at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson where he finished T-5. What makes him an intriguing play this week at +12500 is his course history; he finished fourth twice and sixth once in 3 starts from 2019-23.
Valimaki is eighth in SG: putting this season, an important stat at a course where scores are going to be remarkably low. He came in 12th in this event last year and will try to put together another strong week in Silvis this time around.

Dick Vitale, fans rip WNBA players for Caitlin Clark All-Star votes
Following the news that Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark finished in the No. 9 slot in the WNBA All-Star players' vote, popular sports figures and fans nationwide have taken to social media to voice their frustrations, including longtime ESPN analyst and college basketball legend Dick Vitale, who was one of the most vocal. The voting process for the 2025 WNBA All-Star Game in Indianapolis consisted of three voting components: 50% fan votes, 25% WNBA player votes, and 25% media votes. While Clark received the most fan votes and secured herself as one of the two captains for the event, her fellow peers in the league took a different tone by ranking her as the No. 9 guard. As a result of the media voting Clark as third in their rankings behind Atlanta's Allisha Gray and New York's Sabrina Ionescu, Clark's total weighted points saw her finish No. 2 overall in the position, behind Dallas Wings rookie Paige Bueckers. Vitale pointed to the league's apparent "jealousy" of Clark's historic 2024 rookie season and how players should be thankful for her subsequent global fame as it has created a much healthier league in both television ratings and overall popularity. While the shocking result in the players' vote most likely doesn't even bother the former Hawkeye, it could provide another chip on her shoulder to once again prove to her peers that she is the face of the WNBA. Although Clark has not played in the past three games due to a left groin injury, her next opportunity to return to the court will be when the Fever host the Las Vegas Aces from Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis on Thursday at 6 p.m. CT. Malik Beasley Under Federal Investigation Over Gambling Allegations, Social Media Dissects His Past Games
Source: Nic Antaya / Getty The relationship between fans and athletes was already blurred due to legalized sports betting, and now, athletes themselves are entangling themselves in legal issues. Malik Beasley can be added to that list, as the Detroit Piston is now under investigation with federal authorities on claims related to NBA game betting. ESPN reports that at least one major sportsbook began to show unusual attention to Beasley's statistics in January 2024, when he was a member of the Milwaukee Bucks. During a game against the Portland Trail Blazers, sportsbooks set the under on his rebound total at 2.5, which shifted from around +120 to around -250. He ended the game with six rebounds, resulting in a significant loss for those who bet the under. Beasley's lawyer, Steve Haney, released a brief statement to ESPN , reminding everyone that he has not been charged with anything and is presumed innocent. 'An investigation is not a charge,' Haney said. 'Malik is afforded the same right of the presumption of innocence as anyone else under the U.S. Constitution. As of now, he has not been charged with anything.' Even though no charges have been filed, the report is already affecting the free agent's financial situation, as he was reportedly in the midst of 'serious talks' about a three-year, $42 million contract extension with the Pistons. The NBA is also aware of the allegations and is following along with the government's needs. 'We are cooperating with the federal prosecutors' investigation,' NBA spokesperson Mike Bass said in a statement . Beasley is coming off a surprisingly great year, during which he averaged 16.3 points and shot 41% from three-point range, even finishing second in NBA Sixth Man of the Year voting . He was only on a one-year, $6 million deal with Detroit, and this next contract would serve as a major payday and possibly give him a home as he's bounced around the league after spending his first four years with the Denver Nuggets, after they drafted him with the 19th pick in the 2016 Draft. Of course, now that Beasley has been mentioned alongside gambling, social media sleuths have found plays they find questionable. See the reactions below.
