Le Roux gets Bok 100 against Italy as Erasmus names three uncapped players

Erasmus named an exciting new backline with Edwill van der Merwe and Eastern Cape local Makazole Mapimpi linking up with Le Roux in the back three. André Esterhuizen will partner Canan Moodie in the midfield and Manie Libbok joins forces with Grant Williams at halfback.
Up front, Jasper Wiese and Van Staden form a loose trio combination with Pieter-Steph du Toit, while Ruan Nortje and Moerat will command the engine room and Thomas du Toit will pack down with Louw and Marx in the front row.
Erasmus named five forwards and three backs on the bench, with Wessels joining fellow front-rowers Nché and Ntlabakanye, along with the versatile Cobus Wiese and Evan Roos. Cobus Reinach, Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu and Hooker will provide backline cover.
Du Toit, Nortje, Williams, Mapimpi and Roos make returns from injuries that ruled them out of action at some stage since last season.
Commenting on Le Roux earning his 100th Test cap, Erasmus said: 'Willie has been a stalwart for us in the last few years after making his debut against Italy in Durban in 2013 and he's a fantastic playmaker, so we are thrilled to see him achieve this incredible feat.

Bok Women ooze optimism while sharing their expertise in Zwide

Morale and team spirit were high as the Springbok Women's team conducted a rugby clinic at Ndzondelelo High School in the heart of Zwide on Wednesday morning. The national team are coming off the back of a 50-20 defeat at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria at the weekend and have been in constant training and preparation ahead of their second Test against Canada at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday. But the Bok Women found time in their busy schedule to run a training workshop in the backyard of men's double World Cup-winning captain Siya Kolisi, as the youths got the opportunity to run drills with the team and get a feel for what to expect in a competitive rugby environment. The Boks' socially responsible presence is always felt in inner-city communities, where effective communication encourages the youth to pursue sports and interact with South African heroes. The team's second row lock, Catha Jacobs, reinforced the critical nature of rugby promotion 'A big thing in our team is to promote rugby, to grow rugby for girls and for boys. 'Being out here today having loads of girls and boys here, this is why we play rugby, for days like this. 'The girls here, the boys here, they are the future of rugby. 'If you have a dream, follow your dream, work as hard as possible and also surround yourself with people who have similar goals as you, and that will help you.' Under the experienced captaincy of Nolusindiso Booi, the Boks have their eyes set on the Canada game with great optimism while looking to gain as much preparation as possible to guarantee a fortifying run at the Women's World Cup in August.

‘We must show the same mentality,' Mbane says as Banyana focus on Tanzania

Banyana have played Tanzania in the past 18 months, beating them 2-0 away and 1-0 at home in an Olympic qualifier in February last year. Mbane said those results will have no affect on what will happen on Friday. 'This is new game and it's a tournament, anything is possible, and we're not talking about what happened before, we're talking about now and we don't how much they've prepared.' Since arriving in Morocco, where they won the Wafcon for the first time in 2022, Banyana have had to get used to the midsummer heat, different to the chilly winter they left in South Africa. The 5pm local time kickoff game against Ghana was played in 34 °C. 'But I liked our mentality — it's a mentality of winners and that will take us far in the tournament,' Mbane said. 'Even when we might have obstacles — if we can overcome the heat, we can get a lot of things.'

Tennis giant and philanthropist Roger Federer now a dollar billionaire

Perhaps his most strategic move was his early investment in On, a Swiss performance sneaker company. When On went public in 2021 Federer's stake helped catapult him into billionaire status almost overnight. Beyond the courts and boardrooms, Federer proudly embraces his South African roots. His mother, Lynette Federer, was born in Kempton Park, Gauteng, and was a star athlete in track and field, netball and field hockey. Federer holds dual Swiss-South African citizenship and has spoken often of his emotional connection to the country. His philanthropic efforts also reflect that bond. Through the Roger Federer Foundation, he supports early childhood education in six African nations — South Africa, Namibia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Malawi and Botswana — reaching more than 2-million children to date.
