Cook flees with Malad bizman's 75L gold, diamond jewellery; arrested
The Dindoshi police apprehended the accused, Chotu Mukhiya, in Darbhanga, Bihar, and retrieved Rs 72.57 lakh worth of stolen items from his wife's possession at their Goregaon residence. Mukhiya committed the theft to settle Rs1.5 lakh in debts owed to individuals in Darbhanga.
Probe revealed Mukhiya began working at Gaurav Guwalewala's (44) house on April 19, but resigned on May 17. "Mukhiya became a suspect when it was discovered that he stopped working from May 2, after receiving 12 days' wages for April. Despite working for 17 days, he became unresponsive to Guwalewala's communications and didn't turn up to collect his remaining salary. He had taken the position only to survey the premises," explained a Dindoshi police station officer.
After observing the household routine, Mukhiya executed the theft on May 28, when the family travelled to Ayodhya. The crime was discovered on May 31, when Guwalewala's mother found the cupboard locker damaged. tnn

Walkie-talkies, not cell phones: How robbers tried to evade detection but were still caught by police
When Pimpri Chinchwad police launched a probe after a elderly businessman was robbed at gunpoint at his residence by armed assailants who had tied and gagged him, one detail stood out—there was an unusual absence of mobile activity. After analysing CCTV footage across a staggering 1,200 kilometres upto Rajasthan to arrest the suspects, they finally uncovered the reason—the robbers had used walkie-talkies to communicate with each other. The 76-year-old businessman was robbed at gunpoint at his residence in Nigdi Pradhikaran by armed assailants who had stormed the house on the night of July 19 before tying and gagging him. They had also locked his domestic help's family in the outhouse and fled with gold ornaments and valuables worth over Rs 6 lakh. An FIR was registered at Nigdi police station by the victim Chandrabhan Chhoteram Agarwal, a resident of Nigdi Pradhikaran, following which the Nigdi police and Pimpri Chinchwad police's crime branch launched a joint probe. As part of the initial probe, the investigation teams scanned through over 200 CCTV cameras in the area. The first breakthrough came in when the police team zeroed in one particular car and ascertained that it belonged to the suspects. The police team then traced the route taken by the car for 1,200 kilometers to Jaipur in Rajasthan. On July 24, the police team arrested the first suspect identified as Suresh Laduram Dhaka (29), a notorious criminal with 21 prior cases including attempted murder and armed robberies in Rajasthan and Gujarat. Dhaka was arrested from Shyamnagar in Jaipur. From him, the police recovered jewellery of the victim's wife, her Aadhaar card, the victim's wallet along with four walkie talkie sets. 'When we launched a probe, there was an unusual absence of cell phone activity from the location. We solved that puzzle when we recovered the walkie talkies from the suspect. They had been using walkie talkies among themselves to avoid getting detected,' said an officer who is part of the probe. Subsequent to leads obtained from Dhaka, the police team zeroed in on another suspect—Mahipal Ramlal Bishnoi (19), a native of Jodhpur but currently working at Vadgaon Maval in Pune district. Bishnoi was arrested on July 27 from Talegaon area of Pune. Police have launched a manhunt for four more suspects including a woman, who has been identified as part of the investigation. ED attaches properties worth over Rs 200 crore in Goa land grab scam
The Panaji zonal office of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has attached immovable properties, with an estimated total value of over Rs 212 crore, located across the state in connection with an alleged land grab scam in Goa. In a statement on Wednesday, the ED said the provisional attachment order was issued in connection with an ongoing investigation into a land-grabbing and forgery conspiracy perpetrated by an organised criminal syndicate allegedly led by one Rohan Harmalkar and his accomplices. Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) leader and businessman Rohan Harmalkar was arrested by the ED on June 3 for allegedly hatching a conspiracy to illegally appropriate land through forged title deeds and selling several properties unlawfully. Harmalkar unsuccessfully contested the 2022 Goa Assembly election as an Independent candidate from the Cumbarjua constituency after he was denied a ticket by the BJP. He joined the MGP in 2024. He was arrested after the ED carried out multiple raids on April 24 and 25 under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). At the time, the ED said the searches uncovered 'voluminous incriminating property documents' whose estimated current market value exceeds Rs 1,000 crore, including forged title deeds, indicating manipulation of land records and fraudulent transfers of high-value land parcels spanning several lakhs of square metres in prime tourist hotspots. The ED said it initiated the investigation on the basis of two FIRs registered by the Goa Police against Harmalkar and other co-accused on charges of forgery, cheating, impersonation, and use of counterfeit documents to fraudulently acquire land parcels in North Goa. The ED alleged the 'investigation revealed that Harmalkar, in active conspiracy with…others, orchestrated a meticulously planned criminal enterprise to misappropriate multiple high-value properties situated in Anjuna, Revora, Nadora, Camurlim, Parra, and other adjoining areas falling within Bardez taluka and Mapusa.' 'The PMLA investigation disclosed the use of forged genealogical records, fabricated sale deeds, counterfeit wills, manipulated inventory proceedings and other fraudulent documents, by the accused, to falsely claim title over valuable immovable properties and to camouflage the same as legitimately held assets thereby generating substantial Proceeds of Crime as defined under section 2(1)(u) of the PMLA,' the ED said. The ED also alleged that a part of the proceeds of crime was received directly by Harmalkar and others, and was subsequently routed through the accounts of their family members and associates. 'So far, multiple immovable properties constituting direct proceeds of crime, valued at over Rs 212.85 crore, have been identified and provisionally attached under the provisions of the PMLA, 2002,' it said.

3,400 offer letters against 135 seats: VNSGU issues penalty notice of Rs 3.62 lakh to society running MTB Arts College
The Veer Narmad South Gujarat University (VNSGU) on Wednesday served a penalty notice of Rs 3.62 lakh to Sarvajanik Education Society, which runs MTB Arts College, for issuing around 3,400 call (offer) letters to students against 135 vacant seats for BA first year admissions. ABVP members had a few days ago held the college principal — who was later removed from the post — hostage in his own office to mark their protest over the issue. The South Gujarat College Teachers Association had condemned the incident. On July 10, a large number of students were in the pipeline for first-year undergraduate admissions in the Arts stream at MTB Arts College. However, on receiving call letters from the college, when these students learnt that there were only 135 seats left, they protested. Leaders and members of the ABVP's Surat unit subsequently reached the spot and joined the students in their protest. The ABVP also handed a memorandum to the college in-charge principal and VNSGU Vice-Chancellor Dr K N Chavda and urged him to take action against the college authorities for the 'mistake'. After receiving notice from the VNSGU, Dr Rudresh Vyas, who was the in-charge principal of MTB Arts College, said that the 'technical mistake' was made by college clerk Sagar Rana, who had issued over 3,400 call letters to students while only 135 seats were available. ABVP leaders in Surat held a protest on Sunday again and entered the office of then Principal Vyas on the college campus. Vyas was allegedly held hostage for eight hours and was not allowed to take his medicines. Vyas later submitted a written complaint at Umra police station against the ABVP members, after which the police launched a probe. Umra Police Inspector J A Rathwa said, 'We have started a probe in the matter and are trying to identify those who had entered the principal's office with the help of a video of the incident that had gone viral.' Chairman of the Sarvajanik Education Society, Bharat Shah, said: 'After the issue came into light, we issued a notice to the in-charge principal Dr Rudresh Vyas. He responded that the mistake was made by a clerk and distanced himself from all responsibilities. We have removed him from the post of in-charge principal of MTB Arts college, but he will still serve as professor with the grant-in-aid college, which is affiliated to VNSGU.' He further said, 'We have written a letter to the VNSGU stating that the college is run by an education society, which cannot bear such a heavy penalty amount, and so it should be waived. We are running over 12 colleges, which have thousands of students. The act done by the ABVP is unpardonable, and it is unethical to hold an in-charge college principal hostage in his own office. We also want the police to take strict legal actions against the the ABVP members involved in the incident.' South Gujarat College Teachers Association president Ajay Naik said, 'We condemn the incident, which saw Dr Rudresh Vyas being held hostage by ABVP members for eight hours and not being allowed to take his medicines of diabetes. Legal actions should be taken against those involved in such an act.' When contacted, Vyas refused to comment on the issue.
