CM's deadline was May, but Noida airport launch is still months away

Time of India17-06-2025
Noida: UP chief minister
Yogi Adityanath
had set a deadline of May 15 for domestic flights operations from Noida International Airport and June 25 for international operations during a review meet in March.
But UP chief secretary Manoj Kumar Singh's visit Tuesday confirmed the project is still several months away from completion, with key infrastructure components unfinished.
Singh, who inspected the progress of work at airport's terminal building and aerodrome licence, met officials from concessionaire Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL), Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Airports Authority of India (AAI) and National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
"This project is linked to the state's prestige. It must be completed as per the timeline and according to the highest quality standards," Singh told officials, adding that the airport was pivotal to several multi-crore investments in the city.
With the first deadline already missed and less than two weeks to go for the second, critical facilities, like the water treatment plant (WTP), sewage treatment plant (STP), and parts of the terminal building and runway system, are still incomplete.

A TOI report on April 30 had flagged that the airport was unlikely to meet the May target.
As of now, the greenfield project has already missed multiple launch timelines. Its original deadline of Sept 29, 2024, was revised to April 17 this year and then again to May as work on the terminal building was pending.
Officials said construction is still underway, and the airport has yet to receive security clearance from the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) and an aerodrome licence from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
Officials on Tuesday said a revised timeline would be announced soon, but no date has been confirmed.
With the current pace, the project is nearly a year behind schedule. While the current construction status has not been officially disclosed, the overall physical progress of the project till March 10 was 80%. The runway and associated airside infrastructure, which were 90% complete, were to be ready by April. The passenger terminal building was only 80% complete, with steel roofing and internal finishing still underway.
The water and sewage treatment plants, both 40% complete, were significantly behind schedule. Though the ATC building was to be completed by March 31, the commissioning of CNS/ATM systems by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) was projected only by April 30.
Earlier, UP has imposed a fine of Rs 10 lakh per day on concessionaire YIAPL from Jan 1 for the delay in completing the project. Despite this, progress has remained slower than expected.
During his inspection, Singh reviewed the terminal building, runway, Air Traffic Control (ATC) tower, and drainage infrastructure meant to connect the airport's wastewater system to the Pathwaya drain. He urged officials to expedite pending work and warned against any compromise in quality.
Senior officials have been asked to conduct regular reviews and work closely with Tata Projects, the construction of the airport, to resolve bottlenecks and ensure accountability.
Spread over 1,334 hectares, Noida International Airport will be the third commercial airport in the NCR, after Delhi's IGI and Ghaziabad's Hindon civil terminal. The foundation stone was laid in Nov 2021.
Singh also visited Bankapur to review the drainage link plan and directed departments concerned to implement it immediately to avoid commissioning delays.

Centre approves Rs 1,900 crore plan for PM MITRA park in Virudhunagar

CHENNAI: In a significant boost to the state government's ambition to cement its position as India's textile powerhouse, Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh on Tuesday announced the approval of a Rs 1,894-crore development plan for the Pradhan Mantri Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel (PM MITRA) Park coming up in Virudhunagar district. The 1,052-acre site will host a next-generation textile manufacturing ecosystem focused on technical textiles and integrated processing units. It is one of seven PM MITRA parks being developed nationwide under the centre's flagships scheme aimed at catalysing India's textiles sector with world-class infrastructure, policy support and investment incentives. The project, which was formalised in 2023, is the outcome of prolonged negotiations between Chief Minister M K Stalin's administration and Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh. State Industries Minister T R B Rajaa termed the approval as a big boost for TN's textile sector and called it 'a result of relentless follow-up and collaboration'. Works are targeted for completion by September 2026, with the state government projecting Rs 10,000 crore in investments and creation of one lakh jobs. 'TN is already India's top textile exporter, and now we're scaling up with ambition,' said Rajaa. Planned features include a 15-MLD common effluent treatment plant with zero liquid discharge, a 5-MLD sewage treatment plant, 10,000-bed worker accommodation and 1.3 million sq ft of plug-and-play and built-to-suit factory space. Tamil Nadu joins six other states — Telangana, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh — chosen to host PM MITRA parks.
