Combs had pleaded not guilty to the charges and is currently seeking to be freed to house arrest through a $50 million bail package.
In a big development in the Sean 'Diddy' Combs sexual assault case, the rapper has been convicted of a prostitution-related offence. On Wednesday, the court announced the same but also acquitted Diddy of the sex trafficking and racketeering charges that could have put him in prison for life.
According to PTI, Combs was convicted of violating the federal Mann Act by flying individuals, including his girlfriends and paid male sex workers, across the country for sexual encounters.
However, the jury acquitted Combs of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking charges, which were based on claims that he used his wealth, influence, and intimidating physical presence to coerce his girlfriends into numerous drug-fueled sex marathons with the men.
For the unversed, Combs was arrested in September last year on charges that he coerced and abused women for years with the aid of a network of associates and employees. An indictment accuses him of silencing victims through blackmail and violence, including kidnapping, arson and physical beatings.
After the trial began earlier this year, several, including the rapper's former girlfriend, Cassie Ventura testified in the court and recalled disturbing incidents, including claims of the rapper raping her and abusing and assaulting his employees.
'I didn't get hit. I remember a vase hitting the wall. He was yelling at me and threw it at me. He told me that I wasn't going to leave him there. That I couldn't," she said, as per The Guardian. During the hearing, a couple of text messages were also shown to the jury, with Cassie writing to Diddy, 'I have a black eye and a fat lip. You are sick for thinking it's okay to do what you've done."
However, Combs has pleaded not guilty to the charges. He is now seeking to be freed to house arrest through a $50 million bail package.

WB CM writes to Amit Shah over spike in fake social media content, cybercrime

Kolkata: West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday wrote a letter to union home minister Amit Shah, raising her concern over the spike in provocative social media content and cybercrime. Mamata Banerjee had previously accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of spreading misinformation and fake videos, especially during the violence in Murshidabad (PTI) 'I write to convey my deep concern over an issue that is increasingly posing serious challenges to public tranquillity and the social fabric of our nation – the proliferation of provocative content on some sections of the social media platforms and the alarming rise in cybercrimes,' Banerjee wrote in the letter. Banerjee had previously accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of spreading misinformation and fake videos, especially during the violence in Murshidabad. 'Yesterday some news was spread that I have resigned. Police have registered an FIR. The jumla party only believes in divide-and-rule policy. Fake videos are being circulated every day. Earlier attempts were made to pass off videos of Gujarat riots as those from Murshidabad,' she had said on April 2. Police had suspended internet services in some parts of Murshidabad after violence broke out in West Bengal's Murshidabad district over the Waqf (Amendment) Act in April, to prevent the spread of misinformation. Videos of a mob attacking the block development office in Jalangi and ransacking the office of a railway gateman in Azimganj had surfaced on social media. Rioters were seen in video clips looting an outlet of a retail chain. Police had reportedly resorted to lathi-charge and tear gas after vehicles were torched, shops looted, and policemen attacked. Also Read: 3 killed, 18 cops injured in Murshidabad violence over Waqf Act; 118 held so far In the two-page letter, she said that recent 'incendiary narratives, misleading stories and fake videos' on social media have 'significantly contributed to aggravation of criminal tendencies among certain sections of society.' 'Such content not only spreads misinformation but also has the potential to inflame communal sentiments, incite violence, disrupt societal harmony and indulge in crime against women,' Banerjee added. Banerjee also highlighted the surge in cybercrime and said it is 'growing both in complexity and in its detrimental impact.' Also Read: In Murshidabad riots, rerun of an old story 'From financial frauds and identity theft to online harassment and defamation, cybercrimes are exacting a severe toll on individuals and institutions alike. The current legal framework and its enforcement require further strengthening to keep pace with the rapidly evolving digital ecosystem and the sophisticated methods employed by malicious actors,' she added. Banerjee urged the home minister to launch large-scale awareness campaigns to promote responsible digital behaviour, alongside sensitisation programmes, digital literacy campaigns, and community engagement initiatives. 'This is a collective challenge requiring urgent and coordinated action to safeguard public order, national unity, and the integrity of our democracy,' the Trinamool Congress posted on X.

What Fourth of July will look like for Sean ‘Diddy' Combs behind bars

Sean 'Diddy' Combs will be celebrating this Independence Day behind bars. The 55-year-old, who was once the king of lavish July 4 celebrations, will now be observing the day at Brooklyn's Metropolitan Detention Center as inmate #37452-054, according to a People report. File photo of Sean 'Diddy' Combs(AFP) The disgraced music mogul is currently awaiting sentencing after a federal jury convicted him on charges of prostitution on July 2. While he was acquitted on sex trafficking and racketeering charges, Combs was denied bail due to his violent history and international influence. Combs is currently being held at the MDC, where Luigi Mangione has also been incarcerated. Mangione is awaiting trial in the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. On the Fourth of July, the Finna Get Loose singer will begin the day at 6 am with a breakfast tray of cereal, fruit, milk, and breakfast cake. This is a far cry from Diddy's former rooftop brunches. The People report added that holiday recreational activities include spades, dominoes, basketball, and soccer in the yard, but no fireworks. Lunch and dinner will be monotonous too, with a meal of hot dogs, bean burgers, baked fish or black beans, and buttered noodles. What was Diddy accused of? Combs' conviction came after an eight-week trial where his ex-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, testified for four days. She detailed assault and psychological abuse by the rapper. Another accused, listed under the alias 'Jane', testified for six days, alleging that Diddy had assaulted her in June 2023, months after federal raids began. Judge Arun Subramanian described Combs' actions as 'horrible' and stressed that the rapper showed no signs of reform even when under scrutiny. He was, however, acquitted of serious charges of sex trafficking and racketeering. Legal limbo until sentencing Although the musician's legal team proposed a $1 million bond with travel restrictions and drug testing, the court rejected his bail. Federal prosecutors had argued his global reach and continued acts of violence made him a security risk; they said his release could jeopardize public safety, Associated Press reported. Sean 'Diddy' Combs faces up to 20 years in prison. He must now wait for his October sentencing. FAQs: Q: Why is Sean 'Diddy' Combs in jail?
