IDF : Drone Intercepted Over Dead Sea, Suspected to Have Originated from Yemen
Israeli media outlets reported on Thursday that the country's air defense systems intercepted a drone over the Dead Sea, amid growing concerns about long-range threats from Yemen.
According to Israeli Channel 13 and other Hebrew-language sources, the drone was detected approaching Israeli airspace from the southeast before being neutralized by the military. While the Israeli army has not officially confirmed the drone's origin, preliminary assessments suggest it may have been launched from Yemeni territory, possibly by Houthi forces.
The incident triggered air raid sirens in nearby areas, though no casualties or damage were reported. Military analysts noted that the drone's flight path and timing are consistent with previous Houthi attempts to target Israeli or allied assets in the region.
This comes amid heightened regional tensions following recent Israeli and U.S. strikes on Iranian-linked targets, with Yemen's Houthis declaring full support for Iran and threatening to resume attacks on Red Sea shipping and military vessels.
Israeli defense officials have reportedly increased surveillance and readiness along the southern and eastern fronts, warning that non-state actors like the Houthis could attempt to open new fronts in the ongoing conflict.
