Nebraska misses out on linebacker Calvin Thomas after he commits to North Carolina
Thomas is the No. 26 overall linebacker in the 2026 class and the No. 45 overall player in his class from the state of Texas, according to the On3 recruiting rankings. Thomas visited Nebraska most recently on June 13 for an official visit.
This is certainly a disappointing recruiting loss for the program. Thomas would have been a great addition to the linebacker room. He recorded 69 tackles, seven sacks, and an interception last season, according to statistics from Maxpreps.com.
Currently, the 2026 Nebraska football recruiting class ranks No. 47 overall and No. 15 in the Big Ten. They have a total of 12 commitments, according to the On3 recruiting rankings. This has the makings of a smaller recruiting class.
The Huskers were once considered a favorite for Thomas, but ultimately the Tar Heels prevailed. Nevertheless, the Huskers have a solid stable of linebackers, both currently on the roster and for the future.

Texas A&M's 2026 recruiting class is now 25 commitments deep after landing four-star safety/linebacker Tamarion Watkins on Monday afternoon, which was preceded by the news that four-star wide receiver Jace Mathews out of Mississippi placed the Aggies in his final four program list alongside Auburn, LSU, and Ole Miss. If the decision came today, they'd have a real shot.' Mathews is considered one of the best route runners in the 2026 class, with excellent separation skills, soft hands, and impressive downfield burst. During his 2024 junior season, Mathews reeled in 1,138 yards and 15 touchdowns, and will more than likely play in the slot at the next level. After his official visit to College Station on June 13, the Aggie staff has stayed in constant contact with the standout receiver. Set to announce his decision on August 8, all four programs, especially Auburn and LSU, still have time to make progress. However, after securing Tamarion Watkins' commitment over South Carolina, Texas A&M's recruiting momentum has surpassed nearly every program this summer and should continue into next month. Colorado, Central Michigan football transfer commits to Michigan State as a long snapper
Michigan State football has made another addition to their roster for the upcoming season, this time, building some depth in their special teams units. Aidan "Vending Machine" DeCorte has made his commitment to Michigan State following his transfer from Colorado. A 6-foot-1, 300 pounder, DeCorte is a Jackson, Michigan native, attending Jackson High School. He started his college career at Central Michigan, before transferring to Colorado, and now is returning to his home state to join the Spartans. Having yet to record a stat in his collegiate career, DeCorte looks to provide depth behind Kaden Schickel, who is a redshirt senior this season, and will have a void behind him next season. UNC basketball makes cut for top 10 player in 2026 class
As the Summer continues on, college basketball recruiting will heat up with the open period beginning in July. For the North Carolina Tar Heels they wrapped up a top 10 2025 recruiting class headlined by five-star forward Caleb Wilson. As they welcome that class on campus for the upcoming season, Hubert Davis and his staff continue to build for 2026. Advertisement One target they have on their recruiting board is five-star forward Miikka Muurinen. The Compass Prep product out of Arizona is one of the best players in the 2026 recruiting class, drawing 13 offers so far. He's set some official visits to Arkansas and Michigan this September but on Friday, he officially cut his list down to a final seven. Per Joe Tipton of On3, Muurinen is down to North Carolina, Duke, Kentucky, Michigan, NC State, and Indiana in his recruitment. The 6-foot-10, 185-pound recruit is ranked No. 9 nationally, the No. 2 power forward and the No. 1 player in the state of Arizona per the 247Sports recruiting rankings.
