Broncos LB Drew Sanders out for extended time with foot injury
Per NFL Media's Ian Rapoport, Drew Sanders suffered a foot tendon injury and an MRI revealed he will be out for an extended period of time.
Sanders will not be able to return for the start of the regular season. He still needs further tests to determine next steps.
Sanders, 24, suffered an Achilles tear during last year's offseason program but was able to return late in the year for four games and Denver's postseason loss.
A third-round pick in 2023, Sanders appeared in all 17 games with four starts as a rookie, recording 24 total tackles and a fumble recovery.

As training camp for the Denver Broncos heats up with players in pads looking forward to the first week of preseason, quarterback Bo Nix, cornerback Pat Surtain and wide receiver Courtland Sutton recently sat down with Colleen Wolfe and Ian Rapoport of NFL Network to talk about the leaps the team has taken from 2024 to 2025. Bo Nix Going from Year 1 to Year 2, Nix spoke at length about how head coach Sean Payton has helped him in his NFL journey. "One of the things that I really wanted during the draft process is to be drafted by a team that had coaches that were just extremely experienced, knew so much to give to me, very knowledgeable and been around the game for a long time and seeing how the game has changed over time and that's exactly what I got," said Nix. "I was fortunate to be drafted by the Broncos and Coach Payton, Coach Lombardi, their offensive scheme; then Davis Webb, my quarterbacks coach, has done an outstanding job of getting me ready for practices, getting me ready for games, getting ready for the season. I've been coached really well, and it starts at the top. Coach Payton has had a history of coaching really good quarterbacks and I'm excited to just learn and grow under him, just be that quarterback that he likes to put out on the football field and can go play for him." After making the playoffs in his rookie year, Nix knows the bar has been raised for the team, and for him personally going into his sophomore year. "Well, the expectations this year are definitely higher, but we like that; that means we're a good football team, that means you have something to play for," said Nix. "We've put together a really good football team. We've added some pieces on both sides of the football. We really feel like in all three phases of the game, we've gotten better this offseason. We're excited to really start playing other teams, and it's fun to compete against each other in practice, but you never know what to expect until you start the season. But the expectations are definitely higher. But that's a good thing, it means you're doing something right." Nix is saying all the things that we expect of a franchise quarterback. Pat Surtain As the reigning Defensive Player of the Year, Surtain was asked, how does it get any better? Surtain gave the perfect response. "I just focus on steadily improving," said Surtain. "What are some nuances throughout my game that I can fix, you know it's about repetition, consistency, I think that's a big component, of how I play, and I just have to keep on putting, you know, the pedal on the gas, trust my technique, trust my ability and each and every time I get out there on this field I try to get better." Some of the big free agents that Broncos brought in also have Surtain thinking about the ceiling the defense can achieve in 2025. "I just think bringing in those guys (Talanoa Hufanga, Dre Greenlaw), they provide a lot of leadership, veteran experience," said Surtain. "Obviously (Hufanga and Greenlaw) have been to Super Bowls and stuff like that. They bring a lot of tenacity on the defense, very confident. That's what we need, even though we had a great defense; adding those two together is like putting icing on the cake. I can't wait to go out there and compete with them boys on Sundays, and we just out here grinding right now on the gridiron but once the season start, we're gonna be sharp." Surtain also recognized the rookie talent the Broncos added through the NFL draft, specifically cornerback Jahdae Barron and running back RJ Harvey. "We added great additions even on the offensive side with Evan (Engram) and we got a couple great young cats as well too, with RJ and Jahdae. I'm just looking forward to the team success and seeing where it takes us from here." Surtain also had a message for Madden, as they excluded him from the elite 99 club: "I just feel like, what else do I have to do at this point," joked Surtain. EA Sports unveils ratings for Broncos rookies in 'Madden 26'
EA Sports has been rolling out ratings for Madden NFL 26 this week with the "99 Club" revealed Monday (Pat Surtain was snubbed) and rookie ratings revealed Wednesday (Jahdae Barron is tied for seventh). Full player ratings are expected to be unveiled on Friday. In the meantime, we now know the ratings for each of Denver's rookies (at least the ones that made it into the video game). Barron, the club's first-round pick, leads the way at 78 overall. Up next is running back RJ Harvey (74 overall), followed by punter Jeremy Crawshaw (71 overall). Ex-Broncos 1st-round pick finds new NFL home, and 4 other players get workouts
Noah Fant has found a new NFL home. Less than two weeks after being cut by the Seattle Seahawks, the 27-year-old tight end is set to sign with the Cincinnati Bengals, NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported Thursday. The news has since been confirmed by other outlets including ESPN and NFL Network. Fant (6-4, 249 pounds) originally entered the league as a first-round pick out of Iowa with the Denver Broncos in 2019. He spent the first three years of his career in Denver, hauling in 170 receptions for 1,905 yards and 10 touchdowns in 47 games. The Broncos traded Fant to Seattle in 2022 as part of the blockbuster deal for quarterback Russell Wilson. In three seasons with the Seahawks, Fant totaled 130 receptions for 1,400 yards and five touchdowns in 48 games. He will now get a fresh start in Cincinnati with Joe Burrow at quarterback. Fant will return to Denver in Week 4 when the Bengals travel to face the Broncos on Monday Night Football on Sept. 29. Elsewhere on the ex-Bronco front, linebacker Justin Hollins and punter Colby Wadman worked out for the Tennessee Titans, defensive lineman Haggai Chisom Ndubuisi worked out for the Houston Texans and wide receiver Marquez Callaway worked out for the San Francisco 49ers.
