Mara expels six students for bullying, adopts zero-tolerance policy
This follows his order for the immediate suspension and expulsion of six students from a Maktab Rendah Sains Mara (MRSM) in Melaka.
Asyraf Wajdi said he was alerted early on Saturday (July 26) to a viral incident involving Form Five students allegedly bullying a junior and requested a full report from Mara management.
"All six Form Five students involved in the bullying have been suspended and are recommended for expulsion. There is no need for any appeal," he wrote in a strongly worded Facebook post on Saturday.
Asyraf Wajdi also issued a stern reminder to Mara leadership not to entertain requests for leniency, adding he would not entertain personal appeals.
"I have made it clear to the Mara management not to entertain any appeals. There is no need for anyone to try to meet me to plead on their behalf," he added.
He stressed that Mara would not compromise on bullying, describing it as a serious violation of the values the institution aims to uphold.
"We have reminded everyone repeatedly that Mara will not tolerate bullying in any form. We want to produce future leaders with strong morals and good character, not individuals who destroy our values of religion and civilisation," he said.
Asyraf Wajdi added he is committed to making MRSM schools and all Mara educational institutions "bully-free zones".
"InsyaAllah, I am determined to make MRSM and all Mara education institutions bully-free zones," he said.
Mara has yet to reveal further details on the incident, but Asyraf Wajdi's firm stance reflects a growing zero-tolerance approach towards bullying in educational institutions under its purview.

Action taken against student who punched teacher in Kajang, says Education Minister
KUALA LUMPUR: The Education Ministry will not compromise with any misconduct involving school staff, including the recent incident of a student hitting a teacher in Kajang, Selangor. Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said she had taken note of the incident and was informed that it happened due to a misunderstanding between the students involved. "Quick action has been taken. Four students involved have been detained by the police to assist in the investigation. "The Education Ministry will not compromise with this misconduct and will take firm action based on the results of the police investigation," she said in a Facebook post on Friday (Aug 1). DPM Zahid hails Smart's three decades of service
KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has praised the Special Malaysia Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (Smart) for its outstanding service over the past 30 years, noting its role in enhancing Malaysia's reputation on the global stage. He said Smart has contributed to the safety of people in Malaysia and overseas through its participation in search and rescue operations as well as humanitarian missions. "From post-earthquake rescue missions in Türkiye and Nepal, to humanitarian operations during the tsunami tragedy in Aceh, and involvement in major flood relief work in Selangor, Pahang and Kelantan — Smart has always stood at the nation's frontlines in the most critical moments," he said. He said Smart has earned the trust of Russia to serve as a mentor to its search and rescue team, RUS-03, in preparation for INSARAG evaluation.
