New Delhi:
As her maiden production, Subham, is all set to light up the silver screen on May 9, 2025, Samantha Ruth Prabhu has opened up about taking risks. Reflecting on her journey in cinema, the actress-producer calls it essential for growth and reveals that after 15 years in the industry, fear has long been eclipsed by passion and purpose.
In an industry where risks are inevitable, especially for first-time producers, how did Samantha manage her fears or doubts during the making of Subham?
'You can't expect meaningful change without taking risks, and I don't think I've ever shied away from taking risks. More often than not, those risks have paid off, so probably after 15 years of learning and of being an actor, I believe I've gained that kind of insight and experience needed to be sure of the stories I want to tell,' Samantha told IANS.
The versatile star talked about her production banner, Tra La La Moving Pictures, and said that it has an incredible team.
'We are confident that we support each other fully, and we are committed to putting out work that's intentional and never half-hearted,' added Samantha, who has been feted with two Nandi Awards and a Tamil Nadu State Film Award for her acting prowess.
One of South cinema's most talented stars, Samantha, stepped into the world of cinema in 2010 with Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa and gained spotlight in Gautham Vasudev Menon's Telugu film, Ye Maaya Chesave.
In her 15-years worth of a journey, Samantha has worked on some of the finest projects, such as Neethaane En Ponvasantham, Eega, Dookudu, Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu, Attarintiki Daredi, Mahanati, Kaththi, Theri, 24, Mersal, A Aa, Oh! Baby, Super Deluxe, Majili, Rangasthalam, and the OTT thriller series The Family Man.
Samantha agrees that acting is rewarding; however, producing has been more fulfilling as it lets her be part of the entire filmmaking process.
Talking about how different the experience has been compared to being an actor on set, Samantha said, "While I have no complaints about being an actor, I think it's just one part of the movie-making process. And when you're a producer, I think that there's so much to learn about every aspect of movie-making. And it is incredibly fulfilling to be part of the entire process holistically. I think that I've learned so much producing this film, much more than I learned just being an actor.'
The actress feels like she is just getting started, and there's so much more to learn, and there's so much more to contribute.
Now that Samantha has stepped into the world of filmmaking, what kind of stories is she wanting to champion as a producer?
The actress responded, 'I don't want to limit myself to a specific type of film. I'm open to exploring a wide range of stories, but naturally, as a woman, my perspective will shape the kind of narratives that I'm drawn to and the kind of stories that I want to produce. I think that's where the difference lies.
She added, 'I mean, not in restriction, but I think probably in the unique lens that I probably bring to this whole storytelling process."
Talking about Subham, the trailer was unveiled on April 29, 2025, and it promises a genre-defying family entertainer packed with humor, horror, and suspense.

Hari Hara Veera Mallu box office collection day 2: Pawan Kalyan's film sees a massive drop but surpasses ₹50 crore mark

Hari Hara Veera Mallu box office collection Day 2: Despite securing one of the highest openings of his career, Pawan Kalyan's film failed to attract audiences on its second day, resulting in a steep decline in box office collections. However, despite the drop, the film has crossed the ₹50 crore mark. Pawan Kalyan's still from Hari Hara Veera Mallu. Hari Hara Veera Mallu box office report According to Sacnilk, Pawan Kalyan's film collected ₹34.75 crore on its opening day. The film received a lukewarm response from both critics and audiences, which has undoubtedly impacted its box office performance. As per the trade tracking site, the film witnessed a significant drop and earned only ₹7.77 crore on Day 2. Nevertheless, the film has managed to take its total collection to ₹55.27 crore. On Friday, Hari Hara Veera Mallu recorded an overall Telugu occupancy rate of 21.71%, with 17.75% for morning shows, 20.17% in the afternoon, and 27.21% in the evening. Even Ram Charan's Game Changer had a massive opening, earning ₹51 crore on Day 1, but saw a drop of over 57% on Day 2, collecting only ₹21.6 crore. The film eventually turned out to be a box office bomb. It remains to be seen whether Pawan Kalyan's film will be able to draw audiences over the weekend. The film has also faced boycott calls on social media. During a success meet in Hyderabad, Pawan addressed the issue and encouraged his fans to remain strong. He said, 'I specifically want to tell something to my fans. Meeru antha sunnitham ga undakandi ayya (Don't be so sensitive). Why are you all feeling down because someone has said something? I am the one being beaten down; you enjoy life, feel free. Don't feel bad for every comment on social media. Dhammunte tirigi kottandi, etla daadi cheyyalo cheyyandi (If you have the guts, hit back). Chew out all the negative aspects.' About Hari Hara Veera Mallu The Telugu-language period action-adventure film is directed by Krish Jagarlamudi and A. M. Jyothi Krishna, from a screenplay by Jagarlamudi and Sai Madhav Burra. The film stars Pawan Kalyan in the titular role, alongside Bobby Deol and Nidhhi Agerwal in key roles. It tells the story of an outlaw named Veera Mallu, who comes face-to-face with Aurangzeb in his quest for the Koh-i-Noor. An excerpt from Hindustan Times' review of the film reads: "HHVM has been in production for over half a decade, and while the makers had their own mountains to climb, the film just feels like a wasted opportunity. Where Laxman Utekar's Vicky Kaushal-starrer Chhaava succeeds in making you root for the resistance against Aurangzeb's tyranny, this film meanders while pretending to have a purpose for it all. Does HHVM have moments where you see the potential? Sure. But a story like this needed a deft hand, which it lacks."

A cinema hall in London was forced to halt a film screening midway on July 24 due to disruptive behaviour from audience members. The incident was caught on camera and the footage has since gone viral on social media. In the video, shared on X, two staff members from the theatre can be seen confronting a group of patrons after they were reportedly causing a disturbance. According to the video circulating online, the disruption occurred during a screening of the Telugu film Hari Hara Veera Mallu, starring Pawan Kalyan, at a Cineworld cinema. The film was paused after some individuals in the audience were seen creating a mess during the show. The movie officially premiered on Thursday, July 24, with paid previews available a day earlier. One user on social media alleged that fans of the Telugu star were throwing confetti and causing a general disturbance. 'The staff rightly stopped the film and called them out. This kind of hooliganism is unacceptable and deserves strong condemnation," the caption read. The video also showed members of the audience engaging in a verbal exchange with the cinema staff. Some argued that there were no official notices or posters stating that such behaviour was prohibited. One attendee even raised a complaint about the sound system. — Meru (@MeruBhaiya) July 24, 2025 Following the viral video, several social media users voiced their disappointment over the incident, supporting the cinema staff's actions in confronting those responsible. A number of commenters criticised the behaviour of the audience, with some calling for better civic awareness among certain cinemagoers. The film, which had been re-released after 20 years, faced a similar disruption when the audience became unruly. First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
