The loss was compounded by a devastating first-quarter injury to star guard Tyrese Haliburton, who tore his Achilles just seven minutes into the game. At the time of the injury, Haliburton had already scored nine points and appeared poised to deliver a signature performance on the league's biggest stage. His early exit proved costly, as the Pacers struggled offensively in his absence and were unable to keep pace with the Thunder.
Despite the somber ending, Haliburton drew praise across the NBA for his playoff performance and the composure he displayed throughout the postseason. On Tuesday's episode of First Take, ESPN's Brian Windhorst offered a heartfelt reflection on what Haliburton had still 'won,' even as Indiana fell short of the title.
'Tyrese, I know that you did not win this game and I know that you are facing a long recovery,' Windhorst said. 'But you did win something: You won over millions of new fans because if you didn't know Tyrese Haliburton and the type of player he is and the type of clutch player he is, you know him now after seeing those shots.'

Haliburton had averaged 17.3 points, 8.6 assists, and 5.3 rebounds per game throughout the 2025 NBA Playoffs and had been instrumental in the Pacers' victories over the Milwaukee Bucks, Boston Celtics, and New York Knicks. His high basketball IQ, elite passing, and timely shot-making were central to Indiana's deep run.

Windhorst emphasized that Haliburton's reputation around the league had also reached new heights.
'The second thing is you won over the respect of everybody in this league because I'm watching on social media as all of these players are reacting to seeing this moment,' Windhorst said. 'They all respect what you did… Tyrese may have not gotten a championship, but he made a statement for the rest of his life the way he handled himself in this situation and over the last two months.'
The Thunder, led by league MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, capitalized on the Pacers' misfortune and delivered a strong second half to secure the franchise's first NBA championship since relocating to Oklahoma City. Gilgeous-Alexander finished Game 7 with 29 points and was named Finals MVP.
Windhorst concluded by noting Haliburton's early rhythm in Game 7 and how it could have altered the outcome.

'One of the biggest, heartbreaking things about this whole situation is he was playing great,' Windhorst added. 'I hate to say it, but he might've scored 40 points in this game… we'll never know.'
Though the Pacers fell short of the title, Haliburton's emergence as a franchise cornerstone and respected league figure remained one of the defining stories of the 2025 NBA Playoffs.

Rebounding also played a role as the Fever beat the Wings 32-23 in that area. Three players scored in double-digits on Dallas' behalf, including Bueckers. The Indianapolis Colts are key contributors to the AFC South's low ranking when it comes to quarterback play. The Nick Shook recently ranked each of the eight divisions by their quarterback play, and coming in at the bottom of this list at No. 8 was the AFC South. He weighed in at 216 pounds and, despite the pulled hamstring, even participated in the bench press competition where he recorded nine reps of 225 pounds. Georgia is trending in Prothro's recruitment but Auburn and a handful of other teams are in pursuit. Georgia poised to sign an elite tight end class The caliber of defender Georgia commit Lincoln Keyes faced at Five-Star was new to him and it was good for the national analyst team to evaluate him under these conditions. The Michigan native is a very impressive prospect with great hands and the ability to make tough catches over the middle and down the field. He'll be a very reliable target for Georgia quarterbacks when he gets on the field in Athens but that could take some time. Keyes has a well-rounded game but he could find it difficult to consistently create separation from defenders when he reaches the next level. Advertisement That being said, the style Keyes plays with would complement Prothro's skillset beautifully, if both do end up signing with Georgia. The two highly ranked tight ends were frequently seen chatting and playing catch during the down time on Tuesday. That relationship appears to be fairly strong and could pay dividends for the Dawgs down the road. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH GEORGIA FANS AT Holden Niemi makes strong impression Holden Niemi was a late addition to the Rivals Five-Star roster and took advantage of the opportunity to make a strong impression. The 2027 prospect out of Illinois is fairly well-developed from a physical perspective and showed strong athletic traits throughout the workout on Tuesday. Advertisement Adjusting to the variety of quarterbacks seemed to be a bit challenging for him at times, which resulted in passes falling incomplete. Niemi is only heading into his junior season so there is plenty of time for him to make adjustments to his game before he reaches the next level. He is, however, on the smaller side when it comes to the trends that have emerged in the NFL Draft for tight ends so keeping an eye on his physical growth will be a focus going forward. Sneed's impact shouldn't be overlooked Tennessee tight end commit Carson Sneed posted impressive measurements during registration on Monday and he had plenty of bright spots on the field Tuesday. At 6-foot-6, 246 pounds, Sneed is fairly lean but plays with a great deal of strength, which showed when linebackers and defensive backs bounced off of him as they tried to disrupt his routes. Advertisement He isn't the most natural receiver but there is plenty of potential to get excited about, which is surely part of the reason why Florida, North Carolina and others are trying to pry him away from the Volunteers.
