AIADMK's organisational secretary Anwhar Raajhaa joins DMK
The strongman from Ramanathapuram, who has been critical of AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami since the party revived poll ties with the BJP, said he was left with no option but to join the DMK to protect Tamil Nadu from various threats, including Hindi imposition and State autonomy, posed by the BJP-led government at the Centre.
Addressing reporters, Mr. Raajhaa said, 'The BJP's agenda is to destroy the AIADMK first and then fight against the DMK. Not even once has Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that Mr. Palaniswami would be the Chief Minister candidate. He had only said that NDA would form the government in Tamil Nadu.'

‘We are going to come for you': Rahul warns EC officials on alleged lapses
New Delhi: Accusing the Election Commission of India (ECI) of not doing its job, Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Thursday called it a 'serious issue', warning that poll panel officials can't get away with this as "we are going to come for you". Speaking on the possibility of boycotting Bihar Assembly elections over alleged lapses in Special Intensive Revision (SIR), Gandhi told reporters outside Parliament, 'Today they have made a statement, and this is complete nonsense.' Claiming to have caught 100 per cent cheating by the ECI in one seat in Karnataka while adding new voters aged 45, 50, and 60, Gandhi said, 'I want to give a message to the Election Commission that if you think you are going to get away with this or if your officials think that they are going to get away with this, then you are mistaken. We are going to come for you.' Gandhi said, now we have 100 per cent proof of EC allowing cheating at a seat in Karnataka by way of voter deletion and addition. Earlier, BJP leader Amit Malviya lashed out at INDIA bloc leaders for raising doubts over the SIR of electoral roll in Bihar, claiming its success and public response is a big blow to Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav. He said that INDIA bloc leaders' comments amount to conceding defeat before Assembly elections in Bihar. 'Tejashwi Yadav's idea of boycotting the elections proves that he has accepted that the voters of Bihar have completely rejected his campaign against SIR (Special Intensive Revision),' said Malviya, who is the BJP's IT cell chief. The BJP leader said on X, 'Earlier, Tejashwi boycotted the voter revision, thinking that the people of Bihar would stand with him. But the exact opposite happened -- the people are enthusiastically participating in this SIR festival of democracy.' More than 98 per cent of the voter revision work has already been completed. This is a big blow to Tejashwi and Rahul Gandhi, he said. All their hard work has gone to waste. Not a single voter from Bihar joined them in their campaign against SIR. This is a clear indication that Tejashwi and Rahul are hyping a baseless issue, Malviya said. There is a saying, 'As soon as the head is shaved, hail falls.' There are still two-three months left for the elections, but Tejashwi, sensing his slipping ground, has already started running away in desperation, said Malviya. "These failed sons of Lalu, fearing the electoral test, are now seen looking for a way to boycott," Malviya added.

Former India kabaddi team captain Deepak Hooda falls into Ganga in Haridwar, rescued by Uttarakhand Police
Deepak Hooda, a former captain of the Indian men's Kabaddi team and a BJP leader, fell into the Ganga river in Haridwar and was swept away by the high current before a team of the Uttarakhand Police rescued him Wednesday. Talking about the incident, Hooda said Thursday, 'I had been regularly visiting Haridwar. It was Sawan Shivratri yesterday, and I went there for a holy dip. While I was taking the dip, I slipped into a ditch. I could not balance myself and started drowning. Within a few seconds, the rescue team arrived and managed to pull me out of the water. I would like to thank the Uttarakhand Police.' 'It was scary. The water current was too fast. I could not balance myself. I tried to stay afloat, but it was tough. The rescuers saw me and reached me. Luckily, I could be saved. It is the blessings of people that have kept me alive. I am a good swimmer and have been going there since my childhood. But, it was due to the high water current that I could not balance myself', added Hooda, an Asian gold medallist and an Arjuna awardee. The Uttarakhand Police posted a video of Hooda's rescue on its social media handle. Officials said that during the ongoing Kanwar Yatra, incidents of pilgrims falling into the Ganga river are common. As a result, the Haridwar police have deployed several rescue teams at various ghats. The BJP fielded Hooda from the Meham constituency in the Rohtak district in the 2024 Haryana Assembly elections. In his first electoral battle, Hooda, however, finished a distant fourth and got only 8,929 votes. Congress candidate Balram Dangi won the seat, securing 56,865 votes. Hooda's wife Sawerty Boora is an international boxer who has also been honoured with the Arjuna Award.

Trinamool welcomes stay order on eviction of Bengali-speaking people from Delhi colony
Kolkata, July 24 (UNI) West Bengal ruling Trinamool Congress today welcomed the Patiala House Court's stay order on eviction of Bengali-speaking people from Delhi's Jai Hind Colony, saying it was a significant step forward for the ongoing fight for justice. "The eviction of Bengalis in Jai Hind Colony of Delhi's Vasant Kunj has been stayed by the Patiala House Court, marking a significant step forward in our ongoing fight for justice," TMC said in a statement. "This is a direct and decisive response to the continued targeting of Bengali-speaking citizens by the Modi-led government," the All India Trinamool Congress said in a statement. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee recently accused the BJP of unleashing 'linguistic terrorism' on Bengalis, asserting that the fight for identity and language would continue until the saffron party is defeated. She said the Bengali-speaking people have been harassed in the name of identifying illegal Bangladeshi immigrants in different parts of India, particularly in the BJP-led NDA-ruled states. " Under the leadership of Mamata Banerjee, we reaffirm our stand: every Bengali will be protected, and every act of injustice will be resisted. This is just the beginning. Our fight for dignity, recognition, and justice for Bengali-speaking Indians will continue with full force. Joy Bangla!" the TMC statement said after the Delhi court stayed eviction of people from Jai Hind Colony today. The TMC also said the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Bihar was a sinister attempt to disenfranchise millions, especially the poor and vulnerable people of the country. "This is NRC by stealth, a back door citizenship verification drive masquerading as voter list update. With the ECI acting as a willing enabler, the BJP is plotting to redraw the voter base in its favour," the TMC alleged. "We will oppose every attempt to undermine democracy and strip rightful Indian citizens of their voice and vote. The cornerstone of any functioning democracy is the conduct of free and fair elections," the party said. UNI PC PRS
