Imtiaz Ali Reveals REAL Reason Why Bobby Deol Was Removed From Jab We Met: 'Voh Wait Kar Raha Tha'
Imtiaz Ali said Bobby Deol was considering offers from other directors and making him wait.
Bobby Deol recently revealed he was 'really upset" after being abruptly removed from Jab We Met, despite initiating its early development with Kareena Kapoor Khan and director Imtiaz Ali. Amid this, an old interview of Imtiaz Ali is doing the rounds on social media. While speaking to The Lallantop, Imtiaz recalled why Bobby was left out of the film.
Imtiaz Ali said, 'Jab We Met ko Bobby Deol ke saath banane ka plan kar raha tha. Start kari picture but usko kuch aur offers mil rahe the, kuch bade directors ke saath. Toh voh wait kar raha tha. Keh raha tha ki iske baad kar lenge, uske baad kar lenge. Toh, karte karte ek aisa waqt aagaya jo mujhe laga ki ab yeh theek nahi lag raha. "
Imtiaz added, 'Bohot waqt beet chuka hai kyuki vaise bhi, 5 saal tak maine ek hi film ki hai. Uske baad bhi ek do saal tak main kuch nahi kar raha tha. Toh matlab financially and even in life, you want to do things. Toh maine bola Bobby yeh film nahi banate hain. Let us decide this today. Let us shake our hands ki film nahi banate kyuki humara ek doosre ke saath sahi nahi rahega."
Imtiaz's interview has resurfaced amid Bobby Deol's recent revelation of feeling hurt. Speaking to Instant Bollywood, Bobby shared how he first discovered the script while watching a rush print of Socha Na Tha, which Imtiaz was directing with Bobby's cousin Abhay Deol. Impressed, Bobby urged Imtiaz to write a film for him, which eventually evolved into Jab We Met. 'I tried really hard to make that film (Jab We Met) happen; I reached out to a lot of people," he said.
Bobby claimed that he played a major role in bringing the production house Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision on board. The producers, he said, were interested in working with him but hesitant about backing Imtiaz, who was still relatively new at the time. Bobby pushed for the collaboration and successfully convinced them to give the director a shot.
He also reached out to Kareena Kapoor Khan through a contact to offer her the lead role, but she initially declined. Preity Zinta was also approached, but turned it down, saying she would consider it at a later time. However, despite his involvement in setting the wheels in motion, Bobby was ultimately dropped from the project. Kareena changed her mind, and the role eventually went to Shahid Kapoor, forming a duo that would go on to create one of Bollywood's most cherished romantic films.

Starting in rural UP, Aamir Khan's family was far from Bollywood fame: Actor reveals ancestral profession
While Aamir Khan is widely known as one of Bollywood 's most celebrated actors, few are aware of his strong familial ties to rural Uttar Pradesh. Beyond the spotlight and cinema, his family's story begins in mango orchards and farming fields near Hardoi. Recently, Aamir shared insights into his family's deep-rooted connection with agriculture in UP. During a candid conversation with The Lallantop, the actor revealed that his ancestral land is located near Shahabad, a town close to Hardoi in UP. He confirmed that the property still legally belongs to him, linking him directly to a farming legacy that dates back generations. Family Land Bought to Preserve Legacy Aamir explained that years ago, his mother informed him about the family's intention to sell the land in Shahabad. The property, known for its mango orchards, had belonged to his grandfather. At the time, the land was to be sold outside the family. Aamir intervened and decided to buy it himself, expressing a strong desire to keep the property within the family line. He emphasized that the land held sentimental value and represented his family's heritage, which he wished to preserve. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Play War Thunder now for free War Thunder Play Now Undo Although he now owns the land, Aamir admitted he hasn't yet visited the site. He noted that official registration procedures were still pending, and legal formalities require his presence on location to complete the process. A Link to Farmer Ancestors Reflecting on his heritage, Aamir acknowledged that his family originally came from a farming background. He remarked that he might indeed be considered a farmer, considering the family's roots and ownership of mango orchards in Uttar Pradesh. Delving deeper into his family's history, Aamir recalled how his uncle, Nasir Hussain, was the first to move to Mumbai with dreams of becoming a writer. Despite the family's disapproval—since films were not seen in a positive light at the time—Nasir pursued his passion for storytelling. His talent was evident early on, having won a prize for a short story that was later adapted into the film Baharon Ke Sapne. From Rural Roots to Cinema Legacy Aamir recounted how the family, uncomfortable with Nasir's career choice, tried to dissuade him and even suggested he consult Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, a prominent figure in the Indian independence movement and India's first Minister of Education. Aamir Khan is the great-grandnephew of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, who had supported his uncle Nasir Hussain's aspirations. He advised him to follow his heart regardless of opposition, a piece of encouragement that stayed with the family. Despite initial struggles, Nasir eventually found a foothold in Mumbai's film industry, working as a ghostwriter and taking on various roles behind the scenes. Aamir highlighted the hardships Nasir faced, including financial instability and lack of support, but credited his perseverance in carving out a path that would later influence the next generation.

Aamir Khan became friends with Salman Khan while battling depression after his 2001 divorce: ‘I was judgemental towards him before that'
Aamir Khan hosted a screening of his new film, RS Prasanna's coming-of-age sports comedy Sitaare Zameen Par, in Mumbai, inviting his contemporaries Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan. Both of them showed up to support Aamir and his cast at the special event. Not only this, they were also present at a special screening of Loveyapa, the theatrical debut of Aamir's son Junaid Khan earlier this year. But Aamir admitted he, Salman, and Shah Rukh weren't the best of friends from the beginning. He claimed Salman and him became close when Aamir was going through depression after his separation from first wife Reena Dutta in 2001. Aamir was so depressed that he'd drink heavily every night back then in 2000-01. 'I used to sit alone and not meet anyone back then. Like Juhi (Chawla, co-star) visited me, Salman Khan also paid a visit. I don't remember how it happened, but he came to my home for a meal. We chatted for hours. I had a heart-to-heart conversation with him since I was going through depression then. He also shared a lot with me. That's when we began bonding as friends,' Aamir said in an interview with The Lallantop. Aamir Khan confessed when he first worked with Salman Khan in Rajkumar Santoshi's 1994 cult comedy Andaz Apna Apna, he had a gripe with his co-star. 'He used to never come to set on time and things wouldn't go as planned. So I thought maybe we can't be friends. But when I met him in 2001-02 and we got chatting, that's when I realized we're all humans and make mistakes. We try to live better lives, but we end up doing some wrong things, so one shouldn't be so judgemental. That's a learning I had then,' recalled Aamir. Aamir also said he finds the comparison between him, Aamir, and Shah Rukh quite natural. 'The comparison is legit. It happens in every field, whether it's cricket or films. People at the top are often compared to each other. I get why that happens. The people and media are curious,' added Aamir. 'It happened only once. Kirron (Rao, then-wife) shifted to some other building on Carter Road for three-four years because our home was under renovation. Jackie Shroff also used to stay in that building. One day, I saw a lot of crowd outside the building and thought finally, a crowd has come to see me. So I stepped down, was very happy, and met a few of them before I learnt they were there for Tiger Shroff (actor, Jackie's son),' said Aamir, laughing.

Aamir Khan recalls being invited to underworld party in Dubai, reveals he declined: ‘They offered me money'
Back in the 1980s and 1990s, the underworld had a strong hold over Bollywood. Big gangsters often tried to pull the strings in the film industry. Around this time, Aamir Khan became a star with his blockbuster film 'Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak', directed by his cousin Mansoor Khan in 1988. But with fame also came dark moments. Aamir recently shared how he once faced a frightening invitation from the underworld. Underworld people invited Aamir to a party In the late 1990s, Aamir was at the top of his game. Like many stars back then, he too got an invitation from the underworld to attend a party in the Middle East. In an interview with The Lallantop, Aamir shared, 'I'd said no to the invite to attend their party in the Middle East, probably Dubai. Some people from the underworld had visited me to invite me to the party.' He chose not to name anyone, saying, 'I don't take names, even of people from my industry. That's my nature.' They tried money and favours The underworld did not stop at just one visit. They kept trying to convince him. Aamir said, 'They tried a lot. They offered me money and offered to get any work done of my choosing. I still refused to come. They quickly changed their tone and said I'd have to come now because my presence had already been announced, and it was a prestige issue.' by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với sàn môi giới tin cậy IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo 'You can tie my hands and legs…' Aamir stood his ground, even when things turned serious. He recalled, 'That was our last meeting. I said, 'You've been meeting for a month and I've been telling you right from the start that I wouldn't come. You're very powerful so you can bash me up, hit me on the head, tie my hands and legs, and take me forcibly wherever you want, but I wouldn't come on my own.' So they stopped contacting me after that.' Fear for his family Even though he spoke boldly, Aamir admitted he was very scared at the time. What worried him most was the safety of his loved ones. 'I had two small kids then. My parents were very concerned. They said, 'What are you doing? They're very dangerous.' So I had said only one thing to them then, 'I want to live my life the way I want. I don't want to go there,'' Aamir shared. He added, 'I was more concerned for the ones close to me.' At that time, Aamir was married to Reena Dutta. They had tied the knot in 1986. The couple had two kids, Junaid, born in 1993, and Ira, born in 1997. They later divorced in 2002. This incident shows just how much Aamir valued his family's safety over everything else, even if it meant standing up to powerful people.
