Ryan Preece, Joey Logano DQd after top-5 finishes

Reuters28-04-2025
April 28 - As the checkered flag dropped at Talladega Superspeedway on Sunday, Ryan Preece crossed the line in a career-best second place, half a car length behind race winner Austin Cindric.
A few hours later, Preece was sitting in 38th place in the official race results.
Preece and defending Cup Series champion Joey Logano were disqualified from the Jack Link's 500 after their cars failed post-race inspection -- specifically, NASCAR found technical violations in the rear spoilers.
That dropped Preece's No. 60 Ford to 38th place and Logano's No. 22 Ford into 39th, last place. Logano crossed the finish line in fifth place.
According to a NASCAR report, officials found "unapproved shims in the rear spoiler area." Logano's car violated rules relating to spoiler braces used during superspeedway races, per the report.
"The No. 22 Team Penske Ford Mustang was disqualified following post-race inspection at Talladega today," Team Penske said in a statement. "One of the 18 bolts on the surface of the spoiler that connect to the base was found to be loose, and NASCAR penalized the team as a result. This was not intentional and happened throughout the course of the race event. Team Penske accepts the disqualification."
Cindric picked up his first win of the season as Fords originally had four cars finish in the top 6.
NASCAR also announced the No. 5 of Kyle Larson (who moved up to second after the DQs) and the 21 of Josh Berry (26th place) would undergo additional inspection this week at the NASCAR Research & Development Center in Concord, N.C.

From Trailblazer to Heritage Icon Introduced on August 11, 1965, as a 1966 model, the Ford Bronco was designed to bring the simplicity and excitement of the Mustang into a rugged, off-road-ready vehicle. It marked Ford's entry into what it termed the 'sport-utility' space, a phrase that would later define an entire segment. For decades, the Bronco became a recognizable presence in both everyday use and off-road circles, earning a reputation for toughness and adventure-readiness. After a 23-year production gap, Ford revived the Bronco in 2020 with a design that leaned heavily on its vintage roots. In 2026, the model marks its 60th anniversary. To commemorate the occasion, Ford is rolling out a 60th Anniversary Package for the Bronco, designed to highlight the vehicle's legacy while maintaining its off-road utility and modern comfort. Designing with Restraint and Reference Built on the Outer Banks trim, the 60th Anniversary Bronco comes exclusively with the Sasquatch Package. It features 35-inch Goodyear rugged terrain tires, an advanced four-wheel-drive system, high-clearance suspension, and locking differentials. A new 17-inch Gravity Gray alloy wheel design nods to the past with a Vermilion Red center cap stamped with the year '1966' and a bucking Bronco logo. A reworked grille with Warm Alloy paint and red 'BRONCO' lettering is paired with body color options that evoke classic Ford tones. Wimbledon White – a color used on the original Bronco – is available for the body or as a contrast roof when paired with Ruby Red paint. Vermilion Red accents appear throughout the exterior, including a rocker panel graphic with a 60th Anniversary logo and a Wimbledon White spare tire cover with a red Bronco wordmark. The interior receives a modest upgrade with Ebony and Alpine leather seats embossed with anniversary logos, Alpine-stitched dash accents, and marine-grade vinyl door trim. Red detailing on the dashboard and grab handles continues the subtle nod to classic design. Newly introduced A-pillar-mounted grab handles and standard running boards enhance everyday usability. Available to Order in a Few Months The 60th Anniversary Package is only available with the Outer Banks trim and requires selection of the Sasquatch Package. Buyers can choose between a 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder producing 300 horsepower or an optional 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 rated at 330 hp found in other Fords. Both are paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission and full-time four-wheel drive. Ford says the special edition will be available to order starting October 2025, with pricing to be announced shortly beforehand. More will be revealed on August 4.

Ford Revises Tariff Hit Estimate Again – And It's Not Pretty

Ford reports its first quarterly loss since 2023 Ford has updated its financial guidance again for 2025, noting that tariffs will dent profits by a $3 billion gross amount, up from $2.5 billion. The automaker incurred $800 million in tariff-related expenses last quarter, and its 2025 earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) are now $6.5 billion to $7.5 billion, down from February's forecast of $7 billion and $8.5 billion. This rise in anticipated tariff costs stems from Ford's imports of vehicle parts, steel, and aluminum, along with levies on Mexico and Canada remaining higher for longer than expected. Ford's tariff bill from Q2 eliminated its net profit, resulting in the company's first quarterly loss since 2023. Ford F-150 Lightning — Source: Getty Images How Ford's responding to its tariff burden Ford Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Sherry House said that the manufacturer is in near-daily contact with Washington discussing ways to reduce tariff expenses. House described the interactions as 'constructive conversations' centered around steel and aluminum tariffs, according to NBC4 Los Angeles. The Ford CFO added: 'They've [Trump administration] made it clear that Ford, as the most American automaker, should not be disadvantaged,' The Wall Street Journal reports. Ford's extensive network of domestic production facilities is helping the company fare slightly better than General Motors (GM), which reported that it lost $1.1 billion in Q2 due to tariffs, with a predicted $4 billion to $5 billion hit for the year. GM expects to offset 30% of its 2025 gross tariff losses, and Ford said it can offset $1 billion. Stellantis shared on Tuesday that import levies will reduce its earnings this year by about $1.7 billion, but while this amount is lower than Ford's and GM's, it posted a $2.65 billion net loss in the first half of 2025 alone. A closer look at Ford's tariff troubles—and what could happen next Around 80% of the vehicles that Ford sells in the U.S. are produced domestically, about 25% more than GM and Stellantis. Still, Ford relies heavily on imported components for segments such as electric vehicles (EVs) and hybrids. President Trump set an August 1 deadline for most countries to finalize trade deals with the U.S. or face elevated tariffs. While the European Union, South Korea, and Japan reached a 15% import agreement with the US, Ford continues to face steeper tariffs on many parts. Trump's administration doubled steel and aluminum tariffs to 50%, raising costs for material suppliers and causing consumers to absorb the additional expenses. Ford recently finished extending its employee discount to all customers on most of its inventory, and the automaker may raise prices on EVs and hybrids shortly to recoup some profit losses from tariffs. Consumers may also see Ford cut back on incentives and discounts for fleet and commercial purchases. Ford dealership in Richmond, California — Source: Getty Final thoughts Ford's tariff bill is better than GM's thanks to its strong domestic manufacturing presence, but the outlook could be better. GM's Q2 tariff bill was $300 million more than Ford's—an amount that seems like it should be higher given that Ford produces about 25% more domestic vehicles than GM. However, Ford's reliance on imported components for segments like EVs is costing the company significantly, underscoring the importance of timely White House negotiations as other countries strike trade deals and reduce tariff rates. 152bhp and sub-£40k? This is my perfect Caterham Seven

You might have heard that Caterham has found a new engine supplier in Horse (decent name, I think), a joint venture between Renault and Geely. Horse engines will go into Caterham's Academy racing cars (which I have driven) from next year to replace the Ford 1.6-litre Sigma engine, which Ford hasn't made in years. Caterham has been assembling race car engines from a stock of blocks and bought-in parts and stopped using it in road cars some time ago. The Sigma is a nice engine. Autocar had one in a 140bhp Supersport long-termer that we ran in 2012-13, and I spent a lot of time in it, including an edifying day at Rye House kart circuit to see whether any car could have the handling of a go-kart. The answer was no, of course, but still, I remember it as one of the best driving days of my life. The Sigma is lighter than the Ford 2.0-litre Duratec engine (which Ford doesn't make any more either) that Caterham now uses in most of its road cars, and it has considerably more power than the kei car-compliant 660cc Suzuki-engined 170. But with the arrival of the Horse engine, the Sigma is finally on its way out. To mark its run-out, Caterham has announced a special-edition road car, the 310 Encore. The engine is tweaked to 152bhp at 7000rpm, plus you get a lightened flywheel and sports suspension. There are some other upgrades too, there will only be 25 of them and they will cost £39,995. Of late I've said that my favourite Sevens are the 170 and the 620, the extremes at either end of the scale, but this Encore car might just sit in a sweet spot reminiscent of that old Supersport. If you're looking for a Goldilocks Seven, this could be it.
