AP Chambers suggests interventions for rural development
During the meeting, Potluri Bhaskara Rao expressed appreciation for the Minister's proactive efforts in improving rural and telecommunications infrastructure across Andhra Pradesh.
Some of the suggestions include establishment of the National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (NIRD&PR) in Amaravati to build rural governance capacities, launch of a rural employment scheme modelled on MNREGA to support Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs), setting up of rural skill development centres to equip youth with industry-relevant skills, creation of commodity boards for mango, banana, and palm oil to support crop processing and exports, establishment of Defence and Aerospace manufacturing clusters in strategic locations to promote high-value industries. Telecom coverage needed to be improved in underserved regions of Andhra Pradesh by directing service providers to enhance network quality.
The minister appreciated the Chambers' proactive role and assured the delegation that the suggestions would be taken up with relevant ministries for further consideration.

Philippine President Marcos Jr Arrives On 5-Day State Visit To India
Philippine President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr arrived in the national capital on Monday for a five-day state visit to India, aimed at further strengthening the India-Philippines relationship, the Ministry of External Affairs stated. This is the first visit by the President of the Southeast Asian country to India since he assumed office back in 2022, marking a significant milestone, as his visit aligns with the celebration of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two nations. According to a post on X by the MEA, Marcos was welcomed with a warm reception by the Minister of State for External Affairs, Pabitra Margherita. "Mabuhay, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.! President Bongbong Marcos has arrived in New Delhi on his first State Visit to India. Received by MoS Pabitra Margherita and accorded a warm welcome. India & the Philippines are celebrating 75th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic ties. This visit will lead to further strengthening of India-Philippines relations," the MEA stated on X. He was accompanied by First Lady Louise Araneta Marcos and a high-level delegation including several Ministers from his Cabinet. According to a statement by the MEA, during his visit, President Marcos will be holding talks with President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with other officials. He will also be meeting with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. On August 5, he will lay a wreath at Rajghat, and following that, he will hold talks with PM Modi at the Hyderabad House. Exchange of Memoranda of Understanding and Press Statements will take place thereafter. The Philippine President will then meet Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare JP Nadda and thereafter President Droupadi Murmu. He will then travel to Bengaluru and meet Karnataka Governor Thawar Chand Ghelot. His visit came following an invitation by PM Modi, an MEA statement stated on Thursday. Diplomatic relations between India and the Philippines were established in November 1949. Both countries have since developed a strong partnership across a broad spectrum of areas, including trade and investment, defence and security, maritime cooperation, agriculture, healthcare, pharmaceuticals and digital technologies. The two countries also engage closely at the regional level, including through India's Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with ASEAN. The statement added that India's relations with the Philippines are an integral pillar of our 'Act East' Policy, Vision MAHASAGAR and our vision of the Indo-Pacific. The visit will act as an opportunity for both leaders to set the path for future bilateral cooperation and to engage on regional and international issues of mutual interest, as per the statement. India and the Philippines share warm and multifaceted bilateral relations rooted in historical ties and shared democratic values. Cooperation spans various sectors, including defence, trade, investment, and cultural exchange.

Member of Parliament meets Steel Minister Kumaraswamy on reinstatement of contract workers at Vizag Steel Plant
Visakhapatnam Member of Parliament Matukumilli Sribharat met Union Minister of Steel and Industries H.D. Kumaraswamy in New Delhi on Monday urging him reinstate the contract workers in Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (RINL). During the meeting, he pointed out that the contract workers who contributed significantly to the plant's development and possess strong service records need to be reinstated. He emphasized the importance of regularizing these employees to ensure the plant's smooth functioning. Further, the MP proposed that the Kendriya Vidyalaya presently operating within the plant premises be transferred under the Ministry of Education. This, he explained, would provide students with more stable and quality educational facilities. Mr. Sribharat also recommended implementing a voluntary retirement scheme (VRS) for the staff of Vimal Vidyalayam, functioning within the plant area, to provide them with financial security. Highlighting concerns of the workforce, Mr. Sribharat stressed the urgent need for full-time employee recruitment at the steel plant. He pointed out that proper staffing would facilitate effective promotions, enhance production capacity, and ensure steady availability of raw materials. These strategic improvements would greatly benefit the plant's overall performance, he said. Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy acknowledged the proposals favorably and assured that the Ministry would undertake necessary measures. He said that the Ministry is committed to addressing these concerns promptly and constructively.

Maharashtra's Vidarbha set to emerge as logistics hub with infra push
Advt Ports in the east gain focus By , ETInfra The Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, has announced a set of road, port, and mining-related projects aimed at integrating Maharashtra's Vidarbha into the country's logistics and industrial network, reported The Times of initiatives are expected to connect the region to eastern ports and southern markets, while also fast-tracking mining clearances and transport at the inauguration of the Confederation of Indian Industry's new regional office in Nagpur on Sunday, Gadkari announced a new expressway linking Nagpur to Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh. This will be the third major corridor originating from Nagpur, following the operational Nagpur-Mumbai Samruddhi Mahamarg and the proposed Nagpur-Goa Shaktipeeth Expressway.'Vidarbha's location is strategically advantageous. The eastern ports in Andhra Pradesh are much closer to Nagpur than Mumbai, and they're less congested too. A direct road link means reduced fuel consumption, shorter travel time, and lower logistics costs — key for making exports viable,' said minister said that the Samruddhi Mahamarg would eventually extend to Visakhapatnam through Gondia, bringing districts such as Gadchiroli and Chandrapur into the national logistics also pointed to the ₹37,000 crore Raipur-Visakhapatnam corridor , 88 per cent of which is complete. This corridor, skirting Vidarbha's eastern edge, would allow steel producers in Gadchiroli access to the Visakhapatnam and Kakinada to Gadkari, eastern ports are less congested and handling costs in Maharashtra ports like Vadhavan remain higher. He said logistics costs had already dropped from 16 per cent to 10 per cent of product value, citing a study by IIM Bangalore and IITs Kanpur and Chennai, and that the government aimed to bring this down to 9 per cent by December. In comparison, logistics costs in China stand at 8 per cent, and 12 per cent in the US and Europe, he projects include the Raipur-Hyderabad expressway, a proposed defence cluster in Nagpur, and an airstrip at Ambhora in Kuhi tehsil. Gadkari said pilot projects worth ₹600 crore have been launched with firms such as Tatas, Ashok Leyland, Volvo, IOCL, and HPCL to develop 10 corridors for hydrogen-run vehicles, including one in Maharashtra. Hydrogen can now be used in both petrol and diesel-run engines, he said.
