Committee on Health Welcomes Findings of Health Ombud
Dr Dhlomo said, the report tabled on Wednesday by the Health Ombud, Dr Taole Mokoena is concerning and disturbing as it reveals a deep lack of care at Northern Cape Mental Health Hospital, and Robert Sobukwe Hospital. 'The findings of the report are unacceptable, they exposed patients did not receive the quality care that they duly deserve,' said Dr Dhlomo.
Mental healthcare is of paramount importance and must always remain under public scrutiny, especially in the light of the tragic event at Life Esidimeni, stated Dr Dhlomo. The report highlights the necessity of ensuring that mental health should always be placed under the microscope as it affects vulnerable people.
The committee commends the proactive steps initiated by the Minister of Health, Dr Aaron Motsoaledi who lodged a complaint to the Health Ombud. 'This demonstrates a commitment of accountability by the Minister and the department to uncover challenges within psychiatric hospitals and the healthcare system,' added Dr Dhlomo.
In ensuring that the committee provides adequate oversight, the committee will schedule a meeting and invite the Department of Health so that Members of the committee receive a comprehensive briefing. The company recorded a 10% growth in gross profit to SAR 308 million, while maintaining a stable gross profit margin of 38.9%. For the first half of 2025, the company achieved a 109% jump in net profit to SAR 224 million, while revenues grew by 9% to SAR 1.525 billion. This performance is attributed to the growth of operations in the Makkah, Dammam, and Hail regions, the enhancement of competitiveness by its hospitals in Asir and Riyadh receiving the prestigious Magnet accreditation for nursing excellence, and the ongoing implementation of the SAR 400 million expansion project at Jeddah Hospital, which will increase its capacity by more than 190 beds upon completion. The company's management confirmed that these results reflect the strength of its operating model and its ability to achieve sustainable growth in a highly competitive market. It noted that the company continues to invest in geographic expansion and operational efficiency, while remaining committed to providing world-class healthcare. The general assembly approved the board of directors' recommendation to distribute a cash dividends of SAR 0.50 per share (equivalent to 5% of the nominal value) for the fiscal year 2024. The management added that the company plans to continue its expansion and investment in subspecialties, with a focus on improving the patient experience and enhancing operational efficiency. Ghana to host African health financing summit on Tuesday
President John Mahama will on Tuesday, 5 August 2025, host Africa's political leaders, policymakers, and global health stakeholders at the Africa Health Sovereignty Summit. UAE delivers 65 tonnes of medical supplies to Gaza
The UAE has delivered a new batch of 65 tonnes of essential medical supplies to Gaza. The shipment of medicine and medical supplies was sent in co-operation with the World Health Organisation (WHO), state news agency Wam reported on Sunday. The aid was delivered by a convoy of 11 lorries carrying about 65 tonnes of various medicine, ahead of distribution to hospitals across the Gaza Strip. WHO representatives praised the UAE for being one of the most prominent supporters of Gaza's healthcare sector, Wam said.
