Cops seize 365kg of meth worth RM13.14 million, suspected trafficker held

KANGAR: Police busted a major drug trafficking operation in Perlis following the seizure of 365kg of syabu (methamphetamines) worth RM13.14 million concealed in a car in Beseri, Padang Besar, yesterday.
A 40-year-old man, believed to be a trafficker, was arrested in the early morning raid.
Perlis police chief Datuk Muhammad Abdul Halim said the operation followed a tip-off, leading officers to a house in Kampung Belat Batu, Beseri, at 3.30am yesterday.
"Police detained a man driving a Proton Waja in the area. Interrogation led to the discovery of a Toyota Vios parked nearby, suspected to be linked to drug activities," he told a press conference at the state police headquarters here today.
A search of the vehicle found 17 tightly sewn sacks containing crystal meth, also known as syabu, with a street value of over RM13 million.
A preliminary investigation found the suspect had previously been involved in human trafficking activities, using illegal jungle routes in Padang Besar to smuggle undocumented migrants across the border.
"For this case, we believe the same routes were used to bring in the meth supply from a neighbouring country," he said.
The seized drugs were believed to have been stored temporarily in houses or vehicles in Perlis before being transported to destinations in the south, including the Klang Valley.
Halim said the suspect, who works as a heavy machinery driver, had five prior criminal records involving snatch theft, drug offences and human trafficking.
A drug test also returned positive for methamphetamine.
"The seized meth could supply up to 3.6 million drug users," he added.
Police are now tracking down another man believed to be the suspect's accomplice, who fled the scene during the operation.
The suspect has been remanded until June 7 to assist in investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the death penalty or life imprisonment upon conviction.

Kelantan police arrest couple, seize RM3.1 million in drugs

KOTA BHARU: Police have dismantled a drug trafficking syndicate following the arrest of a local couple last Friday. Authorities seized compressed ganja and ganja buds hidden in cashew nut packages, with the total haul valued at RM3.1 million. Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat stated that the suspects, aged 31 and 49, were apprehended while driving a Proton X70 along Jalan Padang Sembilan, Kuala Krai. A search of their vehicle uncovered 110 plastic packages containing 60.8 kilogrammes of ganja buds, 6.95 kilogrammes of compressed ganja, and 150 yaba pills. 'The drugs seized in Kuala Krai alone amounted to 67.75 kilogrammes of ganja and 15 grams of yaba pills, worth approximately RM2.37 million,' Mohd Yusoff said during a press conference at the Kelantan contingent police headquarters. A subsequent raid at the couple's home in Selising, Pasir Puteh, yielded an additional 22 kilogrammes of compressed ganja valued at RM775,000. Cash, necklaces, and jewellery were also confiscated, bringing the total seizure to RM3.1 million. Initial investigations revealed that the female suspect runs a processed chicken business, while her husband works as a p-hailing driver. The couple allegedly used their legitimate businesses as a cover for drug trafficking activities spanning over a year. 'This syndicate appears to have a wide network and may be supplying drugs overseas, given the high value of the seized cannabis buds,' Mohd Yusoff added. The male suspect tested positive for drugs, while the female tested negative. Both have prior narcotics-related records and have been remanded for seven days under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. Police are also probing possible links between this syndicate and an international drug network, including a recent seizure of 35.4 kilogrammes of yaba pills on June 27. Investigations remain ongoing. Earlier this month, police had dismantled another drug syndicate, arresting six individuals and seizing RM5.04 million worth of yaba pills in Pasir Mas and Tumpat. – Bernama

Kelantan police nab couple, seize RM3.1m worth of drugs

KOTA BHARU — Police have busted a drug trafficking syndicate, with the arrest of a local couple last Friday, believed to be actively trafficking compressed ganja and ganja buds concealed in cashew nut packages, with total seizures valued at RM3.1 million. Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said the suspects, aged 31 and 49, were detained around 4 pm while travelling in a Proton X70 along Jalan Padang Sembilan, Kuala Krai, after their vehicle was seen being driven suspiciously. He said that a subsequent inspection of the vehicle led to the discovery of 110 plastic packages, containing dried plant material believed to be ganja buds, weighing 60.8 kilogrammes, compressed ganja weighing 6.95 kilogrammes, and 150 yaba pills. 'The total drug haul in Kuala Krai alone amounted to 67.75 kilogrammes of ganja and 15 grams of yaba pills, with an estimated value of RM2.37 million,' he said, during a special press conference at the Kelantan contingent police headquarters, here, today. Following the arrest, police raided the couple's home in Selising, Pasir Puteh, on the same day, and seized an additional 22 kilogrammes of compressed ganja worth RM775,000. Cash, necklaces, and other jewellery were also seized during the raids at both locations, bringing the total value of the confiscated items to RM3.1 million. Mohd Yusoff said initial investigations found that the female suspect operates a processed chicken business, while her husband works as a p-hailing driver. The couple is believed to have been actively involved in drug trafficking for over a year, using their legitimate businesses as a front. 'We believe that this syndicate has an extensive network and serves as a major supplier, including to overseas markets, as the value of the seized cannabis buds is significantly higher than that of regular cannabis leaves,' he added. The male suspect tested positive for drugs, while the female tested negative. Both, however, have prior records related to narcotics offences, and they have been remanded for seven days, from July 11, to assist in investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,' he said. Meanwhile, Mohd Yusoff said that police have not ruled out a connection between the recently busted drug syndicate and an international network, possibly linked to the June 27 seizure of 35.4 kilogrammes of yaba pills, allegedly masterminded by a salon and restaurant owner. Investigations are ongoing, and efforts to track down remaining syndicate members continue. On July 3, Bernama reported that police had dismantled a drug syndicate and seized RM5.04 million worth of yaba pills, in six raids across Pasir Mas and Tumpat, arresting six local suspects, aged 25 to 39. — BERNAMA

Cops weed out married couple in drug bust, seize 90kg of ganja

KOTA BARU: Kelantan police have arrested a married couple and seized 90kg of compressed cannabis and cannabis buds worth RM3.1 million, which were packed in cashew nut packets in Kuala Krai and Pasir Puteh early yesterday morning. The suspects, aged 31 and 49, were arrested at 4am on Jalan Padang Sembilan, Kuala Krai, before a follow-up raid was conducted at their residence in Selising, Pasir Puteh, at 4pm. The female suspect, believed to be the mastermind behind the drug trafficking operation, runs a processed chicken business, while her husband works as a p-hailing driver. Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said the arrest was made when members of the Kuala Krai mobile patrol vehicle unit were on routine patrol and noticed a suspicious-looking Proton X70. He said police followed the vehicle and flagged it down, discovering a married couple inside. "A further inspection uncovered 110 plastic packets containing dried plant material believed to be cannabis buds, weighing 60.8kg. "Also found were compressed blocks of dried plant material, suspected to be cannabis, weighing 6.95kg, along with a plastic packet containing 150 yaba pills. "In total, the drugs seized in Kuala Krai amounted to 67.75kg of cannabis and 15g of yaba pills, valued at RM2.37 million," he told a press conference today. Following the seizure and arrest, Mohd Yusoff said police raided the couple's house in Pasir Puteh on the same day and discovered 22kg of compressed dried cannabis inside the residence, worth RM775,000. "We also seized cash, a necklace, and jewellery. "The total value of seizures from both locations is RM3.1 million. "Investigations revealed that the couple had been actively involved in drug trafficking for over a year, operating under the guise of a legitimate business. "We also believe the drug supply, especially cannabis buds, was intended for export. "Police do not rule out the possibility that the couple are the leaders of a larger syndicate, given the volume of supply and links to international distribution networks," he said. He said a urine test showed the male suspect tested positive for methamphetamine, while the female suspect tested negative. "The suspects have been remanded for seven days." He said the case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. He said they have records of prior drug offences.
