Woman, Who Just Turned 107, Reveals Her Simple Secret to a Long and Happy Life
Mildred Baron, who was born in 1918, credits her positive mindset for seeing her through the Great Depression, World War II and the COVID-19 pandemicNEED TO KNOW New Jersey resident Mildred Baron, who turned 107 in June, is sharing her simple secret to a long and happy life She said it's all about having a positive mindset 'Be very calm, be peaceful and adopt my saying: 'This too shall pass,' ' she explainedFor centenarian Mildred Baron, life is all about having a positive mindset. The Freehold, N.J., resident, who celebrated her 107th birthday in June, is sharing her simple secret to enjoying a long and happy life. "Be very calm, be peaceful and adopt my saying: 'This too shall pass,' ' she told local outlet Asbury Park Press (APP). Baron said that spirit has carried her through many ups and downs across the decades. Born in 1918 to a Jewish family in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was a toddler when the Prohibition era began in the U.S. She then experienced the World War II, the Great Depression and the COVID-19 pandemic. She recalled watching all of the men she knew get drafted into the war in '40s. 'But as I said, that too, passed,' she noted. Baron also remembered standing in breadlines during the Great Depression and her mother feeding her family of five with a single sack of potatoes. During WWII, Baron found a job in accounting and continued the occupation for 42 years until her retirement. These days, she enjoys a full life that includes eating spicy foods, creating 3D art and attending afternoon cocktail parties with friends. After joking to APP that beer is her drink of choice, Baron quickly changed her answer to ginger ale. "Can't go wrong with that,' she said. Baron also relishes time with family, including her 80-year-old daughter, Bonnie Greenstein, two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Greenstein described her mother to APP as "intelligent" and "a talented artist [who] knows what's going on in the world." "She just gets it," Greenstein told the outlet. Shortly before her 100th birthday in 2018, Baron moved into the Applewood Village senior living community, where she is "always the life of the party," according to the residence's executive director, Keith Grady. "She's always been a concerned resident for others, just a real great neighbor to have," he said. As for her hopes for the future, Baron told APP that she would "like to see peace in this world." "All over," she said. "I don't think I'll see it, but hopefully it'll happen someday." Baron is one of 2,367 residents in New Jersey who are 100 years old or older as of 2025, according to World Population Review. She is five years younger than the oldest verified living person in the state, 112-year-old Launa Mitchell of Lakewood, according to LongeviQuest. Today's Wordle #1506 Hints And Answer For Sunday, August 3rd
Looking for Saturday's Wordle hints, clues and answer? You can find them here: How To Solve Today's Wordle Lazy Sunday is here and it's lovely outside. The birds are chirping. The sun is shining. Children play in the street. Up here in the high desert mountains, it's almost time for school to start back up. My tenth grader goes back to school Monday. He is not thrilled by this, and I can't say I am, either. We've been spoiled, sleeping in and staying up late enjoying the lovely summer evenings. Thankfully, school starts an hour later this year so it's a bit less of a shock to the system. But enough about school! Let's educate ourselves with today's Wordle. Wordle is a daily word puzzle game where your goal is to guess a hidden five-letter word in six tries or fewer. After each guess, the game gives feedback to help you get closer to the answer: Use these clues to narrow down your guesses. Every day brings a new word, and everyone around the world is trying to solve the same puzzle. Some Wordlers also play Competitive Wordle against friends, family, the Wordle Bot or even against me, your humble narrator. See rules for Competitive Wordle toward the end of this post. Today's Wordle Hints And Answer Wordle Bot's Starting Word: SLATE My Starting Word Today: CRATE (343 words remaining) The Hint: Not smooth The Clue: This Wordle ends in a 'Y' Okay, spoilers below! The answer is coming! . . . Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot right here. I was shocked every time I guessed today. CRATE is a great opening word most of the time. Today it turned up zero yellow or green boxes and, I later learned, left me with 343 possible solutions. I was surprised that BOINK turned up all grey boxes once again. I still had 45 words remaining (though I didn't know that at the time). I actually said 'Oh wow!' when my third guess, LUMPY, turned up all green boxes. What luck! I mean, it was a very reasonable guess given the circumstances, and I knew I'd turn up at least a 'U' guessing it, but to get the Wordle this way felt almost like a hole in one. Finally, on day three, I get a win, though the Bot remains pretty far in the lead. I get 1 point for guessing in three and 1 for beating the Bot. The Bot gets 0 for guessing in four and -1 for losing to me. Our August total become: Erik: -2 points Wordle Bot: 1 points The word "lumpy" comes from "lump" + the adjective-forming suffix "-y." Thus, "lumpy" has meant "full of lumps" or "having an uneven, bumpy texture" since the late 15th century.
