Former South African captain Hashim Amla recently gave an interview where he named his three best batters of all time. Amla was asked this question on the sidelines of the ongoing World Championship of Legends in England. The 42-year-old is playing for AB de Villiers-led South Africa Champions.
Amla scored 15 off 18 balls against the West Indies Champions on Saturday, July 19. His next match will be against the India Champions on Tuesday, July 22. Before the big game, Amla was asked to pick his three best batters of all time. While many expected him to include Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar, Amla surprised everyone by leaving him out.

Amla's favourite batters of all time
Amla said that while growing up, his favourite players were West Indies legend Brian Lara, former Australia captain Steve Waugh, and fellow South African Jacques Kallis, who is considered one of the greatest all-rounders of all time. Meanwhile, Amla also picked Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, and West Indies great Sir Vivian Richards.
'There are so many over the years. Growing up my three favourite players were Brian Lara, Steve Waugh, and Jacques Kallis, also being from South Africa. But also maybe three other names: you've got Virat (Kohli) in recent times, AB de Villiers, and I'd say one more old one—Sir Vivian Richards."

Amla's snub of Tendulkar from the top three batters of all time has surprised Indian fans. Tendulkar, who is widely known as 'God of Cricket,' played for India from 1989 to 2013 and still holds records for the most runs and matches in both Tests and ODIs. However, Amla believes Kohli, ABD, and Richards are better than Tendulkar.

Ravindra Jadeja's Dismissal During 4th Test Sparks Controversy On Social Media: "Why No Replay?"
The fourth Test match between India and England witnessed a new controversy as Ravindra Jadeja 's dismissal did not go down well with several social media users on Thursday. Jadeja was dismissed by Jofra Archer thanks to a brilliant catch by Harry Brook. However, not everyone was happy with the catch and some questioned whether the umpires should have gone for a review. Pant was beaten by an away-swinger from Jofra as the delivery flew off his outside edge and was caught by Brook at second slip. However, many viewers questioned whether the ball touched the ground as Brook tried to complete the sharp catch and wondered why the umpires did not opt for a review in such a tight situation. Harry Brook grounded that Jadeja catch. Why is there no replay yet? #ENGvIND — Cricket in 60fps (@cricketscape) July 24, 2025 India didn't have the brightest of mornings on Day 2 of the Manchester Test, going to Lunch at 321/6, with rain forcing an early break but despite the gloomy weather and early wickets, the talking point of the session was Rishabh Pant 's brave return to the crease after suffering a painful foot injury on Day 1. The @imjadeja catch by Harry Brook had clearly touched the ground Jadeja stood his ground as he too saw it. Why would he give way? #INDvsENG #ECB — Vivek J (@Vivekrvcse) July 24, 2025 The visitors managed to add just 57 runs in 22 overs in the first session, losing two important wickets along the way. Jofra Archer, who looked sharp from the start, gave England the perfect start by dismissing Ravindra Jadeja for 20. Shardul Thakur, known for his fighting spirit, showed great patience at the other end. He absorbed the pressure, punished the loose balls, and built a useful stand before England skipper Ben Stokes got the breakthrough by dismissing him for a well-made 41. The biggest moment of the session came when Rishabh Pant walked out to bat, limping and clearly in discomfort, yet determined. As he made his way to the middle, the crowd erupted with a huge roar. It was a sight that lifted Indian fans' spirits instantly.

"I Had To Touch His Feet...": Shardul Thakur Reveals Stunning Rishabh Pant Comeback Story
India all-rounder Shardul Thakur on Thursday lauded Rishabh Pan't "unmatched" courage and pain threshold after the latter came out to bat on day two of the fourth Test against England with a broken foot. Speaking to reporters, Shardul confirmed that Pant indeed suffered a fracture while batting on day one. "I think it was always our plan (to try and bring Pant to the middle). There were quite a few efforts from the medical team. So, yes, kudos to them," said Shardul, referring to Pant's fifty that helped India post 358 in their first innings. "They could get Rishabh back onto the field. He could bat there for a while. And whatever he did, it's of course vital runs for the team he scored. "And yes, he was in a lot of pain. And we have seen him doing a lot of amazing things. And this was just another amazing thing that he did for the team today," added Shardul. Shardul and the rest of his teammates were excited to see how Pant approached his innings after resuming at an overnight 37 when he retired hurt after copping a blow on his right foot while attempting a reverse sweep off England pacer Chris Woakes on Wednesday. "Everyone was very excited to see how he would approach for his innings. And I think what he showed today, the passion he showed for the team is unmatched. We have seen a lot of instances in the past when they have batted with fractures. "I think there was a time when Graeme Smith was batting in the South African team. His hand was fractured. So, in these moments, the grit of the player comes into play. "And I think Rishabh's positivity and his grit keeps him away from all the pains and whatever pain he has. His pain bearing capacity is very high. If he is in pain, it is a big injury," said Thakur. On Pant batting in the second innings, Thakur said: "That is his call and medical team's call. In the morning we thought maybe he would be able to bat. Earlier, I had to touch his feet and see if he was able to walk properly. If he is able to walk properly, then we can talk about batting. "When we reached the ground and were warming up up, he was not there. And then I went for batting. I don't know what happened after that. And I think there is a fracture," confirmed Thakur. England opener Zak Crawley too was surprised to see Pant in the middle. "Not many people can do what Pant did today," said Crawley, who put England in a good position by sharing a 166-run opening stand with Ben Duckett. England ended the day at 225 for two with Ollie Pope and Joe Root in the middle.
