The British and Irish Lions are facing mounting issues at tighthead ahead of their summer tour to Australia after Zander Fagerson withdrew from the squad.
The Scottish prop was as expected named in Andy Farrell's initial 38-man touring party announced last month, expected to compete with Ireland stalwart Tadhg Furlong and England's Will Stuart for a starting Test berth Down Under.

However, the Lions announced on Monday that Fagerson, 29, had been ruled out of the entire tour with a calf injury as the rest of the squad - without the players set to feature in next weekend's Premiership and URC finals - assembled in Dublin before travelling to Portugal for a six-day training camp.
The Glasgow front-rower has been replaced by Ireland and Connacht's Australian-born prop Finlay Bealham.
The Irish Independent reported over the weekend that concerns were growing over Lions veteran Furlong's availability for the tour after an injury-plagued season in which he suffered the recurrence of a calf problem that limited him to just one appearance off the bench in the Six Nations.
That could leave Bath star Stuart as the frontrunner for the No3 shirt for the first Test against the Wallabies in Brisbane on July 19.

He will be joined in Portugal by Jamie George, the England hooker and former captain who was among the most high-profile omissions from the original squad but had been expected to be added at a later date to join Dan Sheehan, Ronan Kelleher and Luke Cowan-Dickie.
Another new name linking up with the Lions in Portugal is Asher Opoku-Fordjour, the highly-rated young Sale Sharks tighthead who earned his first senior England cap against Japan in the autumn and will now hope to leave an impression on Farrell as his side prepare for their 1888 Cup clash with Argentina at the Aviva Stadium on June 20.
'It's tough on Zander to miss out so close to the Tour, but now Finlay gets an opportunity to come in and add to the group,' head coach Farrell said. 'This is unfortunately part and parcel of the game, so we always have to be prepared for that.
'But it's great to finally be at the stage where we can get onto the training ground and get to work with these players.
'Portugal will be really important for us as we look to get our house in order with only a few training sessions before we take on Argentina in the 1888 Cup in Dublin.'

Rangers draw with Motherwell in Scottish Premiership opener

Rangers drew Motherwell 1-1 in their first match of the Scottish Premiership Tavernier 14' ; Longelo 87' Rangers took an early lead as Joe Rothwell's corner was met by a firm header from club captain James Tavernier. Rangers controlled the remainder of the opening half, taking nine shots to Motherwell's two. However, Motherwell began the second-half on the front-foot, creating numerous chances including a rebounded shot which forced a last-ditch clearance from John Souttar. In spite of an energised second-half performance and several nervy moments from Rangers goalkeeper Jack Butland, Motherwell were seemed unable to find an equaliser. Then, in the final minutes of regulation, Emmanuel Longelo found the bottom corner with a left-footed finish having fallen over just seconds earlier. As a result, Russell Martin comes away from Fir Park with a disappointing draw in his first league match as Rangers manager. Martin will be hoping his team can improve on tonight's result as they face Czech side Viktoria Plzen on Tuesday in UEFA Champions League qualifying. 📸 Steve Welsh - 2025 Getty Images

The dream lives on for Australian swim champ

Cam McEvoy, now an Olympic and world champion, doesn't know when he'll swim again. "But I'm not stopping," McEvoy said. "Imagine telling myself in 2022 this is where I'd be - you couldn't write a script like that. "The dream lives on, right? My story just goes for a while." McEvoy almost quit the sport in 2022. After much soul-searching he continued, vowed to do things his way, and created his own revolutionary training regime. Now, he's the Olympic and world champion in the 50m freestyle. In Singapore on Saturday night, the 31-year-old became Australia's oldest gold medallist at a world championships - three weeks after becoming a dad for the first time. "Shoutout to (wife) Maddi at home, I couldn't be here without her; shoutout to Hartley, my three-week-old son," he said. "I'm going straight to the newborn trenches. "I'll start to do the night routines, help Maddi, and just enjoy the bubble, really. "It sounds cliche, but win or lose, I'm going home a winner. "It has given me a new light on the sport, on life, something new to navigate. "And I'll see where it takes me in the future." McEvoy's latest success came as Kaylee McKeown captured another gold on Saturday night, in the women's 200m backstroke. McKeown has now completed 100-200 backstroke golden doubles at her past two world championships, and also at last year's Olympics. "I wasn't feeling too great heading in, a bit of illness and stuff going around, dealing with a bit of a shoulder (injury)," said McKeown, who dislocated a shoulder leading into the titles. "I dug really deep." Australia's Lani Pallister (women's 800m freestyle) and Alexandria Perkins (women's 50m butterfly) also collected silver on Saturday night. Australia, with seven gold, four silver and six bronze medals, enter Sunday's final night of competition behind only the United States (seven, 11, seven) on the medal tally.

Daniel Farke ‘concerned' over Jayden Bogle hip injury as defender among four injured Leeds players

Four injuries hampered Daniel Farke's Leeds United selection for the 1-1 draw with Villarreal at Elland Road on Saturday and the German coach said he is concerned by Jayden Bogle in particular. Bogle, 25, has been struggling with a hip flexor injury was left out of the squad for the visit of the La Liga side. Farke said he is concerned as to whether the defender will recover for next weekend's AC Milan friendly, taking place at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin. Advertisement '(He had) problems with his hip flexor,' said Farke. 'That's a bit of a concern, if I'm honest, because I'm not sure if I will have him available for our final test. 'I hope to have him at least available then during the last week of preparation (before Everton) because he's an important player for us. We all know we need, in the offence, additions, but also see in the full-back positions, if there is an injury of a player like Jayden, we are also a bit thin.' Wingers Daniel James and Jack Harrison were also absent from the Villarreal draw. The former seems more likely to be available in Dublin next weekend, but the latter is awaiting the results of a scan on a groin injury. 'Daniel James had light problems during this week,' Farke said. 'I didn't want to risk anything, but I expect him also to be available for our last test against AC Milan. 'Jack had every training session and also all the games until after the training camp. Right now, he's struggling with a few adductor problems. He had a scan and now we wait for the outcome. He will also see a consultant on Monday. We hope it's just a question of a few days he will miss. 'I hope to also have him available for the Milan game, but we have to wait for the outcome.' Lucas Perri, who signed for the best part of £14million ($18.6m; €16m) from Lyon last month, was among the new faces supporters wanted to see in Saturday's game. However, the goalkeeper was not ready for his debut. The Brazilian stopper has had a disrupted start to life at Leeds, but is now back in training and could feature next weekend. 'He came with a light injury, so he was not involved in team training,' Farke said. 'So far, he had a few days of rehab and also building physical fitness because the last days were also a bit difficult for him. 'It's always busy with signings and travelling and whatever. Since yesterday, he's also back in specific goalkeeper training with our goalkeeper coach. 'Tomorrow, or later next week, he will join us in team training. Lucas, we believe in him, in his quality. He needs a bit of time on the training pitch to step up.' Leeds begin their Premier League season with a home match against Everton on August 18.
