Saudi: Diriyah's major infrastructure set for 2027 completion, says Inzerillo
"The major infrastructure will include 60,000 underground parking spaces, pedestrian-friendly zones, and state-of-the-art facilities that seamlessly integrate with the city's historical heritage."
Speaking at the PIF Private Sector Forum in Riyadh, Inzerillo emphasized Diriyah Square stands as a defining feature of the city's transformation.
"The commercial and cultural district, currently under construction, features 83 tower cranes operating at full capacity. Once complete, it will include a 1.9-kilometer boulevard, our own version of the Champs-Élysées, housing Saudi Arabia's contemporary art museum, a 20,000-seat arena, an exhibition center, an opera house, and the largest Apple store in the world."
"Diriyah, the birthplace of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, is undergoing an unprecedented $64 billion transformation, positioning itself as a global destination and a model for sustainable, walkable urban development," he added.
"Currently, 40,000 workers are on-site daily, driving forward the development of Diriyah, including major infrastructural enhancements and hospitality expansions," Inzerillo stated.
"The UNESCO World Heritage Site in Diriyah has already welcomed three million visitors, with projections set to reach 27 million by 2030."
"Despite still being in development, Diriyah is already generating revenue, with operating income expected to surpass projections for 2025," he revealed. "Early residential sales have reached between SR13 billion and SR14 billion in advanced deposits. Luxury properties, including Ritz-Carlton, Raffles, and Oberoi-branded residences, have sold out, while five of the 37 Aman Villas were purchased within three days of their release."
"These are not hypothetical sales; these are deposited sales," Inzerillo emphasized. "We are also seeing growing confidence from international investors, including Italian and Colombian developers, as well as rising interest from Qatari and Emirati buyers."
"Diriyah is a flagship Vision 2030 project, with its rapid progress aligning with Saudi Arabia's broader economic transformation," he continued.
"The Kingdom is experiencing an influx of multinational corporations establishing headquarters, a shift driven by growing confidence in the country and its evolving business-friendly environment."
"Saudi Arabia achieved G20 status faster than any other nation," Inzerillo noted, highlighting the Kingdom's strategic position in the global economy.
"Diriyah's rise as a cultural and investment hub aligns with Saudi Arabia's growing portfolio of international events, including Expo 2030, the 2027 Asian Football Games, and the 2034 FIFA World Cup."
"As Riyadh's population is set to reach 12 million, Diriyah is emerging as the city's pedestrian-friendly, high-quality lifestyle hub," he said.
"Spanning 14.2 million square meters—equivalent to Beverly Hills, California—it will feature 40 luxury hotels, 30,000 residences, and an extensive range of retail and dining options. Adjacent to Diriyah, Wadi Safar will host high-end resorts from Aman, Six Senses, and Chetty, along with a 27-hole Greg Norman-designed golf course."
Inzerillo suggested that Diriyah could be publicly listed in the future, following the trend of other PIF-backed giga-projects. "With strong return on investment (ROI) and increasing interest from both local and international investors, Diriyah is well-positioned for long-term financial sustainability," he said.

Italy fines fast-fashion giant Shein for ‘green' claims
Italy's competition watchdog said on Monday it has fined the company responsible for Shein's websites in Europe one million euros ($1.15 million) for false and confusing claims about the e-commerce giant's efforts to be environmentally "green". The AGCM watchdog accuses the China-founded fast-fashion colossal of having "adopted a misleading communication strategy regarding the characteristics and environmental impact of its clothing products". The fine was imposed on Infinite Styles Services Co. Ltd, the company responsible for managing Shein's product trading websites in Europe, the watchdog said in a statement. The AGCM accused it of "misleading and/or deceptive environmental messages and claims... in the promotion and sale of Shein-branded clothing products". These were "in some instances, vague, generic, and/or overly emphatic, and in others, misleading or omissive". In particular, claims about the recyclability of products "were found to be either false or at least confusing", it said. Consumers could easily be led to believe Shein products were made exclusively from sustainable materials and fully recyclable, "a statement which, given the fibres used and current recycling systems, does not reflect reality". The AGCM also took issue with the retailer's claims it would reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 25 percent by 2030 and reach zero emissions by 2050. These "vague" pledges by a company which has seen phenomenal growth in recent years were "contradicted by an actual increase in Shein's greenhouse gas emissions in 2023 and 2024", it said. Environmentalists have long warned of the damage wreaked by the fast-fashion sector's wasteful trend of mass producing low-cost clothes that are quickly thrown away. Fast fashion uses up massive amounts of water, produces hazardous chemicals and clogs up landfills in poor countries with textile waste, while also generating greenhouse gases in production, transport and disposal. Shein did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Agence France-Presse

Spotify to raise premium subscription price in select markets from September
Spotify said on Monday it would increase monthly price of its premium individual subscription in select markets from September, as the Swedish streaming giant looks to improve margins. The company's shares jumped nearly 8%. They have gained about 40% so far this year. The subscription price will rise to 11.99 euros ($13.86) per month from 10.99 euros in markets including South Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe, Latin America and the Asia-Pacific region. Spotify said subscribers will receive an email explaining the price rise over the next month. Price increases in the past, combined with cost-cutting efforts in recent years, have helped it to achieve its first annual profit for 2024. The company saw an increase in monthly active users and premium subscribers during the second quarter, while higher taxes related to employee salaries led it to post a loss during the period and weighed on its third-quarter profit forecast. Spotify has been expanding its library of video content to attract subscribers, including through its partner program, which is designed to help podcast creators by offering them monetization options. A growing number of creators are joining the Spotify Partner Program, resulting in a significant increase in video content on the platform, CEO Daniel Ek had earlier told Reuters. The streaming company is also benefiting from Apple's approval of its U.S. app update to show subscription prices and external payment links, after a judge barred the iPhone maker from charging commission on off-app purchases. Ek said this change has led to "a very positive uptick" in the U.S. If similar rules are adopted in Europe and the UK, it would benefit both Spotify and other app developers.
