Actress
Deepshikha Nagpal
, who is known for her roles in films like Koyla, Baadshah, Dillagi and Partner, recently revisited the controversy surrounding her bold scene with
Amrish Puri
in the 1997 film Koyla. In a recent interview, she recalled how audiences misjudged the character of Bindya Rani, and clarified that her role was far from the sleazy interpretation people often assumed.
'This was the Bindya Rani scene with Amrish Puri,' she told Bollywood Bubble while looking at an old still from the film. 'That character itself was like that—she had to work with Amrish Puri. Nowadays, people often make such scenes sleazy... asking actresses to remove their clothes and all. But this character wasn't like that. She had no choice, and that's why she ended up loving Shah Rukh's character.'
She also praised the aesthetic sensibility of the scene.
'What lighting! Sameer Arya had done fantastic lighting,' Deepshikha added.
'My mom was on set, we all decided together'
The actress shared how director
Rakesh Roshan
handled the sensitive scene with utmost respect and dignity. 'Rakesh ji asked me, 'Deepshikha, this is the kind of scene we need to do. How should we go about it?'' she recalled, emphasizing how even as a newcomer, she was included in the creative process.
With her mother present on set, Deepshikha said they planned every shot carefully.

'I told him, 'No problem, Rakesh ji. How do you want to shoot it?' He said, 'We'll shoot from the front.' I was wearing a tube top, and I said, 'I'll keep my hand like this...''
She clarified that the final shot merely suggested nudity while ensuring she remained covered. 'From the back, I was wearing a swimming costume, and I had my hand placed just so. It was shot in a way that suggested frontal nudity without showing anything,' she explained.
Deepshikha Nagpal talks about domestic violence
On public judgment and owning her choices
Despite the scene being filmed tastefully, the actress revealed she faced harsh judgment after the film's release. 'My mom was watching it all—yes, we did it, but on screen, the impact was Oh my God! And then people judged me: 'Oh my God, she removed her clothes!''
Deepshikha spoke candidly about the double standards actresses face in the industry. 'People won't respect you anymore... But look at today—even heroine, every second actress, are doing lovemaking scenes,' she pointed out. 'So what did I even do back then? I was glamorous—I had good legs, a little cleavage was showing—so what was wrong with that?'
The Bigg Boss 8 contestant concluded on a confident note, saying she stands by her choices. 'I had to do that back then, but I'm not ashamed. I'm very proud of my work.'
