Marcos urges Filipinos to utilize gov't job fairs for employment opportunities
Speaking at a job fair in Tagum City, Davao del Norte, for beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), Marcos expressed his hopes for their success and encouraged them to seize the opportunities available to them.
'I believe each of you has the capability and determination to make your lives productive,' said Marcos, emphasizing the importance of utilizing the opportunities presented by these job fairs.
The 'Trabaho sa Bagong Pilipinas' initiative launched its job fair in January 2024, where more than 9,000 people applied, with over 1,000 hired on the spot, including 95 4Ps beneficiaries.
Reflecting on the success of 1,908 job fairs last year, which led to 66,667 individuals securing immediate employment, Marcos promised to expand the program nationwide.
The initiative not only provides job opportunities but also focuses on job matching, ensuring applicants are connected with positions that suit their skills.
It aims to empower 4Ps beneficiaries by offering employment, livelihood support, and access to essential services.
The government plans to support 4.4 million households this year, including 263,238 in the Davao region.
The job fair in Tagum City included 28 employers offering a wide range of opportunities, with 1,240 available positions, including customer service, clerk, cashier, carpenter, and mason roles.

DMW shuts down Manila-based recruitment agency and travel consultancy over illegal hiring for Poland
The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has shut down two firms in Manila—Reiven Air Travel Tours & Consultancy and Reliable Recruitment Corporation—for allegedly engaging in illegal recruitment of Filipinos for jobs in Poland. Reiven Air, a non-DMW licensed travel consultancy, partnered with Reliable, a licensed recruitment agency with no job orders for Poland. Their tie-up allegedly created the false impression of a legal recruitment operation. DMW Undersecretary Bernard Olalia, who led the operation, explained that the scheme—known as the 'kabit system'—involves unlicensed firms using licensed agencies as fronts. Applicants were lured with promises of jobs like fruit pickers and factory workers, with salaries of up to ₱90,000, in exchange for a ₱70,000 one-time, non-refundable fee. The closure operation, done in coordination with the Manila Police District, also led to the arrest of suspected recruiters. Both firms will face legal consequences, including the revocation of Reliable's license and inclusion of staff in the DMW's Derogatory List, barring them from future recruitment activities. This marks the 16th closure by DMW this year under the directive of President Marcos Jr., who called for stronger action against illegal recruitment to protect OFWs.

PH, Canada leaders discuss deepening of trade and defense cooperation

The Philippine leader also took the opportunity to thank Carney for Canada's swift response and assistance to the Filipino community in Vancouver following the tragic incident during the Lapu-Lapu Day Festival. About 11 people were killed and several others injured when an SUV driver plowed into a crowd at the Filipino street festival. 'I conveyed our gratitude for Canada's swift assistance to the Filipino community in Vancouver,' Marcos said. Canada is home to one of the largest Filipino communities overseas.

DMW thanks Emirates NBD, UAE gov't for continued zero-fee remittances to the Philippines
The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has expressed gratitude to the United Arab Emirates government and Emirates NBD after the bank confirmed that money transfers to the Philippines will continue to be free of charge under its DirectRemit service. Starting September 1, 2025, Emirates NBD will begin charging a nominal fee of up to AED 26.25 (inclusive of VAT) on most cross-border transfers to over 30 new countries, as part of its expanded DirectRemit offerings. However, transfers to the Philippines, as well as to India, Pakistan, Egypt, Sri Lanka, and the United Kingdom, will remain free for all Emirates NBD customers. Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac thanked both Emirates NBD and the UAE government for ensuring that OFWs in the country can continue to send money home without additional costs. 'We likewise express our sincere gratitude to the UAE Government and the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation for fostering a supportive environment for migrant communities. Their cooperation ensures that OFWs can continue sending financial support to their loved ones without additional costs,' said Cacdac. Data from the Philippine Statistics Authority show that around 700,000 Filipinos lived in the United Arab Emirates as of 2023, with approximately 600,000 working as overseas Filipino workers. The Philippines remains one of the world's top recipients of remittances, which serve as a key source of income for millions of Filipino families.
