Puspanita launches volunteer squad to boost role in aid, relief efforts
PUTRAJAYA: The National Association of Wives of Civil Servants and Women Civil Servants (Puspanita) today launched the 'Puspanita Volunteer Squad', a new initiative aimed at strengthening the involvement of women civil servants in humanitarian work and disaster relief efforts.
Puspanita patron Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said the establishment of the squad will yield meaningful outcomes for those in need, aligning with the core values of compassion and respect under the Malaysia Madani development agenda.
"This squad is Puspanita's latest initiative, focusing on volunteerism in collaboration with relevant authorities and community groups.
"We want more members of Puspanita to commit themselves to serving the people," she said at the closing ceremony of the 43rd Puspanita delegates general meeting and the official launch of the volunteer squad, here today.
Dr Wan Azizah also highlighted the increasingly significant role of women in the public sector, with many now involved in legislative processes, policy development and national governance.
"We now have more than 30 per cent of women in public sector decision-making positions.
"Therefore, strong support from all of us is essential to ensure the nation's development agenda is implemented smoothly, systematically and with integrity," she said.
She also urged women civil servants to be prepared for the challenges of the digital age and to harness the power of artificial intelligence (AI) to ease both professional and personal responsibilities.
"Today's world moves rapidly, and technological advancements have changed the way we work, think, communicate, manage families and raise children.
"We cannot afford to be left behind.
"At the same time, take the time to understand, monitor and act accordingly to protect ourselves, our children, families and colleagues from the negative impacts of technological progress," she said.
Also present were Chief Secretary to the Government and Puspanita Advisor Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar and Puspanita president Puan Sri Maheran Jamil.

Continue Support, Expand K2K Programme
GENERAL KUALA LUMPUR, June 28 (Bernama) -- Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, wife of the Prime Minister, has called for continued support and expansion of the Kita-Untuk-Kita (K2K) Programme to benefit more communities in public housing areas. The Bandar Tun Razak MP said the programme, launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in April 2023, is part of efforts to empower communities in People's Housing Projects (PPR) in a comprehensive and inclusive manner. She said the programme comprises four key components, namely community empowerment, co-management of public housing, economic and income enhancement, as well as advocacy and policy reform. 'Through the implementation of this strategy, more than 50,000 residents in the Klang Valley are now part of a wave of transformation that is making their communities more resilient and sustainable,' she said in her speech at a ceremony to celebrate the academic excellence of Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) students from PPR Taman Mulia under the programme here today. Also present were political secretary to the Prime Minister, Datuk Azman Abidin and K2K Programme director Dr Shahridan Faiez. Dr Wan Azizah said the PPR Taman Mulia community had chosen to implement the Free SPM Tuition Project under the K2K Community Grant Programme, which not only had a direct impact on over 40 students there but also strengthened the spirit of solidarity and shared responsibility. She said the project had received RM17,052 in funding through the K2K Community Grant, managed by Think City. 'With this funding, a total of 48 classes for core subjects were successfully conducted. In addition, learning facilities such as tables, chairs, printers and projectors were also provided to create a conducive learning environment even after the grant period ends,' she said. She added that the K2K Community Grant not only supports PPR Taman Mulia but also targets 10 public housing areas in the Klang Valley, with a total of 39 community projects worth over RM1 million.

Youth Council Supports Rights To Protest Against Corruption
Malaysian Youth Council (MBM) President Mohd Izzat Afifi Hj Abdul Hamid has urged authorities to take firmer and more transparent action against corruption, while affirming support for the students who organised the recent Gempur Rasuah Sabah 2.0 protest. He welcomed the Prime Minister's directive not to take disciplinary action against Universiti Malaysia Sabah students who staged the demonstration. He said this decision reflects the value of ihsan as outlined in the Malaysia Madani vision. However, he questioned the Royal Malaysia Police's decision to investigate the students under the Sedition Act 1948, saying it contradicts the Prime Minister's guidance. While condemning the act of burning a photograph of the Prime Minister during the protest, he stressed that such actions should not overshadow the protest's underlying message. The students had voiced their rejection of corruption, power abuse and poor governance. He acknowledged the courage of the students and said their concerns reflect the younger generation's deep care for integrity in government. He urged the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to act more decisively and fairly, especially in high-profile cases. According to him, the fight against corruption must be consistent and impartial to restore public trust. Citing Transparency International's 2024 Corruption Perceptions Index, which gave Malaysia a score of 50 and placed the country 57th out of 180 nations, he said this was a clear sign that stronger national action was needed. He called for a 'whole-of-nation' approach and said MBM was ready to act as a bridge between students and agencies like MACC. He also offered MBM's support in organising engagement sessions and policy discussions that involve student voices. He concluded that the fight against corruption must be guided by wisdom, responsibility and courage for the sake of a clean and just Malaysia. 'For truth and justice,' he said. Related
