Maple Leafs Reveal Major Injury Update on Anthony Stolarz Entering Game 6

Yahoo16-05-2025
The Toronto Maple Leafs are just one game from being sent home for the season. Toronto will be looking to extend its second-round playoff series with the Florida Panthers in Game 6, but it'll have to win on the road to do so.
The Maple Leafs held a 2-0 series lead but have dropped three straight games to the defending Stanley Cup champions. One reason for this is that Toronto has been without starting goalie Anthony Stolarz since Game 1.

Stolarz suffered a scary injury on a collision with Panthers center Sam Bennett. Backup Joseph Woll has taken over in the net for the Maple Leafs, and Toronto is likely to rely on him for the remainder of the series.
Kristen Shilton of ESPN provided the latest update on Stolarz.
"To get back to Toronto for a Game 7, the Leafs will have to win in Florida, but they likely won't have starting goaltender Anthony Stolarz," Shilton said. "He has been sidelined since Game 1 of the series with an undisclosed injury. He resumed skating over the weekend and was on the ice for a 30-minute workout on Thursday, but Berube doubted Stolarz would join the Leafs in Florida for Game 6."

Without Stolarz, Woll is going to have to step up for the Maple Leafs. Woll gave up five goals on 25 shots before he was benched in Game 5, putting some doubt in his abilities entering the crucial Game 6 contest.

If Woll can step up again for this team, the Maple Leafs may have enough juice left to send things back to Toronto for Game 7.

Blue Jays Provide Injury Update to All-Star Pitcher Alek Manoah on Monday

Blue Jays Provide Injury Update to All-Star Pitcher Alek Manoah on Monday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. While the Toronto Blue Jays continue to defend their top spot in the AL East, they were given some positive news on former All-Star pitcher Alek Manoah. Advertisement After undergoing Tommy John surgery for an elbow injury he sustained in a start against the Chicago White Sox back in May of 2024, Blue Jays insider Keegan Matheson reported that the 27-year-old has a chance of drawing his first rehab start in the coming days. "Alek Manoah is throwing to live hitters again tomorrow in Florida, simulating two innings. [John] Schneider says that after tomorrow, he'll either throw one more live session to his own hitters or move into his first rehab game. From there, a Spring Training-style ramp-up," Matheson posted to X. If Alek Manoah is able to return to his All-Star potential that Toronto saw from him in 2022, his presence in the pitching staff would only be great for the Blue Jays moving forward. Advertisement It seems as if Manoah is on pace for the Blue Jays' initial return timetable for him that is set for August, barring any setbacks in the rehab process. Before going down with his elbow injury early last season, Manoah was on pace for another solid season. Through five starts in 2024, Manoah had a 1-2 record, 3.70 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, and tallied 26 strikeouts in 24.1 innings pitched. However his best season came in 2022, when he finished with a 16-7 record, 2.24 ERA, 0.99 WHIP, and had 180 strikeouts in 196.2 innings pitched. Earning an All-Star bid in just his second season in the league. Oilers' Darnell Nurse hints at pending trade away from Edmonton

Darnell Nurse has a way with memes. A report indicated that the Edmonton Oilers' veteran defenseman wasn't going to waive his no-trade clause if a deal came up. Nurse posted on his Instagram with the meme featuring the words, "Why you always lying?" MORE: Gavin McKenna makes his college hockey decision Advertisement This wouldn't have to mean a trade is imminent, but Nurse clearly didn't mind the world knowing that he'd consider waiving that no-trade clause. At 30 years old, Nurse has just experienced back-to-back losses in the Stanley Cup Finals. Maybe he wouldn't mind a fresh start. The 6-foot-4 lefty still gets the job done, coming off 28 assists in 76 games in 2024-25. He has 300 career points (81 goals, 219 assists) and likely still has a number of solid years ahead of him. Maybe it's time for other teams to pick up the phone and see if Nurse is truly available. MORE NHL NEWS:
