Kobie Turner enjoyed paradise with the rest of his Los Angeles Rams teammates in Maui for minicamp. But he was also reflective on what could've been for the 2024 team.

The interior defensive lineman star and L.A. had the Philadelphia Eagles facing elimination. Philly ultimately escaped 28-22 in a snow covered Lincoln Financial Field.
Turner and the Rams defense did everything they could to try to knock off the Eagles. He led all defensive linemen that day with five solo stops including two for a loss.
Was it really Saquon Barkley who killed off the Rams' 2024 season. Turner told Rams reporter J.B. Long that it was much more than that.

"Over the course of this last year, what killed us was a lot of the big plays – in particular, a lot of big runs,' Turner explained.

Barkley wasn't the sole running back who gashed the Rams, by Turner's admission.
"If you really look at a lot of those games where we gave up a bunch of rushing yards, it wasn't every single play they're getting a bunch of yards. It was a couple of those plays where we fit it up wrong or a couple of those plays where maybe we got caught out," Turner said.
Barkley scored two touchdowns of 70+ yards during their regular season meeting. L.A. ranked 22nd against rushing yardage. They also surrendered a 36-yard TD run from D'Andre Swift in the 24-18 loss to the Chicago Bears.
The plan is simple moving forward for the 2025 Rams defense, with Turner now entering season three.

"It's about minimizing those big plays," he said. "I mean, that's what the league is nowadays. Obviously, the points matter the most, the turnover margin matters the second-most but after that it's the explosive plays.'
There'll be new optimism for this Rams run defense. Braden Fiske is expected to return from his late season right knee ailment. The team also drafted talented run stuffer Chris Paul Jr. out of Ole Miss. Then there's Jared Verse entering season two after establishing himself as the league's top defensive rookie.

Bill Belichick thankful to be coaching UNC, highlights team growth at ACC Kickoff

What type of player does Bill Belichick like to coach? Larry Fedora fizzled out. Mack Brown didn't work during his second stint. This offseason, the UNC football team went big with its latest head coaching hire: 8-time Super Bowl Champion Bill Belichick. Despite never previously coaching at the college level, Belichick's NFL resumé speaks for itself. He turned the New England Patriots from a decent franchise into the NFL's most-feared dynasty, developing the greatest football player to walk this earth in Tom Brady. Belichick is no stranger to the Tar Heels, though. Belichick's dad, Steve, was an assistant coach in Chapel Hill from 1953-1955. At the ACC Kickoff event on Thursday afternoon in Charlotte, Belichick spoke about the opportunity to come back and coach college football, digging in on player development. 'I've always wanted to coach in college – and I'm glad to have the opportunity to be at a great school like Carolina," Belichick said in front of a packed media room. "The great thing about working with college players is the growth and development that I've seen with them. Developing players is really what coaching is. We take great pride in that. A Carolina player is a player who wants to be a good football player, who wants to work hard, who wants to make a commitment towards improving on a regular basis, both training and team execution on the field." UNC hired Belichick back in December 2024, so he's now going on month seven working with his new players. Several people are expecting a championship-caliber Tar Heels team in 2025, but it all depends on how Belichick develops his guys. The first opportunity for North Carolina fans – and the entire college football world – to see offseason development pay off will be Monday, September 1 at 8 p.m. in Kenan Stadium. Raiders releasing Christian Wilkins one year after signing him to $110 million contract amid injury drama

The Raiders are releasing standout defensive tackle Christian Wilkins in a shocking move after he completed just one year of the five-year, $110 million contract he signed in 2024, the team announced. The release is with the designation of terminated vested veteran, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported, and the Raiders are voiding the remaining $35.2 million off the guaranteed money that he has left on his contract. Wilkins filed a grievance with the NFLPA on Thursday over the decision. The decision was made due to the way Wilkins was treating the rehab for the foot injury that cost him all but five games last season. Las Vegas Raiders defensive tackle Christian Wilkins (94) warms up before an NFL preseason football game against the Minnesota Vikings, Saturday, Aug. 10, 2024, in Minneapolis. AP The Raiders and Wilkins had been at odds over whether or not to have surgery on the foot, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported. Las Vegas had been urging him to, while Wilkins had declined several opinions, according to the report. Wilkins is a six-year NFL pro and has played in 86 career games, which include 82 starts. He had recorded 372 combined tackles, 22.5 sacks and four forced fumbles, but failed to make the impact Las Vegas had hoped for due to his foot injury. Wilkins had been injured during a Week 5 loss to the Broncos. The defensive tackle had 11 solo tackles last season and two sacks. Las Vegas Raiders defensive tackle Christian Wilkins (94) looks on during the first half of an NFL preseason football game against the Dallas Cowboys, Saturday, Aug 17, 2024, in Las Vegas. AP Wilkins had been placed on the PUP list last Friday and it was unclear when he would be able to return. 'It's still uncertain,' Raiders head coach Pete Carroll said during a Tuesday press conference. 'We sort of have to wait it out.' Wilkins had been recently spotted wearing a walking boot, according to Pro Football Talk. He had been expected to be a big part of the Raiders' defensive scheme going into 2025 alongside defensive stalwart Maxx Crosby.
